Strike a light. Smouldering melodrama under the Cornish skies or what?
It is however totally obvious what our hero should do in order to save the family fortunes - become a trailblazer in the Cornish tourism industry and start a bed and breakfast.

DH and I are just about to watch it now smile

At long last-something worth watching on a Sunday evening.

I was dreading the BBC doing a Jamaica Inn with it but it was great.

I even forgot all about Robin Ellis blush

It helped that I'm madly in love with Aidan Turner anyway. Not sure how closely it followed the book, never having read the series. My only critiscism is that Elizabeth wasn't charismatic enough for someone to dream about whilst away fighting for years. My first reaction was 'wow; Ross Poldark as Heathcliffe', great idea. I stil want to live in Cornwall again and this isn't helping.

I think this is supposed to be closer to the book than the original tv series was. Apparently Winston Graham was upset at the original production.

I read that Robin Ellis has a cameo role in this one, I haven't noticed him yet.

Loved it. (I loved it first time around so was a bit worried it wouldn't be so good. )

I, too, am madly in love with Aidan Turner, even without his Irish accent, but Demelza is all wrong. She's too big and tall to have been mistaken for a child/urchin and looks too...knowing.

Anya Sun 08-Mar-15 22:34:53

Loved it!

gillybob Sun 08-Mar-15 22:36:57

Just brilliant !

absentgrandma Sun 08-Mar-15 22:37:28

Well....whoop-de-do! A plot you could follow, great scenery and no mumbling. Oh heck..... I forgot it was Indian Summers tonight as well, although couldn't watch it last week as sometimes we can't get ITV4 here, so I guess it's Poldark for the next few weeks now. Cornwall v Simla ..... quelle problem!!

merlotgran Sun 08-Mar-15 22:40:07

I'm watching Indian Summers on 4+1

A good night for quality drama.

rosequartz Sun 08-Mar-15 22:52:00

I did enjoy it and loved the scenery. The big house looked familiar -does anyone know where it is?

Never heard of Aidan Turner but I was very impressed!

Tegan Sun 08-Mar-15 23:14:45

He was in The Hobbit films, rose; that's when I fell in love with him. I was in two minds about watching Poldark but that swayed me. There aren't many things that I watch purely because a certain actor or actress is in them.

rosequartz Sun 08-Mar-15 23:17:14

His picture in the adverts for it did not do him justice!

ninathenana Sun 08-Mar-15 23:30:27

Great, apart from the violence. I know it was integral and there will be more, but I just can't watch people having their head stomped on.

ninathenana Sun 08-Mar-15 23:32:10

Won't stop me watching. I just shut me eyes for those bits smile

Tegan Sun 08-Mar-15 23:32:24

I had an inkling about this so I just looked it up as it dawned on me that he played Rossetti in the dramatisation about the Pre Raphaelites; I had thought that that was years ago so it couldn't be him but it is.

Tegan Sun 08-Mar-15 23:33:31

You'd better not watch Game of Thrones then, nina; headstomping is nothing comapred to what happens in that shock.

numberplease Mon 09-Mar-15 00:16:21

Loved it, have never seen Aidan Turner before, but definitely want to see him again!

ninathenana Mon 09-Mar-15 09:24:48

I have managed to avoid it so far Tegan and don't intend to start grin

Lona Mon 09-Mar-15 09:36:06

Tegan he also played a vampire in "Being Human", you can see why can't you?
Phew!

henetha Mon 09-Mar-15 09:59:48

I watched this with some trepidation, fearing it could never live up to the original Poldark. But it did! I thought it was great in every way.
And, I was mesmerised by Aiden Turner and went weak kneed with lust and longing! What a fantastic looking chap!
The whole cast were brilliant. I loved it.

Eloethan Mon 09-Mar-15 10:38:08

It was quite entertaining but a bit "over acted" I thought.

I really enjoyed the scenery though (and I don't mean Aiden Turner!) because we had our first family holiday in Botallack, near St Just where I think this is filmed. I love that part of the country. It has a very special atmosphere.

ginny Mon 09-Mar-15 10:47:41

I think I am going to like it.
