Lucy Worsley

There is a new sebag montefiore book on the Romanovs reviewed today in the Sundays . Lucy W didn't really touch on the mad doings. I enjoyed the programmes especially seeing places I probably will not visit. I do get tired of historians back views going somewhere . There was one historian that made me wonder if the cameraman had a boot fetish as he concentrated all his skills on following her boots around.

That is her manner.She always reminds me of a school games captain. She is very knowledgeable.

I think she is appealing to older men . My brother of 70 thinks she is wonderful........her and Victoria Coren Mitchell. I have spoken to other similar men who think she is great.!!!!!Must be the hair clips.

I have found the programme very interesting. I didn't know a lot about Catherine the Great. Seem to remember learning about Peter the Great as I went to college in Deptford where he learned about ship building.

Haven't caught up with the one on the revolution this week. This is an area of history I am quite familiar with.

I do find her a bit twee to be honest.

I love the colours she wears. DH thinks she is sex on legs.

I prefer Amanda Vickery or Mary Beard. I just don't like Lucy Worsley's slightly flirtatious manner which distract and detract from what she's actually saying.

I keep missing it - when is it on?
It sounds like another nice programme to fall asleep through, must try and watch on catchup.

Does she dress up like a War and Peace heroine?

I really like Lucy Worsley and thoroughly enjoyed her short series about the Romanovs. Better than some miserable old fart Historians. And I can't stand Dan Snow.

She does have a thing about red though doesn't she?

Probab ly has in this series -I haven't seen it yet. But she has worn some lovely coloured coats and stuff in other programmes. I think she will be quite eccentric when she is old - a lovely character.

I still enjoy her historical programmes [but not the dancing etc ones].I love her clothes; I once bought some coloured leather gloves after she did a whole series wearing gloves of all different colours and I looked really stupid in them. We went to Bolsover Castle after seeing one of her programmes and the people there couldn't speak highly enough of her...she's obviously very nice to work for/with.The programmes I do struggle with these days [and it pains me to say this] are Michael Woods; I get to the end of them feeling very confused...they don't seem to flow well.

Yes! I remember the gloves especially the purple ones with a blue coat.

I think she has some of her clothes made. She has had some divine material.

I'm enjoying this series on the Romanovs and don't mind Lucy Worsley's presentation style. She obviously enjoys her subject and conveys that to the viewer. Love her bright clothes too but glad she hasn't felt the urge to dress up in costume too often.
I thought the episode on Peter the Great was the best so far.

I wanted my hair in her style, mine would only stay in place for about 10 minutes though. Now she has changed hers anyway. I do love her coats too.
Her voice, mannerisms and twee air can irritate but overall the programmes are good. I much prefer Mary Beard or the red haired Egyptologist.

I was confusing her with the other lady who wears outrageous outfits and has long mousy coloured hair.

I quite like her. She's quite batty for a younger woman and I like that. I don't like the daft "dressing up" stuff otherwise I find her enthusiastic and knowledgeable.

Interesting clothes too.

I saw her referred to in a review as 'fizzy swotty Lucy Worsley'. I thought it summed her up well. She's a cheery wee thing and can bring some dry topics to life.

I like Lucy W, too, and she certainly does like red clothes but, then, so do I! I watched last night's programme on the Romanovs and noticed particularly that her clothes change all the time. So, for example, we could be in a hall in the Winter Palace and she's wearing the red number with the black embroidery, then suddenly we're somewhere else in the Winter Palace, talking about the same subject, and she's wearing a different red dress with little holes in it. Why's that? Don't they employ continuity girls/boys any more?

Mary Beard can be very very rude and patronising in RL, I have gone off her.

Have you seen Mary Beard on Question Time? I have to hide behind the sofa when it's her turn to speak as she makes me cringe. I shouldn't say this but I wish she'd have her hair restyled, too.
