She is undoubtedly an accomplished historian, but this series on the Romanovs is trying my patience.
First of all, does she have to talk down to us as if we were children, does she have to say RomANov with the stress on the middle syllable, does she have to play act and does she have to pretend to be excited /surprised/ shocked at the action described in her faux naive way?
I am sure Sebag-Montefiore, or Dan Snow or even Scottish Neil Oliver could do it much better.

She makes me think of the sort of history teacher that brings history to life and makes it fun.

What an opportunity Hunt!
We used to frequent there, but have never stayed

I belonged to an Historic Dance Company and we had the chance to do some work with the public at Hampton Court. We stayed the night for an early start and woke up to the sight of Tudor chimneys through the bedroom window!. I sent Lucy some pictures of our visit after the wonderful programme re-creating the Christening of Edward. She sent me a lovely reply saying what fun we must have had. Sums her up really. I think she's a great presenter and very knowledgable.

I am sure Lucy and Joann are not like that at all smile

Yes, I have seen her on QT hmm She does seem to know everything when she pontificates speaks.

She was very rude and condescending to a friend of mine.
I don't care about her hair, she can wear it as she likes but it appears that she thinks that many people she speaks to are somehow less than her and she should remember that they are not, some are even as well-educated as she!! shock
Someone posted something interesting on FB today - Only look down on someone when you are helping them up or words to that effect.

Rant over!!

NotTooOld Mon 25-Jan-16 18:03:28

Have you seen Mary Beard on Question Time? I have to hide behind the sofa when it's her turn to speak as she makes me cringe. I shouldn't say this but I wish she'd have her hair restyled, too.

Jalima Mon 25-Jan-16 17:45:59

the red haired Egyptologist Yes, I really enjoy her programmes.

Mary Beard can be very very rude and patronising in RL, I have gone off her.

NotTooOld Mon 25-Jan-16 15:18:18

I like Lucy W, too, and she certainly does like red clothes but, then, so do I! I watched last night's programme on the Romanovs and noticed particularly that her clothes change all the time. So, for example, we could be in a hall in the Winter Palace and she's wearing the red number with the black embroidery, then suddenly we're somewhere else in the Winter Palace, talking about the same subject, and she's wearing a different red dress with little holes in it. Why's that? Don't they employ continuity girls/boys any more?

Jane10 Mon 25-Jan-16 14:21:23

I saw her referred to in a review as 'fizzy swotty Lucy Worsley'. I thought it summed her up well. She's a cheery wee thing and can bring some dry topics to life.

gettingonabit Mon 25-Jan-16 13:36:30

I quite like her. She's quite batty for a younger woman and I like that. I don't like the daft "dressing up" stuff otherwise I find her enthusiastic and knowledgeable.

Interesting clothes too.

ninathenana Mon 25-Jan-16 13:18:11

Ruth Goodman is who I was thinking of

ninathenana Mon 25-Jan-16 13:11:40

gringrin I was confusing her with the other lady who wears outrageous outfits and has long mousy coloured hair.
I said to myself if ww DH thinks she's sex on legs he should have gone to Specsavers !!

Elrel Mon 25-Jan-16 11:58:53

I wanted my hair in her style, mine would only stay in place for about 10 minutes though. Now she has changed hers anyway. I do love her coats too.
Her voice, mannerisms and twee air can irritate but overall the programmes are good. I much prefer Mary Beard or the red haired Egyptologist.

I'm enjoying this series on the Romanovs and don't mind Lucy Worsley's presentation style. She obviously enjoys her subject and conveys that to the viewer. Love her bright clothes too but glad she hasn't felt the urge to dress up in costume too often.
I thought the episode on Peter the Great was the best so far.

whitewave Sun 24-Jan-16 23:05:47

I think she has some of her clothes made. She has had some divine material.

Jalima Sun 24-Jan-16 23:03:32

Well, I have a couple of hats like the one she is wearing while she's sailing - wish I looked like that in mine hmm
Hers was probably more expensive, that's why!

whitewave Sun 24-Jan-16 23:01:31

Yes! I remember the gloves especially the purple ones with a blue coat.

Tegan Sun 24-Jan-16 22:58:04

I still enjoy her historical programmes [but not the dancing etc ones].I love her clothes; I once bought some coloured leather gloves after she did a whole series wearing gloves of all different colours and I looked really stupid in them. We went to Bolsover Castle after seeing one of her programmes and the people there couldn't speak highly enough of her...she's obviously very nice to work for/with.The programmes I do struggle with these days [and it pains me to say this] are Michael Woods; I get to the end of them feeling very confused...they don't seem to flow well.

Jalima Sun 24-Jan-16 22:56:57

Oh yes, a very fetching very clean peasant dress (trimmed with silver?)

whitewave Sun 24-Jan-16 22:47:30

Probab ly has in this series -I haven't seen it yet. But she has worn some lovely coloured coats and stuff in other programmes. I think she will be quite eccentric when she is old - a lovely character.

Jalima Sun 24-Jan-16 22:44:06

X posts grin

Jalima Sun 24-Jan-16 22:43:11

Got it!
Red dress in Red Square

gillybob Sun 24-Jan-16 22:40:03

I really like Lucy Worsley and thoroughly enjoyed her short series about the Romanovs. Better than some miserable old fart Historians. And I can't stand Dan Snow.

She does have a thing about red though doesn't she?

Jalima Sun 24-Jan-16 22:35:11

I keep missing it - when is it on?
It sounds like another nice programme to fall asleep through, must try and watch on catchup.

Does she dress up like a War and Peace heroine?

janeainsworth Sun 24-Jan-16 22:32:31

I prefer Amanda Vickery or Mary Beard. I just don't like Lucy Worsley's slightly flirtatious manner which distract and detract from what she's actually saying.
