Another damn silly advertisement!

Or it might just be me, being hopelessly out of touchconfused

That ad for Colgate, simpering women in white frocks (love the word, "frock"!)

The main one featured is the blonde one. Her hair has a good layered, razored looking cut, but why on earth is it combed over one eye, seemingly obscuring her vision on one side?

Am I missing something? Is she wearing a patch to help with astigmatism, and doesn't want anyone to notice?

Did the make up artists mess up her mascara on one side, and the studio time was so limited that they had no time to change it, so decided to improvise with the hair?

Was she brought up by an Old English Sheep Dog, and assumed that hair over the eyes is quite the done thing? (Although if that WAS the case, then surely she would also be sporting a gravy stained beard, and be prone to licking her own bottom, but perhaps they edited that out for the ad)

Have you noticed that the Colgate whitening ads always show women with bright red lipstick on, just for the contrast. I don't wear red lippy, neither do most of the men I know but I'm sure we'd all like whiter teeth. Would it still work for us. smile

Some ads drive me to distraction, Go Compare, Money Supermarket, toothpaste ones where they always use it because the Dentist does!! I do tend to ignore most of the ad breaks or go make a brew, go to the looblush, even pick my book up or go on Gransnet as now. only ones I really like are the ones featuring cats, less irritating!

The only comment asks who is the girl with the beautiful smile - her eyes are barely made up, whole focus on the mouth and I suspect that is the whole purpose. Good choice of model really - attractive but more girl-next-door than super-glam

Maybe less annoying than the pre Xmas perfume ads featuring skinny teenagers slinking about with their mouths hanging open in a vacant kind of way? Surely that age group would find it hard to afford those perfumes?

Think I must live on a different planet to the rest of you! I don't know half of these ads or perhaps I just zone them out.

I hate those ads that show women playing sports and such EVEN THOUGH they have a period! I find it hard to explain why. Guess it's something to with the fact that women have had to fight so hard to prove that we are not the weaker sex and now the advertisers seem to want to show us all that there is something debilitating about having periods. Rant over!

Toothpaste adverts in general are very annoying.

I also love listening to Steve Allen on LBC. Although then generally means I can't sleep as he only broadcasts from 4-7am.

I don't know some of these adverts. Perhaps they are only shown in certain areas. e.g. No Aldi in our area so no Aldi adverts shown on our ITV region.

I didn't think those ads about women being active during periods were around any more...confused

I haven't seen most of the ads mentioned on this thread either, I think it must be a regional thing (although I did see the BHF one last night - very hard-hitting }

Talking about "old fashioned" words, I had someone write the other day, that she thought I would be there with my "pinny" on, goodness I had forgotten that word, I always use an apron.

Most advertisements are pathetic, offensive, patronising or just plain stupid! One very good reason for recording programmes and fast forwarding through them!!

Perhaps the cameraman is bored to tears and falling asleep.?

The being active during periods ones have been overtaken by the being active in spite of incontinence ones. They don't seem to have noticed that by the time incontinence really kicks in you've probably got arthritis stopping you jumping around anyway.

I have just seen one for Belvita about a "jolly " train guard on a morning commuter train. It made me smile (as indeed the passengers on the train)

Morgana also re adverts for sanitary protection, why are we being asked to believe that women leak blue fluid at certain times of the month. I'm sure this must confuse some confused

MawBroon Wed 22-Feb-17 16:20:12

elisagrace it was this same ad which prompted me to start the "your best TV ads" thread. I enjoyed it and it made me smile! smile
