Pleased to see this back; love Michael Kitchen. Nice to have some good tele to look forward to. Wolf Hall starts this month - good cast so should live up to the hype. Hope it's reasonably faithful to the book.

I havwe never missed an episode of Foyles Kitchen- I am looking forward to watching something decent for a change. The icing on the cake is Broadchurch tomorrow and Silent Witness on Tuesday although the latter has not been as good for the last couple of series but I will give it a go. I am not exactly spoilt for choice.

Foyles war clashes with Last Tango I enjoy watching it but not enough to record it.

Love Foyles War - have even watched the repeats thats how addicted i am. Didnt think it would have a new series hooray something good to watch!!

Why are all the decent watchable programmes on at the same time ?
I don't have a recorder and watching on iplayer is not the same.

I will have to watch Last Tango In Halifax on iPlayer as we love Foyle's War.

After three weeks of utter rubbish on TV I suppose all the decent programmes are going to clash now.

They do this every January, don't they? And then again when the Autumn schedules are revealed...

Oh no. I record any series to fall back on when I want something decent to watch. I'm recording Last Tango at the moment so I suppose it's Foyle's War tonight.

Good actor. So understated I always think.

Yes, the clash of fine, new programmes after endless hours of banality is really annoying, but there you are, that's TV life. Anyway, the new Foyle was well up to speed and will have be watched again to work out all the details. What came across were the difficult times and dilemmas that that bankrupt post-war Labour government faced, together with how to deal with the former nazis at Nuremburg, without damaging post-war recovery plans. The absence of any morality in the world of business continues to be true today, as evidenced by the conduct of our present government. Nothing much changes.

I enjoyed it as ever. One thing though, what's happened to Sam? She was such a pretty girl but now she looks so gaunt and her hair is such an unconvincing colour. Probably accurate for the times portrayed but I did wonder if she's just lost too much weight. All v trivial but I always liked her character. Foyle looked exactly the same.

Bums. I thought the Foyles war was a repeat.

jane10 - I agree re Sam. My husband too said "Whatever has happened to Honeysuckle?"

SPOILER ALERT- I also thought that it was overplayed that she came over all feminist feisty and was actually quite horrible to her husband and then completely changed her tune! I think educated, intelligent women of that era, no matter how independent they were, would have put their unborn child first. I was getting annoyed with her for her clumsy stupidity clonking around that house and all but asking to be caught (I do get involved in the characters, don't I?)

I too was irritated by the feminist slant which I don't think was actually around in those days.

I was disappointed in Foyle. Unconvincing acting and too many of the characters were cliches.

Also isn't Foyle a bit old to be doing that job?

I quite enjoyed it after all the rubbish that's been on tv lately, but it was still very predictable.
What irritated me though [saddo alert] was that the mens' suit jackets and overcoats had creases down the back, from hanging in the wardrobe dept. without being pressed. The american business tycoon would not have worn a jacket in that state.

Shame they mentioned Iran! I thought it was called Persia back then? x
