New Poldark, trailer
The new series starts on Sunday. I am looking forward to it, but the new actors will take some getting used to! I have the old set on DVD and have watched them recently, which will make it harder still.
Anyone going too view?

I remember that, Deeda. Wasn't it a sequel?

Didn't work for me either.

They messed the story about in the first episode of the original TV adaptation and I gave up in disgust! I've read all the books (9 I think) as they came out, at least 3 times so I know the stories pretty well. I do like the work of this latest script writer so I am more hopeful she will stick to the story, so I might give the first episode a go. Winstone Graham's characters and plots don't need any changes, if TV producers don't like things the way he wrote them, go and find some other author and stories.

If nothing else, it will be worth watching for the Cornish scenery [still my favourite place in the world].

I have recently read all 12 books, bought cheaply on Ebay. I think the author added 3 more volumes in later years, concluding with 'Bella Poldark'. I wonder whether the new TV series will cover the extra story lines.

As well as The One Show tonight, tomorrow's This Morning features Robin and Aiden.

Watching Robin Ellis and the new Ross on The One Show at the moment.
Looking forward to the series on Sunday.
Love the music - and loved it on Peaky Blinders also.

KatyK Wed 04-Mar-15 19:35:14

He looks good does Robin smile

merlotgran Wed 04-Mar-15 19:37:19

Yes. Robin Ellis has worn extremely well. blush

kittylester Wed 04-Mar-15 20:56:16

I quite agree merlot blush

What do you all think of the first episode? I actually enjoyed it, and didn't find myself making comparisons with the old series. I was never a great fan of Robin Ellis in the looks department, but Aidan is gorgeous!

Maggiemaybe Tue 10-Mar-15 10:59:07

Agreed, shysal! Is it actually legal for someone to be so handsome?! grin

I really enjoyed the first episode. This is going to be perfect Sunday viewing for me.

kittylester Tue 10-Mar-15 11:01:37

I loved Robin Ellis but I think I'll cope with watching this Ross, if I must! blush

The one very minor quibble I had is that I thought the actress playing Demelza was not quite right - Demelza was so young at the start of the books (13) and this actress looks a bit older than her 21 years IMHO. And I remember the character as being short, whereas the new Demelza is very tall (I could well be wrong here though, I'd better dig out the books again).

merlotgran Tue 10-Mar-15 11:24:04

Angharad Rees was my perfect Demelza. I'm sure I'll get used to this one but I agree that she's too tall and looks too old.

Anniebach Tue 10-Mar-15 11:31:38

I didn't enjoy it. See nothing vulnerable in Demelza, nothing which makes one want to protect her or cheer for her . The new Ross, next episode he will be skinny dipping. There is no sensitivity , just muscle and scowls .

Remakes never work and this remake seems it's going to be rather a lot of stripping off, scowling and shouting, rather shallow

Ana Tue 10-Mar-15 11:32:06

I agree, Maggiemaybe, I said something similar on this or the other thread. It's not really feasible that a child from such a poor family in those days would be such a strapping lass at 13!

I wonder if the programme-makers are trying to avoid giving the idea that Demelza was a 'child', although we know she was in the book.

Teetime Tue 10-Mar-15 13:23:00

I really enjoyed it - recorded it and watched it yesterday afternoon so I could stay awake. Loved Ross don't know about Demelza this one is prettier and hoydenish- couldn't stand Angharad Rees anyway all she ever said Oh Rasssss!! Ross is Ok - yummy in fact Robin Ellis was a bit sterile for me- as I've said before I like my men a bit muddy. Loved Phil Davies teeth!!

Maggiemaybe Tue 10-Mar-15 15:13:10

I bet that's it, Ana - the producers would probably be uncomfortable these days with the idea that Demelza is only 13, even though the love relationship in the book doesn't develop till she's several years older.

Anniebach, I for one have to say I wouldn't be averse to Aidan indulging in a spot of skinny dipping! [swoonemoticon]

KatyK Tue 10-Mar-15 20:06:31

Just watched it. Loved it smile

Igranma Thu 12-Mar-15 14:05:08

Really enjoyed it,but agree the actress who played Demelza is to old & strapping looking for the part.

Elegran Fri 13-Mar-15 09:52:42

"Meeting Demelza", a short story by Winston Graham "about an imagined encounter between the author and his most spirited literary creation" will be read at 11 am on Radio 4 Extra this morning.

Leticia Sun 15-Mar-15 22:16:50

I thought it got even better tonight. I was so sorry for Verity.

Leticia Sun 15-Mar-15 22:17:47

A long time to wait until next week for more. I shall have to read the books again.

hildajenniJ Sun 15-Mar-15 22:22:52

Didn't watch it tonight. I thought I'd wait and watch it tomorrow with DH. I'm looking forward to the next episode, as I didn't care the original series.

hildajenniJ Sun 15-Mar-15 22:24:13

Didn't see, why does it do this!

merlotgran Sun 15-Mar-15 22:25:36

Getting better and better. [phwoar emoticon]
