Did anyone watch this yesterday afternoon [programme was called Incredible Animal Journeys I think]? These birds are so amazing; it followed 3 young birds travelling 3,000 miles from Martha's Vineyard where they were born to the palce where they would strengthen up for a couple of years before they flew back there to breed. It's on iplayer [but I warn you, it will make you cry..at least it did me].

We've been following a pair of ospreys raising chicks on the Dyfi Estuary in mid-wales. The Dyfi Osprey project have some amazing shots of osprey family life - it's been better than Eastenders, with brazen husseys, unfaithful partners, sibling disputes and so on. The chicks have now left home for Africa, preceded by mother, who left the father to finish raising them, and now he has followed them south. Well worth a look on Facebook. Fingers crossed that the parents return next year to raise another family!.

I'm so envious. Arent they wonderful birds. I'm doing another Hawk Walk soon; not sure what birds will be there. There was a Golden Eagle on the last one.

For the past two years I have been following the progress of the chicks born to the oldest breeding osprey in Britain, popularly known as the Lady. Last year and this year the chicks have been tagged for satellite tracking. Last year's disappeared somewhere either in Spain or North Africa; this year's, a female, is now believed to be in Southern Spain.

Supposedly only one in ten chicks make it sad....[hence my tears yesterday]. Watching them dive for fish is mind blowing.

I too have been following 'Lady' on the Scottishwildlifetrust.org site.. she is truly amazing having reared 60 odd chicks through her very long lifetime much to the amazement of all the experts.

She is the Osprey equivalent of Echo the Elephant!
