New Poldark, trailer
The new series starts on Sunday. I am looking forward to it, but the new actors will take some getting used to! I have the old set on DVD and have watched them recently, which will make it harder still.
Anyone going too view?

What was the actor in before? He looks familiar confused.

Ana Tue 03-Mar-15 11:17:46

Aidan Turner was the vampire in Being Human. I did find him very attractive in that, but not sure about Poldark.

I am unsure about the whole production. I heard it said the cast will not speak with Cornish accents , hope this isn't true . They have a hard act to follow after Robin Ellis and Anghard Rees

I think he was in the Hobbit films too.

I'm looking forward to it but a bit concerned about the music on the trailer on TV. I hope we don't get that music on the programme itself. Peaky Blinders had completely unsuitable music, I hope it won't become a trend.
I hope we get lots of Cornish scenery. I love a costume drama.

I'm very much looking forward to it. We weren't living in the UK when the original aired, so I missed it and will have nothing to compare the new series to. I loved all the books though.

I'm very worried about it!! Apparently, the new Ross's mum told him not to mess it up - I'm with her but it will be a hard task for him! sad

I love the music but I do agree that it wouldn't do as background music during the programme.

Maggiemaybe Tue 03-Mar-15 11:50:44

I can't agree about the music. I didn't think I'd like the soundtrack on Peaky Blinders, but loved it.

Thankfully, for some reason or another I did not pay much attention to the first series....if I was still at home it was probably considered too racy for me....so shall have an open mind.....my only real memory of it was the actor who played the badie........very charismatic but sadly died very young.

I love Cornish names and often tease DD2 that she was nearly called Demelza!

Looking forward to the new Poldark. I will try not to make comparisons but I suppose it's inevitable.

janerowena Tue 03-Mar-15 12:18:13

Ralph Bates. Yes, he was rather nice. I remember him better from Dear John.

Tegan Tue 03-Mar-15 13:03:44

Oh; was he the dishy dwarf that met a sticky end [?]. Trouble is, I'm planning a trip back to Cornwall this year and I bet the place will be more packed out than usual because of the series.

Maggiemaybe Tue 03-Mar-15 13:15:32

He he merlotgran - I managed to fight off the urge to call one of my DDs Demelza, but my DS is called Ross. The name was at the top of my baby boy list from the minute I was introduced to Captain Poldark in the first novel.... smile

Can't watch it. Just can't take the risk. It's taken me however many years to shake off the memory of that dreadful remake of the Forsyte Saga, and I've had to rewatch the original again several times to try to wipe out that memory shock

I can't risk spoiling my memory of Ross wink

jo1book Tue 03-Mar-15 13:25:57

Why do they keep remaking the same old stuff. There is a wealth of wonderful literature, ripe for dramatisation, out there without resorting to old rehashes.

bubbly1960 Tue 03-Mar-15 13:52:45

I really enjoyed the original Poldark. I promised myself that if I was lucky enough to have a little girl that I would call her Demelza. Six years later my firstborn was a girl, but I couldn't call her that because it did not fit our surname. However, she is 32 this year and called.....Morwenna! Always kept a eye out to warn off vicars, but she has a lovely normal husband now! Roll on watching Sundays episode on the I player, I'll be at the pictures watching Fifty Shades!!

hildajenniJ Tue 03-Mar-15 14:17:59

I never watched the original Poldark, so I am really looking forward to the new series. As I have nothing to compare it with it will be all new. I will watch this thread with interest to see how it compares!

KatyK Tue 03-Mar-15 16:23:17

I loved the original and will give this new one a go. Apparently Robin Ellis has a small part in it as The Reverend something or other smile

shysal Tue 03-Mar-15 16:36:05

That's interesting, KatyK. We shall have to see who spots him.

Tegan Tue 03-Mar-15 17:34:19

I think it's good that a new generation will discover Poldark and read the books. It is the guy from the Hobbit smile; he's very charismatic wink....

Ana Tue 03-Mar-15 17:38:41

Let's not mince words here, Tegan - he's very sexy as well! grin

Agus Tue 03-Mar-15 18:06:20

Steady Ana grin

I loved the original Poldark however I have just googled Aiden Turner! He says he has to do quite a bit of undressing in the series, oh well then, I suppose I should watch a bit of it blush

KatyK Tue 03-Mar-15 19:34:56

For anyone who is interested Robin Ellis and Aiden Turner will be on The One Show tomorrow.

Deedaa Tue 03-Mar-15 21:23:13

I find it hard to believe that it will be any better than the original but I'll give it a go. I still have awful memories of the Poldark series they did a few years ago using different actors. At least this one shouldn't be that bad!
