tbuconfused

I thought this was going to be cracking final episode to the series but there were more bodies than Midsomer Murders and now Morse is banged up because he's the only unbent copper on the force.

Where's Lewis when you need him?

Ana Sun 20-Apr-14 22:24:31

I'd have liked a more satisfactory ending too, merlot.

DH said 'Oh well, it's left the way open for the next series', but we'll have lost the immediacy of this episode and will have to have a lengthy recap to remind us what happened...hmm

Gally Sun 20-Apr-14 22:25:02

I think he's still at primary school!wink

Charleygirl Sun 20-Apr-14 22:40:13

I was very disappointed with the ending. I was also losing track of the number of names mentioned, bent or otherwise.

Eloethan Sun 20-Apr-14 23:33:12

I love Endeavour, but for the acting, not the plots. I thought the ending was rather unsatisfactory too.

DebnCreme Mon 21-Apr-14 00:19:15

Do you mean real life policing isn't like this? Must ask my daughter tbugrin

ninathenana Mon 21-Apr-14 08:47:12

I'm glad it wasn't just me that 'lost the plot' Charlygirl tbugrin Although Endeavour did give us a helpful recap.
What was his supposed motive for murder ?? I agree a bad ending.

I haven't watched any of this series.I enjoyed the Pilot episode and looked forward to the first series but found the plots so convoluted that I lost interest.I feel now after reading these comments I really haven't missed much.
Morse and Lewis were " right up my street".

DebnCreme Mon 21-Apr-14 09:44:47

Morse himself is good but they have a lot of work to bring the two aspects closer together. For one he will have to make more mistakes before getting the answer right.

annodomini Mon 21-Apr-14 10:22:29

I had trouble working out who was who among the corrupt officers and councillors last night. Too confusing for my addled brain? Who was it that he was supposed to have murdered? How is the love interest to be resolved? As we know, the later Morse is a bachelor with an unfortunate tendency to fall for ladies who turn out to be involved in the crime he's supposedly investigating.

Charleygirl Mon 21-Apr-14 10:59:28

annodomini at the end I did not have much of an idea either. I thought that it was my pea brain but now I do not think so. By the time the next series comes along I will have forgotten what went on with this one.

glammanana Mon 21-Apr-14 12:36:25

I've decided to watch it again on catch up and see if I can make any sense of it hmm I'm so confused as to who was killing who ?

annodomini Mon 21-Apr-14 12:50:38

If you do find out, glamma, would you like to explain it to us? tbugrin

GrandmaSandra Mon 21-Apr-14 12:54:51

I, too, was very confused. I didn'tknow who had died half the time and had no clue as to who the murderer was. Far too confusing, and a very silly ending! I'll never remember it by the time the next series starts.

Haven't watched this last one yet [unwatched things are piling up.] However, I have so much enjoyed all the other episodes in this series, just brilliant.I did [and do] like Morse, but feel Endeavor is the better series, the acting is better for one thing.Especially from 'Thursday' [Roger Hallam?] The period details are spot on, and as I know Oxford well, I like seeing which street they are in etc.Sean Rigby plays Morse just right, un-social, obsessive, rather sweet, that you can see how he would grow into age.A touch of arrogance too, with those who don't understand him and his thought patterns. The plots of all the Morse episodes are always rather incredible, Colin Dexter freely admits he knows little of police procedure, but the Endeavor writers obviously do know a little more.

Just watched on I player. I do wish that everything was not filmed in half light. If you can't see who has shot who it adds to the confusion. Mind you I really shouldn't have been watching it on such a sunny day! X

feetlebaum Mon 21-Apr-14 23:00:24

Roger Allam @rosesarered - a fine actor.

Mishap Tue 22-Apr-14 15:37:48

How I do agree bout the light - I cannot see who is doing what to whom! But the acting is good; and they have lined things up for another series rather neatly.

broomsticks Tue 22-Apr-14 16:00:05

I love Endeavour but it is a bit far-fetched, still worth it for the views of Oxford and the acting and the general pace. The actual story-line of the boys home and cover up is, sadly, quite realistic. I didn't really think all the murders were though ...
I liked the ending but it is going to be tricky remembering who did what to whom. Interesting to see how it works out though. Presumably he won't be banged up for long if he's got to become Chief Inspector grin

Bez Tue 22-Apr-14 16:08:46

The murdered man was a policeman strangled - by one of the corrupt officers - and he used Endeavour's new scarf to do the job. It was left by Endeavour in the car when he had an assignation with the officer who both Thursday and Endeavour thought was a straight cop. The scarf must be the evidence.

Mishap Tue 22-Apr-14 16:14:40

Gosh - someone's sharp-eyed!!

annodomini Tue 22-Apr-14 16:37:38

Bez - I deduce, with my CID hat on, that you are the scriptwriter for Endeavour!

Iam64 Tue 22-Apr-14 18:38:29

I haven't watched the final episode yet. From what I've been told, and read - I'd suggest we all keep up with the internet news on Operation Fernbridge. It sounds as though the Endeavour episode reflects the current investigation into historical sexual abuse of children - mostly boys it seems, by public figures (allegedly……. grin)

Bez Tue 22-Apr-14 20:33:04

I wish Anno wouldn't mind a few pay slips !!

I noticed early on in the episode that the new scarf was mentioned a few times - perhaps the girlfriend gave it to him - then I noticed it being picked up from the car seat and it did show a quick clip of it going round the victims neck.

Ana Tue 22-Apr-14 20:41:06

Yes, I saw that too. The scarf was obviously going to be significant - Morse was quite self-conscious about it and was obviously a bit embarassed when people kept asking him if it was new!
