Watched the second episode last night and am enjoying it. Was annoyed when it ended so that's a good sign. I can see why people like to sit and watch a whole series.
Not looking good for the lawyer.....

Welshwife Fri 03-Feb-17 09:34:19

Is it the last episode next week ?

Christinefrance Fri 03-Feb-17 12:13:07

Yes last one next week. Hope they do another series.

Greyduster Fri 03-Feb-17 12:17:50

I've really enjoyed this, which, along with No Offence, has been one of the best crime dramas for ages. I shall be sorry when it finishes.

grandMattie Fri 03-Feb-17 12:18:43

loved the series. I like the way the characters have time to develop. It feels realistic, when they go chasing red herrings, when they try to prise information out of people, how the past catches up with the protagonists, etc. A thoroughly enjoyable viewing.
The Telegraph said it was the "best Detective/crime of the decade". I'm inclined to agree [though I enjoyed Happy Valley]

BlueBelle Fri 03-Feb-17 20:04:18

It's kinda Jimmy Saville isn't it ?

I am really enjoying this. All of the Actors are superb. The writing just flows naturally and believably. It is great that, like the last series, I have no ide whodunnit.

Alima Sat 04-Feb-17 12:05:21

I really enjoy this programme. Completely missed the first series, will have to get the DVD. The acting is superb, worth having to endure the adverts. For me, that really is saying something.

Badenkate Sat 04-Feb-17 12:22:50

DH says that going by the first series, it will be someone completely unexpected. I have my eye on his wife - she seems very shifty at times.

seacliff Sat 04-Feb-17 12:25:59

I have loved this so much, I too missed the first series, may get the DVD too.

I want to try and find all the old programmes with Nicola Walker in, I really like her as an actress.

Rinouchka Sat 04-Feb-17 13:44:51

In complete agreement re excellence of this series. I love Nicola Walker who must have the most illuminating smile on big or small screen. First noticed her in Spooks.

I think the murderer is the wife.

rosesarered Sat 04-Feb-17 13:50:03

Really good tv isn't it? One thing ( did I drop off at some point) the woman who went in the car with Nichola Walker to the house ( number 99 where all the ghastly gatherings took place years ago) and was herself a girl victim of them, where exactly did the police find her, and how?

Welshwife Sat 04-Feb-17 13:54:25

Rinouchka do you mean the policewoman who was married to the man they found - or the wife who is the nurse ?

Alima Sat 04-Feb-17 16:15:00

roses, David Walker used to do voluntary work in various places where children were. Ellen Price was assaulted by him when she was 12 and she led the police to no. 99.

rosesarered Sat 04-Feb-17 16:17:44

Yes Alima but the bit I must have missed was how she came into contact with the police now?How did the police find her?

Rinouchka Sat 04-Feb-17 17:14:30

I think the killer is the Detective Inspector, widow of the dead man. But I may be wrong.
They may introduce an additional character in the final episode, as they did Sara's dad in episode 5.
I do like the theme of the past coming back, like a regurgitation ( nasty image intended) to plague and seek to destroy lives rebuilt. I hope those rebuilt lives are not destroyed, in the end.
Anyhow, fine writing, directing and acting!
Will have to see final episode on replay as we are catching Saint Joan Live From The Donmar Thursday evening.

Rinouchka Sat 04-Feb-17 17:15:13

Watching, not catching.

gretel Sat 04-Feb-17 18:42:07

I love this programme. I also love the title music. Best programme on TV.

tidyskatemum Sat 04-Feb-17 19:20:23

It has been modelled on Scandi crime series like The Bridge and Trapped, right down to the opening music and visuals, with lots of threads developing simultaneously. Not that I'm carping - I love it. The acting is brilliant and I can't wait for the next episode every week. But I think Happy Valley is head and shoulders better.

Luckygirl Thu 09-Feb-17 21:57:32

Superb acting tonight.

tanith Thu 09-Feb-17 22:15:55

Brilliant series and a good ending the only thing I must of missed the story of the Dad of Nicola Walker can someone just tell me what that was about.

Luckygirl Thu 09-Feb-17 22:32:53

He had been chasing up the lover of his deceased wife and eventually found him and confronted him (behind the scenes - we did not see that). It seems that lover then wrote to him, enclosing a letter he had received from the wife, ending the affair and saying how much she loved the detective's Dad.

I am a bit in the dark as to whether the wife ever returned to her husband before she died. Perhaps someone can fill me in.

I thought it was very clever at the end of tonight's episode that we do not know what happened to the the central 3 characters. It looked as though they all came clean to their partners, but we do not know the outcome of that; and I read something into the police car whizzing by while the two detectives were talking in the cafe - were they off to a suicide? - or am I reading too much into that?

seacliff Thu 09-Feb-17 22:37:34

I thought it was fantastic tonight, good ending too. What great actors, I will really miss watching this each week.

tanith Thu 09-Feb-17 22:42:50

Thanks luckygirl I wondered that about the police car too great minds eh! grin

BlueBelle Thu 09-Feb-17 23:08:29

I was a bit disappointed in the ending not sure why I suppose because we went from one murder to three in minutes then all fizzled to nothing although I think it was the right decision for them to make
I didn't notice the police car perhaps that's leaving it open for the next series
I m sorry it's finished and yes great actors

I found this last episode incredibly powerful and a stark reminder, if we needed it, about what abuse does to children - it really really ruins lives. Those words at the end rang really true didn't they, about the anger especially - they must have originally been spoken by real abuse victims. It underlined what we've heard in the last two weeks about the abuse by Smyth and the publication of the Australian report as well. Great drama with a serious point to make
