Another damn silly advertisement!

Or it might just be me, being hopelessly out of touchconfused

That ad for Colgate, simpering women in white frocks (love the word, "frock"!)

The main one featured is the blonde one. Her hair has a good layered, razored looking cut, but why on earth is it combed over one eye, seemingly obscuring her vision on one side?

Am I missing something? Is she wearing a patch to help with astigmatism, and doesn't want anyone to notice?

Did the make up artists mess up her mascara on one side, and the studio time was so limited that they had no time to change it, so decided to improvise with the hair?

Was she brought up by an Old English Sheep Dog, and assumed that hair over the eyes is quite the done thing? (Although if that WAS the case, then surely she would also be sporting a gravy stained beard, and be prone to licking her own bottom, but perhaps they edited that out for the ad)

Hello Phoenix grin not seen this ad yet, but will report back.

rosesarered Mon 06-Feb-17 22:17:26

Do they have the ring of confidence? Or you may be too young to remember that ad.

phoenix Mon 06-Feb-17 22:24:49

Oh yes, remember the "ring of confidence", (well, just about?)

This ad is for the extra whitening stuff.

callgirl1 Mon 06-Feb-17 22:31:49

Haven`t seen it yet, but loving your description!

BlueBelle Mon 06-Feb-17 22:51:40

Haven't seen it either are you privileged

phoenix Mon 06-Feb-17 22:57:17

It's been on for ages, all seems to be in red and white, ends up with the sheep dog cross women sitting in one of those iconic egg chairs.

ninathenana Mon 06-Feb-17 23:09:36

I know the one phoenix it was on at least once tonight.
I agree re the hair but apart from that and the red and white chair I can't comment. I zone out when the ads are on.

Haven't seen it yet but can't wait to see an Old English Sheepdog advertising toothpaste lol.

Anya Tue 07-Feb-17 07:35:55

I'm sick of adverts that portray women as simpering idiots (even though some are!) .

There's one with two 'adult' bridesmaids giggling loudly and chatting and simpering as they walk up the aisle. Can't remember what it's advertising though.

glammanana Tue 07-Feb-17 07:36:05

Fabulous descriptions as always phoenix love it.(the description not the ad)

Crafting Tue 07-Feb-17 22:44:35

Haven't seen it yet but it can't be worse than the "go compare" one with the two people in the plane and the ghastly fellow with the moustache on top... ?

Crafting Tue 07-Feb-17 22:45:46

I always though that the ring of confidence had something to do with contraceptives blush

phoenix Wed 08-Feb-17 03:02:04

Thanks Glamma smile

MawBroon Wed 08-Feb-17 07:58:58

Anya I hope the as you were talking about was not the British Heart Foundation one where the adult bridesmaid has a heart attack and dies before her sister's wedding. That was very hard hitting.
I have just seen one for Belvita about a "jolly " train guard on a morning commuter train. It made me smile (as indeed the passengers on the train) . But I wonder if it was a Southern Rail service? Less amusing then.
Mind you there was the time a few months ago when the Virgin train guard sang got us to join in "Always Look on the Bright Side" as we pulled into Euston . smile

AlieOxon Wed 08-Feb-17 08:51:03

I've only seen the BHF one once and I f it comes on again I will hit the off button. It made me cry....my daughter died so suddenly

grannypiper Wed 08-Feb-17 08:57:15

Phoenix i love the word "frock" too, we should start a new trend, oh and can we add blouse to it as well grin

michellehargreaves Wed 08-Feb-17 09:56:38

Phoenix and grannypiper, we could wear petticoats under our frocks and blouses.

wilygran Wed 08-Feb-17 09:58:29

Steve Allen on LBC says he enjoys playing What's This Advert For? when watching ad breaks!

vampirequeen Wed 08-Feb-17 10:00:20

When I hear 'frock' I always think of a posh frock. The sort of frock you'd go to a wedding or special event in. So I have dresses and my posh frock although I tend to slop around in jeans/trousers and comfy topsgrin

wilygran Wed 08-Feb-17 10:01:30

On a sadder note I agree with AlieOxon. I feel the same about the heart advert about the teacher coming to fetch the boy from class because this happened to me when my father died. Even after almost 60 years it still hurts.

Mary3249 Wed 08-Feb-17 10:32:48

Anya - I think the ad you mean is for Go Compare, don't the whole wedding group end up singing?

How I detest those ads!

flaxwoven Wed 08-Feb-17 12:17:19

agree. Horrible ad.

Tizliz Wed 08-Feb-17 12:24:03

I just love having Sky - record everything and skip ads on playback

gillyknits Wed 08-Feb-17 12:44:11

Anyone else noticed that some toothpaste adverts (Sensodyn in particular) have a 'dentist' filmed off kilter so that the whole picture is at an angle? Is this the only way to make it interesting?
