Is anyone else in training for Wimbledon? I watched 2 whole hours of Roland Garros yesterday! grin

whenim64 Sat 31-May-14 11:02:49

Oh yes! Haven't been able to watch the French Open whilst on childminding duties, but I'm getting geared up. I love the summer grass court tournaments, and Wimbledon is my favourite fortnight.

Soutra Sat 31-May-14 11:12:41

Training requires dedication and focus whenim 100% !!

Tegan Sat 31-May-14 11:24:41

Isn't it difficult playing on an orange court against someone wearing orange [just watching it now]?

whenim64 Sat 31-May-14 11:33:16

You're right, Soutra. My lot know that any childminding requests not agreed by now will not be sanctioned during Wimbledon! grin

ninathenana Sat 31-May-14 15:47:03

Yaaaaawn zzzzzzzzzzz

Silverfish Sat 31-May-14 15:52:33

yaaaaawn, I agree like watching paint dry.

TerriBull Sat 31-May-14 15:55:53

yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn double yawn.

KatyK Sat 31-May-14 17:01:39

I'm with the yawners. DH and I went to Wimbledon once, it was some sort of works thing for his company. Bored witless. Good job we're not all the same!

I suppose its a nice quiet game for doddery old folk in their 80s to watch of an afternoon, while sitting having their cup of tea but anyone with a spark of energy would be climbing the walls. Is it me or does it seem like when a player hits the ball, he/she could easily walk to the other side of the net and catch the same ball chuck it back and play by themselves or maybe ive been watching it slow motion. also can anyone tell me why they grunt and groan so much, it's not as if they're rushing around is it.

merlotgran Sat 31-May-14 21:50:01

Good wind up, Silverfish hmm

whenim64 Sat 31-May-14 21:51:20

Stand in front of Nadal's 135 mph aces and say that, Silverfish! grin

Silverfish Sat 31-May-14 21:56:50

Who is Nadal and his 135mph aches

Soutra Sat 31-May-14 22:44:01

Speak for yourself silverfish and stop trying to wind us up. And why on rarth would anybody want to climb a wall? Any personal objection to a cup of tea or indeed a Mojito of an afternoon? Slagging off a sport just because you don't like it is a bit mean-spirited

whenim64 Sat 31-May-14 22:47:46

Grand Slam champion from Spain, plays tennis with such ferocity he scorches the grass! grin

ginny Sat 31-May-14 23:32:06

Not interested. I doubt my tv will be on much over the next few months. Tennis , Commonwealth games and World cup all in a matter of weeks . Each to their own but I'm in the 'yawn' camp.

GrannyTwice Sun 01-Jun-14 06:56:51

Goodness me - if I saw a thread which clearly indicated a topic in which I hadn't the slightest interest or worse, found extremely tedious, I wouldn't bother to click on, let alone say mean-spirited things about it when other people clearly enjoy it - but then, I've got a life......

Tegan Sun 01-Jun-14 07:12:51

Did anyone see the programme about Lynn Barber where she said that, when she interviewed Nadal everyone told her how lovely he was but she didn't like him [and she said his English is much better than he makes out]. She did say she warmed to him later in the interview, but I was surprised by the comment. I must admit that Sharapovas screaming drives me bonkers angry.

ffinnochio Sun 01-Jun-14 07:38:44

Well said GrannyTwice. Quite agree.

NanKate Sun 01-Jun-14 07:39:08

Watching tennis is a great pleasure for me.

Rafa Nadal who is what I would call a true sportsman, never makes excuses when he loses. When on top form he is mesmerising. I sincerely hope he wins the French Open.

I'm not keen on cricket, but I certainly won't be slagging off the sport to cricket fans, I wouldn't be that unkind.

Anniebach Sun 01-Jun-14 09:17:50

Watching all the French, will watch Queens and Wimbledon . As for choosing to climb walls, as this not always been the favourite sport of those in jailsand asylums ?

Silverfish Sun 01-Jun-14 18:57:54

I try to have a balanced view about everything, so if im not interested in something I still have an opinion. As for tennis, we hardly have a choice as its on for weeks, almost as bad as football or any sport, it invades the news channels too, so its no good saying switch off as every channel has at least a summary of sport.

Penstemmon Sun 01-Jun-14 19:10:46

I am so glad I do not live in Wimbledon anymore..I hated the tennis season!

annodomini Sun 01-Jun-14 19:39:12

Silverfish, I have a plethora of channels that don't show Wimbledon, and I don't even have Sky. At the moment ITV3 and 4 are showing the French Open and I haven't heard you complaining about that!

Silverfish Sun 01-Jun-14 20:51:25

Please someone tell me of a news channel that does not have sport, I only have freeview which is useless I know. The other day I watched Sky news and it was almost all sport, BBC news had sport on it, Itv had sport, after that I gave up. I can see the point of dedicated sports channels that's fine for those who love it but why is it on every channel as well.

By the way can anyone tell me why, when there is a football match on tv those watching at home seem to wear their football shirts, I find this unbelievable who is going to know what you are wearing. Do the tennis fans wear a little white skirt/pants lol
