Watched the second episode last night and am enjoying it. Was annoyed when it ended so that's a good sign. I can see why people like to sit and watch a whole series.
Not looking good for the lawyer.....

I also thought it was a very powerful episode last night, but I thought the ending lacked a bit of credibility. Having assembled a large team and conducted an in depth investigation, would they then be allowed to just go away and forget it? It seemed a bit odd. Still, I will miss it; it has been so good.

Just saw last episode at breakfast! Very moving, compassionate, and appropriate ending to an excellent series. Lives destroyed, lives rebuilt, lives not wrecked again.

gulligranny Fri 10-Feb-17 14:06:37

I agree completely, Rinouchka - you've put it perfectly.
We've been very caught up in this drama, wonderful acting by all concerned. I hope there will be another series, Nicola Walker & Sanjeev Baskhar make an excellent team.

Didn't the ending make the police into judge and jury? I enjoyed the series but didn't think the ending very believable.

gillybob Fri 10-Feb-17 16:41:11

I thought the ending was very good chelseababy but I agree probably not what would happen in real life. The police and CPS would have probably took it all the way and ruined even more lives.

Loved this series. I was pleased with the ending. Couldn't see point of punishing them after such a long time. They had been punished enough in my view. Although I agree it wouldn't probably happen in real life I was pleased they weren't stuck in prison.

An excellent series, all the actors were so good and convincing in their roles. The two lead detectives were likeable and believable. Their home lives were satisfactorily ordinary, with the kind of life challenges most of us face, such a relief not to have very damaged police officers as so often is a plot device.
My daughter announced last week that the three suspects had killed each others abusers, so they all had cast iron alibi's. I didn't find the ending unacceptable. The lead detective had been told several times to put the case away, to be reviewed in a couple of years by the cold case team. As for them being 'judge and jury' that isn't unheard of. Their analysis was fair and accurate, these three victims had survived and all gone on to live productive lives in which they tried to help others. They didn't post a risk to anyone, would not offend again. The cost of a trial and imprisonment would be huge so the public interest as served by closing the case. I just hope the Nicola Walker character destroyed anything that would help the cold case team.
I was shouting at the tv for them to tell the gay male character because I feared suicide was possible for him.

I was so pleased Jason found someone to care about him. It was heart stopping as the train came towards the platform. I think everyone has agreed that this was the right decision to have made, even reviewers in the more right-leaning newspapers

Badenkate Sat 11-Feb-17 10:34:33

Also delighted to read that there will be a series 3?

Rigby46 Sat 11-Feb-17 10:35:52

I was distracted during the Jason platform scene by thinking 'where have I seen her ( the girlfriend) before?' By the time I'd remembered, the scene was over

tanith Sat 11-Feb-17 10:40:54

Rigby46 I was thinking that every time she came on screen, I seem to remember her as playing someone horrible but I'm blowed if I can remember where?

Luckygirl Sat 11-Feb-17 10:43:08

Last Tango in Halifax.

Alima Sat 11-Feb-17 10:47:15

One of the nuns or nurses in Call the Midwife? Though not horrible in that. Who was she in LTiH?

tanith Sat 11-Feb-17 10:49:39

Thanks for that I do now remember her in Call the Midwife, didn't watch Last Tango, but I remember her as being someone a bit weird being questioned by the police in something.. who knows grin

Rigby46 Sat 11-Feb-17 10:58:24

She was the very sweet nun who was raped and is now missing in mysterious circumstances from the Mother House having been sent there by the evil Suster Ursula shock

Luckygirl Sat 11-Feb-17 11:53:59

Sorry - I am confusing the issue (so what's new? grin - I thought Nicola Walker was the actor being discussed. Indeed the one in question was a nun in Call the Midwife.

Welshwife Sat 11-Feb-17 12:24:38

I was not surprised they decided to go no further with the investigation. As Nicola Walker said it would have been very difficult to find even circumstantial evidence to connect any of them to the killing they did - confession was their only hope. I thought it was the right thing after the dreadful crimes committed against the young people. I thought the reaction of Marion's sister when she realised the mother knew was so good and showed how that character had felt. The same as it all dawned on Colin's father.

Christinefrance Sat 11-Feb-17 12:30:14

I enjoyed it as well even the ending, hope they do another series. Yes Welsh wife I thought the reaction of the sister was good too.

Eloethan Tue 14-Feb-17 21:51:37

I really enjoyed this series.

But, if I understood the ending correctly, I wasn't really sure it was altogether plausible. As I understood it, each person single-handedly killed another victim's attacker. How could this have been accomplished, though? Wouldn't it be very difficult for a woman in particular to single-handedly kill a man and dispose of his body/make it look like suicide?

That didn't detract from my enjoyment, though, especially since it also raised some interesing ethical issues that were quite challenging to think about.

trisher Tue 14-Feb-17 22:04:05

I enjoyed it but think it relies on likeable characters and good actors to carry a weak and unlikely plot. Take the 'evidence' that the husband brought in to show his wife had been in Italy when the murder happened. They hung on to the lot and the box seemed just to be hanging around in the office. Aren't there some rules about bagging evidence and keeping it secure? She may have a restricted budget but she managed to charge all over the place. Couple of questions- "What is in Sunny's bag?" And is it some sort of an equality issue that he always carries a bag and she doesn't?

Luckygirl Tue 14-Feb-17 22:26:19

I like the "normality" of it - no overblown characters quipping their way through with one-liners. People in this series appear to hold recognisable conversations.

rosesarered Tue 14-Feb-17 23:43:02

Really good series, and justice was served by not charging the three of them.smile

POGS Wed 15-Feb-17 00:40:43

I thought it was as good as Series 1.

I can't believe they didn't bring into Series 2 what happened in Series 1 as that was so powerful and meaningful as to the relationship between the 3 female detectives.

Good stuff.

Iam64 Wed 15-Feb-17 09:06:06

Yes Luckygirl, I liked the 'normality' of it. The key detectives both have fairly ordinary lives, neither of them has a drink/drug problem and their teenage children are like other people's.

POGS Wed 15-Feb-17 10:43:18

Please ignore my post 00.40 .

I was thinking of 'No Ofence'. I am sure some of you may have worked that out. confused
