Is anyone else in training for Wimbledon? I watched 2 whole hours of Roland Garros yesterday! grin

Silverfish Tue 24-Jun-14 21:33:06

Been watching tennis again, hope nobody makes a sarky remark, although I will never be a fan it is something to watch if theres nothing else on. If the girls put their balls up their knicker leg like one did yesterday where do the men put their balls. after all theres plenty of guys returning the spare ones.

Another Tsonga fan here. Couldn't bear to watch the Nadal match when he was doing so badly in the first set; I really thought his nerves had got the better of him. I think of the main players Djokovic was the one that seemed to sail through his first match.

NanKate Tue 24-Jun-14 22:43:03

Thank heavens Rafa won after a pretty tricky first set.

I know his rituals can annoy some people but he really is a lovely, well mannered young man and is gracious when he loses.

Lona Tue 24-Jun-14 22:46:26

Yes, he is NanKate, he seems like two different people, on the court so twitchy, and off the court so nice.

What a great match between Andrey Kuznetsov and David Ferrer. Kuznetsov epitomises intelligent playing - such smart tactics, no wonder he won even though he has low ranking. I'll look forward to watching him again.

Whenim64 you are right he is one to look out for but David Ferrer is one of my favourites some am feeling devastated for him but on the bright side Kuznetsov is very possibly exhausted and will soon go out and Ferrer is one less `name` for Andy to have to contend with

whenim64 Wed 25-Jun-14 18:16:13

Yes, I watched that match because of Ferrar. He's an amazing player. It's great that Wimbledon is getting so exciting at this early stage.

sparkygran Wed 25-Jun-14 18:32:44

You are spot on

Lona Wed 25-Jun-14 19:43:18

Wow! What an amazing, entertaining match between Djokovic and the 'other guy' Stepanek (sp).
Djokovic didn't really deserve to win imo, the other one played valiantly, it was a fantastic match.

whenim64 Wed 25-Jun-14 19:48:38

Fabulous match! Both players could equally have won by the end.

Tegan Wed 25-Jun-14 19:51:42

My fault for saying that Djokovic was having an easy passage through the tournament [sorry Novac] but what a match! Wondering what would have happened had Stepanek played Murray or Nadal? Rapidly losing interest in the football now, especially after the biting incident last night. Missed Tsonga today, though sad.

Is anyone else feeling furious with the BBC for their constant switching channels between BBC1 and BBC2 and as for "the red button" 2 days in a row a match that I was watching and enjoying was suddenly taken off and disappeared into the ether.

Why or why do they do this I can certainly understand that others who have no interest in the tennis are mad at the switching of their favourite programmes as am I. They have BBC3 and BBC4 channels which apparently nobody watches!!!! so why don`t they put Wimbeldon on there and everyone is happy. Feeling really grumpy with them

feetlebaum Fri 27-Jun-14 19:55:42

Hell no! Leave BBC4 alone - it's the best thing they have.

You can do what you like to BBC3... anyway, neither of them come on until 19:00...

whenim64 Sat 28-Jun-14 13:46:30

Ahhhh....visitors have gone home, dog walked and now asleep, cup of tea made and now I have the rest of the day to steep myself in Wimbledon, starting with Nadal and Kukushkin. Heaven! smile

whenim64 Sat 28-Jun-14 16:07:21

Brilliant player! Nadal makes me smile - he's added a new ritual to put some oomph into his aces - a sort of James Cagney grimace with top teeth showing....you dirty rat! Must say I do enjoy the change of tee shirt at the end - what a physique!

Lona Sat 28-Jun-14 16:11:46

He is a great player, and a lovely bloke........ but those rituals... no!
grin

Soutra Sat 28-Jun-14 16:12:32

Down girl!!grin

NanKate Mon 30-Jun-14 15:28:23

I am with you WhenIam64 - Nadal is the greatest and I want him for the Wimbledon Winner 2014 and onwards.

I know his rituals can be annoying but none of us are perfect.

Soutra Mon 30-Jun-14 15:51:06

Does anybody else think our Sue isn't looking as good as usual this year? The make up seems a lot thicker and she has got Judy Finnegan-type chubby jowls . (A bit like me!! ) Also the haircut really doesn't do her any favours.

annodomini Mon 30-Jun-14 16:30:52

She is, after all, 58. Perhaps she hasn't heard about BB cream or CC cream... Many other female celebs would have given in to the Botox and fillers régime at her age but she doesn't look as if she has done that.

Soutra Mon 30-Jun-14 17:31:53

Oh older than I thought then. I am doing her a disservice! Sorry Sue smile

Eloethan Mon 30-Jun-14 17:33:56

Why is it so important what Sue Barker looks like? Nobody can help getting older, and good for her if she hasn't join the botox/face lift/filler bandwagon.

With young women in their twenties (and younger) increasingly dissatisfied with their appearance and undergoing cosmetic procedures, I think it's a shame that this obsession with looks is being perpetuated by other women.

papaoscar Mon 30-Jun-14 18:06:34

Tennis is not really my sport but Wimbleon does maintain a sense of Britishness, with its green grass, whites, strawberries, Pymms and polished commentary from Sue. Unchanging in a changing world it has a comfort value way above its relevance to British tennis. I do miss some of the characters who used to confer an element of fun into the proceedings and I wish there were more British particants of quality. The only thing which jars for me is the sight of the court officials in all that 1920s garb. They look like something out of an old musical comedy gone wrong, and all the bending and stretching can make the poor official look ludicrous especially if they are physically in less than perfect shape.

sparkygran Mon 30-Jun-14 18:07:49

Hey leave Sue alone and go Andy go

annodomini Mon 30-Jun-14 19:26:07

well, just to get the gender balance right, may I remark that Boris Becker is looking decidedly middle-aged and portly?
