Just caught up with this on I Player, I believe it was screened on Tuesday. Thought it was really gripping, can't wait for the next instalment . A different role for James Nesbitt played the distraught father very well.

I thought that was concluded tonight, other than where the sons body was. confused

I thought thethe brief clip for another series looked as though it was going to be another story line, not a continuation of this one.

All I found confusing is 'Why did the journalist keep the token'.

merlot

Didn't the Garrett murder get put to bed because the retired French detective found the dad's shirt when Garrett's body was found and he gave the blooded shirt back to the father , in other words I know you killed Garrett but the paedophile wasn't worth you being charged for his murder.

As DH pointed out, if he'd gone out just to return a scarf to someone just down the road, got blind drunk, gone missing for about a day, come back stinking of booze (when he was on the wagon), blood on his clothes and upset - I might have noticed!

He pointed out stuff like that all the way through - most annoying he was - I don't think we'll watch the next series!

Feeling let down. I wanted an ending it didn't have to be a happy ending
( obviously there was never going to be) but any plausible ending would have done. Is it just me or is a lack of good endings scarcer. What start off promising seem to fall flat. I've stopped watching the homecoming because it ran out of steam. I was dissapointed with the recent michael palin ending the other night. Fingers crossed for a good ending in the fall on Thursday. Me thinks somone is watching to much T.V blush and should ...get a life..do something useful...read a good bookwink

I don't think the Garrett murder will be forgotten in the next series,he insisted he had not harmed the child but I think he was involved with disappearance of children.
The father has obviously not given up on his search as the trailer shows and looks to take him to many areas in Russia, keeping with the story line I wonder if the boy in the trailer recognised the drawing that Nesbitt showed to him when he was arrested.

I thought it was very sad that, in the end, Tony could not accept Ollie's death, and was back wandering the streets, still looking for him. Explained the title of the episode - "Till death".

I think to understand all of it, I would have to watch several episodes again. I hate the fact that the Beeb have done away with series catch-up.

I got the idea that the next series would be about a completely different case of a missing child. But would that allow for James Nesbitt to be in it?

papaoscar Wed 17-Dec-14 08:38:02

Glad I didn't watch it. There's enough real misery in the world without adding to it.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 17-Dec-14 08:42:00

Well, yes. That's very true. Was a bit much, to say the least, when the sad ending was closely followed by the real-life news. sad

What is it about this time of the year? "A vale of tears" is so often right.

Iam64 Wed 17-Dec-14 08:44:47

It was miserable papaoscar, but gripping all the same. It was clear 30 minutes in that the series couldn't end and there will be a sequel. I'll be watching I expect.

whenim64 Wed 17-Dec-14 09:44:11

I'll be watching, too. I wonder if the child had been drugged when he was put back in the boot of the car and his 'body' supposedly hidden. Still a few loose ends and the links to Russia made me think something bigger was going on - trafficking? It's annoying to be given a half-hearted ending, though.

soop Wed 17-Dec-14 13:32:33

I believe that Ollie is still alive. I really wanted to see him back with his family. A fairy tale ending that wasn't to be.

merlotgran Wed 17-Dec-14 13:37:42

The dodgy journalist found out Tony had murdered Ian Garrett by hacking into Emily's phone so there's a case for blackmail I expect.

Marelli Wed 17-Dec-14 13:43:56

soop, I believe he's still alive, too. I was wondering about the relevance of the drawing of the figure in the frost on the window? tchconfused

Eloethan Wed 17-Dec-14 13:58:53

I thought the ending was distressing. If the child had been knocked over and killed it would not have been so upsetting - but I suppose they had to explain why he was seen at the window of the house.

It was very well done but I found the ending unsatisfactory. Had the dad just become completely unbalanced or was the boy their son? Has it been left open to be continued in the next series - or is it going to be a completely different storyline?

I have to agree with papaoscar, it was depressing and there are probably enough depressing things going on without making them up.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 17-Dec-14 14:43:09

The father was totally out of his mind, which is why he couldn't accept the reality of Ollie's death.

I think it will be a completely new story.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 17-Dec-14 14:45:51

It was a good ending. So glad no trafficking was involved with Ollie. Would have been less distressing if he had been killed outright, but I suppose that wouldn't have tied in.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 17-Dec-14 14:56:04

definitely going to be a new case. (the video)

Sounds like Baptiste may be on it again, but would have to be new parents.

tanith Wed 17-Dec-14 15:15:44

Just watched that link and it does appear its about a different child.

I thought the drawing in the frost on the car was proof that Ollie was alive and indeed living in Russia. I think the guy that was supposed to get rid of Ollie and then found him alive , didn't kill him as he said but sold him on to someone else maybe in Russia. Who knows,I guess all will be revealed at some point not sure If I will watch though...

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 17-Dec-14 15:23:20

Tony drew the picture in the frost on the window. It was part of going out of his mind.

tanith Wed 17-Dec-14 15:44:15

oh my how did I miss that bit? thanks jinglbellsfrocks.. I think I am going a bit doolally...

Marelli Wed 17-Dec-14 15:57:04

Tony drew it, jings? Oh...confused
I don't think I want to watch any more series about missing children, though.

henetha Wed 17-Dec-14 16:10:22

I found the whole series totally engrossing and shall look forward to the new series. I was a bit confused once or twice, but that's me!

Lilygran Wed 17-Dec-14 16:38:02

Not just you, henetha!

soop Wed 17-Dec-14 16:55:18

thank you, jingle...I really did want it to be otherwise.

tanith Wed 17-Dec-14 17:14:33

jings I just had a quick whizz through the episode on iplayer and I couldn't find anywhere that actually showed Tony drew that picture in the frost... it was just on a pane of glass possibly a car window. I suppose eventually we'll see how it actually got there...
