Anyone watching this? The problem with watching The Bridge is that all other police dramas seem rubbish afterwards. I think this is the first one that can compare favourably in any way. I remember the first series but this is better.

Charleygirl Thu 13-Feb-14 16:08:32

I loved the first series and I recorded last night's first episode so I am looking forward to that.

durhamjen Thu 13-Feb-14 16:22:44

I was surprised it was only the second series. I thought I'd seen Lennie James in two series of it.

petra Thu 13-Feb-14 16:43:01

Loved it. I've noticed one lie she has told. Loved her attitude towards the noisy neighbour.

This is a good second series and now am wavering about whether she is such a good cop....... As for poor Jenny from Call the Midwife, she is an excellent actress.

Lona Sun 16-Feb-14 10:58:42

I caught up with this last night, and I thought it was excellent.
I've never been a fan of Keely Hawes but I thought she was really good in this.
Poor Jenny grin definitely a bit part!

I think it's repeated tonight; I'll make a point of watching it.I've never ben keen on Keely Hawes, either [not sure why though]. By the way, is anyone else finding Call the Midwife too sad to watch these days?

Lona Sun 16-Feb-14 12:14:32

Yes, CTM is sad but I like the odd weepy.

I am quite enjoying Call the Midwife - my midwife for our second child rode a bike and enjoyed a up of black tea with lemon! We also did the relaxation classes which were very new then, and our children were weighed in scales similar to those on the screen and we met in an old disused church hall - health & safety! have no idea how we managed, but we were fortunate to have decent housing because we lived in one of the Satellite towns built just after the war for the overspill from London. As a friend once remarked when she came to visit there was very little room to park a pram outside Sainsbury's (I believe one of the very first supermarkets to be built) - in those days we left our children in their prams outside the shop in the sure and certain knowledge they would be there when we came out - very few of us could drive, even if we owned a car, so we walked everywhere with the children in their prams, something I always enjoyed, and missed with the grand-children.

Thank you for the reminder that Line of Duty is being repeated tonight. I sat down last night to watch a recording of it but after 5 minutes all I got was "no signal" so I gave up.

merlotgran Sun 16-Feb-14 23:36:51

Just watched the repeat. Really good.

Charleygirl Mon 17-Feb-14 09:06:48

I am looking forward to Wednesday's episode.

Tegan Mon 17-Feb-14 11:20:28

In Cal the Midwife yesterday, Chummie was using an electric iron. Did people have electric irons back then? I'm sure we didn't have one.

Natsnan Mon 17-Feb-14 11:33:44

It was only set in the 1950's and yes, I remember my mother using an electric iron. We were quite civilised back then smile

Ana Mon 17-Feb-14 11:35:55

We certainly had one in the late 50s.

Marelli Mon 17-Feb-14 11:47:17

I remember my mum having one as well. However, I cannot remember plastic laundry baskets in the fifties - ours was a wicker one.

Natsnan Mon 17-Feb-14 11:51:57

Definately a wicker basket and wooden "dolly"clothes pegs.

Lona Fri 21-Feb-14 18:30:13

Did anyone see this weeks episode? I thought it was really good, Keeley Hawes is quite enigmatic.

Ana Fri 21-Feb-14 18:36:08

Oh yes, meant to say I'd watched it. I didn't see the first episode, but I did think Keeley Hawes was extremely good in her part.

Like others, I've never warmed to her as an actress in the past but she's obviously taken this role extremely seriously. She looks completely different, pale and puffy-faced, and has 'a past' which will be revealed in due course.

Lona Fri 21-Feb-14 18:38:10

Yes, she used to be slim didn't she? I almost think she looks in the early stages of pregnancy.

NanKate Fri 21-Feb-14 18:45:11

I only recorded this series by chance and so enjoyed it last night I watched both episodes back to back. Excellent smile

Bez Fri 21-Feb-14 19:16:02

We had an electric iron during the war but I remember if we had electric cuts my mother had kept her old iron one and used that but it was never really a success. Many of these war time, and shortly after, series have mistakes in them - used to really annoy me but now I just think that they have employed people too young to know and not careful enough to check the facts.

Eloethan Sat 22-Feb-14 00:19:56

I really enjoyed "Line of Duty" though I was a bit confused about what was going on. I thought Keeley Hawes was quite frightening.

Granart Sat 22-Feb-14 09:43:43

I loved the way Keeley turned the tables on her interrogators when she was arrested. It gets better and better!

Aka Sat 22-Feb-14 10:01:02

I'm lovin' it!
