Just caught up with this on I Player, I believe it was screened on Tuesday. Thought it was really gripping, can't wait for the next instalment . A different role for James Nesbitt played the distraught father very well.

PS I also find it annoying that the woman is so slim and manages to look good in whatever she wears. I sometimes get distracted trying to work out if she is wearing a bra!

Marelli Wed 10-Dec-14 18:05:31

What happened to the hotel-keeper's husband? At the beginning, I thought he had something to do with the little boy's disappearance. hmm
NotTooOld, I find myself doing that too! I love her clothes - (if I wore what she does, I'd look like an explosion in the ragbag) grin!

Kiora Wed 10-Dec-14 18:07:31

Yep here's another one who will be glad next week when the story comes together ( I hope) catbower says everything I am thinking.

granjura Wed 10-Dec-14 18:50:36

So confusing and yet compelling- won't be missing next Tuesday, that is for sure. We've both been on the edge of our settee...

nightowl Wed 10-Dec-14 18:56:06

I think the medal belonged to the hotel keeper's husband too merlot. In an earlier episode she was showing Tony the medals and said her husband gets one for every year he remains sober.

I don't mind that the mother looks good (if that's who we are talking about) because she's young. I am more in awe of the French detective's wife, who looks very elegant and I think is more mature. I wouldn't mind being married to the French detective either, and I don't say that about many men these days hmm

granjura Wed 10-Dec-14 19:00:19

Often wonder our the McCann's feel about this, and whether they are watching?

merlotgran Wed 10-Dec-14 20:11:42

Hopefully they're not watching it, granjura. I'm sure I wouldn't be able to.

Thanks, nightowl. I'd forgotten about the medals being given to the hotel keeper every year.

I did wonder about Jean Baptiste being involved but I jolly well hope not because I'm with you on that one and I'd like to move into his house!

nightowl Wed 10-Dec-14 20:43:56

Must admit merlot I hadnt remembered that detail about the medals but read it somewhere in a review. I have to also admit I'm watching each episode twice blush to try to make sense of it all and work out what's happening (and which year we are in). It doesn't hurt to keep looking at the lovely detective. I would massage his poor damaged leg anytime wink

I agree, his house is pretty special too! What a man!

nightowl Wed 10-Dec-14 20:45:55

And if it turns out he's involved that will just confirm my long held suspicion that I'm a lousy judge when it comes to men sad

NotTooOld Wed 10-Dec-14 22:51:02

I'm assuming you all mean the old and lame French detective? Isn't he called Julien? Anyway, I'm with you. I wouldn't mind finding him in my Christmas stocking, bad leg and all.....mmm

NotTooOld Wed 10-Dec-14 22:55:37

Just realised what I said about finding a bad leg in my stocking....well, it's late......

Marelli - yes, her clothes are great, aren't they? I liked the orange blouse she had on last night. Those racing back t-shirts she wears, though, I definitely could not get away with. Ha-ha.

Who would you go for then, ladies, James Nesbitt or the French detective. (I do hope he is not involved in the abduction of the boy, he's far too nice.)

Marelli Thu 11-Dec-14 08:44:23

I'm with you with having a liking for the French detective - he's not OLD, NotTooOld (well, he's Not Too Old tchgrin ) He looks sensitive and kind. I do like his wife's choice of dress, too, nightowl - she's very very elegant, isn't she?
Perhaps there'll be a twist a the end, whereby the French detective is 'swarmed' by his bees....tchshock!

GillT57 Thu 11-Dec-14 09:21:45

French detective for me, James Nesbitt doesnt do it for me. This is so well written, I have even found myself feeling sympathy for the young French man who is attracted to children, the one that Garrett (Ken Stott) was blackmailing. I had forgotten about the sobriety medals too, I suspect the mayor is deep in it somehow, Garrett was funding his campaign, and he gave the lovely Julien a lot of hassle about funding the investigation. Still haven't worked out what the investigative journalist is all about though, but it would appear he has been phone hacking, only way he could have known about James Nesbitt's confession about killing Garrett?

Lilygran Thu 11-Dec-14 10:24:41

Bring back Spirals! And why is Ripper Street now only available on some kind of download through Amazon?

NotTooOld Thu 11-Dec-14 16:42:41

Oh, I agree Marelli. Julien's definitely not too old. I'll have to take more notice of his wife's clothes.

merlotgran Tue 16-Dec-14 13:25:08

Looking forward to the conclusion tonight. There's talk of a second series so maybe they'll be able to prove Ollie's alive but not know where he is?

POGS Tue 16-Dec-14 13:37:30

Me too.

I just hope we get a conclusion or I might be tempted to throw something at the tele after The Missing. grin

POGS Tue 16-Dec-14 13:38:52

Whoops. Not The Missing. Remember Me. blush

tanith Tue 16-Dec-14 13:40:02

Oh no please I couldn't bear another series about the same thing... no end it now please..

Marelli Tue 16-Dec-14 17:32:54

Broadchurch starts again on 5th January! tchsmile

granjura Tue 16-Dec-14 21:34:48

Can't take much more- unbearable.

Ana Tue 16-Dec-14 21:44:28

Glad I didn't stick with this. Knowing there may be another series makes me even more glad...

granjura Tue 16-Dec-14 22:00:08

Unbearable, I feel sick.

tanith Tue 16-Dec-14 22:19:15

Wasn't there a song called "There are more questions than answers".

merlotgran Tue 16-Dec-14 22:28:05

The new series will no doubt be another series of flashbacks so just as confusing.

They left the Ian Garrett murder hanging in the air as well so I suppose that will crop up again.
