If you are watching Missing what do you think of it . it's complicated isn't it? stories within stories and changing countries and changing years I m really having to keep on my toes to follow it I am enjoying it though One criticism is I wish the wife and girlfriend looked less alike I have to keep translate which is which it is getting better now I m more familiar with the story line but the first couple of episodes foxed me

Maybe Alice-who-is-really-Sophie made a hole at the back of the shed when she asked her brother to lock her in there the first time, in order to dispose of the dead body of the original Alice? Then "someone" dragged the original Alice in through the hole at the back after Alice/Sophie was locked in there on the 2nd night. That is why the body has Sam's DNA.

The pair of specs that Sophie-in-Switzerland has just thrown on the fire must belong to Lena, the 3rd girl on the rollercoaster.

I am getting so confused now

I do hope it has a proper ending - did the first series have a conclusion or is this a continuation with Sophie?

Welshwife Fri 11-Nov-16 13:44:34

The first two series were about a totally different case - young English boy missing from a northern French town - he disappeared while in a large crowd watching a football match on a large screen. Baptiste was the detective in charge. The first series ended without a prevalent solution. The second series picked that story up some 7/8 years later and showed what happened to the main characters.

Welshwife Fri 11-Nov-16 13:45:56

Prevalent us obviously the wrong 'correction' there --- should have been proper.

I think it's Sophie who came back and is now in Switzerland. Alice died and they(?) put her dead body in the shed. The little girl is either Sophie's or the 3 rd girl who is in the basement .

Jalima Fri 11-Nov-16 14:02:57

Is it the same girl playing supposed Alice and supposed Sophie?

Difficult to tell

Jalima Fri 11-Nov-16 14:07:43

A mother's instinct - 'that girl is not my Alice'

Rigby46 Fri 11-Nov-16 14:12:15

Second series - I missed that - When was it?

gettingonabit Fri 11-Nov-16 15:42:33

The first series was two years ago, rigby. It was good, and complex, but I found the ending a bit dull after all the twists and turns.

Welshwife Fri 11-Nov-16 16:16:48

Was about eighteen months after the first.

Mamie Fri 11-Nov-16 16:51:40

I don't think there was Welshwife? The first series ended with Olly's father wandering around Russia.

Mamie Fri 11-Nov-16 16:57:08

Are you thinking of The Returned with all the dead people wandering around Lake Annecy?

Welshwife Fri 11-Nov-16 17:27:21

No - did not see the Returned at all.
The second series of Missing took the story up about 8 years later and showed the father could not let go and was going back and staying at the same hotel whereas the mother had found a new relationship and wanted to get on with her life.
The first series ended with the rich man who had the house -he was building I think - in a remote place with a lake and it became clear he was implicated and it was all to do with a Paedophile ring. There would have been too many episodes and too long a story for it to have been one series. James Nesbit was roaming round still looking at the end of the second series.

Just had a look on google and it seems the other long story is now shown as one series - I thought that there was a break between some of the story - maybe not. There is also an American series called The Missing just to confused things.

Mamie Fri 11-Nov-16 17:45:35

I certainly watched it as one series of eight episodes, the same as this one.

grumppa Fri 11-Nov-16 18:24:42

The way things are going, the whole British Army Of the Rhine will end up implicated.. Gripping stuff, but more absurd by the week.

POGS Fri 11-Nov-16 19:10:29

smile

trisher Fri 11-Nov-16 19:12:34

Anyone else wonder about why the Brigadier couldn't tell his daughter about her birth when she wanted him to? Was it the beginning of his memory problems or is there some other reason? Another deep, dark secret?

Jalima Fri 11-Nov-16 19:39:51

grumppa it is so gripping but .....
I don't want to think how absurd it is wink

yes, that was odd trisher

Does anyone know - do army personnel stay in Germany permanently or do they go on eg a 3 year deployment?

Nelliemoser Fri 11-Nov-16 19:46:11

Hang on a minute. The burnt body in the shed was "A genetic daughter" of the father who was tested.
It may not have been the original "Alice". It might be another daughter of the father by a different mother, unless they tested both mothers of the of the original Alice they cannot be sure.
If she could only be identified by DNA she would not have been reconisable by features.
If the DNA matches it is possible for police to decide that is who it is and CBA to look no further.

Jalima that body was very "fresh" they would have just had to dig deep enough into the body to find some viable DNA.

What might make you think that I watch too many episodes of Silent Witness and Waking the Dead.

Jalima Fri 11-Nov-16 19:50:10

The body was burnt, depending on the degree and heat of the fire the possibility of any DNA being recoverable would be a variant.
With such a large amount of petrol being used the fire would have been intense. If it was reduced to very burnt bones then it may not always be possible to extract enough DNA to test.

Jalima Fri 11-Nov-16 19:51:19

Waking the Dead is so annoying.
I don't watch Silent Witness.

BlueBelle Fri 11-Nov-16 20:44:15

The picture of the butchers wife gagged was that her husband behind her I couldn't see it very well and I did wonder if it was the brig I wondered if they re had a fling just the way he spoke to her when he came to the shop

Jalima Fri 11-Nov-16 20:47:14

Oh, there's a thought!

But - I don't know a lot about sexual deviation hmm but if he is guilty would that fit in with other things he has possibly done?

I wondered if she knew things about him but was threatened by him as he is a senior rank?
Why did she leave the army and marry the butcher?
