No, don't get your hopes up, ladies, it hasn't got him in it - it's a six-part prequel which starts tonight on BBC 4 starring Michele Riondino and might be worth a look...

I agree that the new Livia is not up to the job Just not sexy enough

Deedaa Sun 20-Oct-13 22:00:06

I wasn't impressed by the new Livia. She seemed at least 10 years younger for a start and the great thing about the original one was that she was not in the first flush of youth but still as sexy as hell. This one looks far too young to have ever wanted to adopt Francoise.

gracesmum ...as my Nana would have said...she's no better than she ought to be! Never did quite get the drift of that statement. grin

gracesmum Sun 20-Oct-13 11:53:01

Talk about putting outgrin

soop Sun 20-Oct-13 11:51:07

What on earth did Salvo find exciting about Angelina? wink shock Mr soop stayed wide-eyed and bushy tailed whenever she made a discreet entrance. grin

bluebell Sun 20-Oct-13 11:20:54

Oh dear - the young one has spoilt me....

whenim64 Sat 19-Oct-13 23:50:03

I'm a newer convert to Montalbano. Only saw a couple of episodes last time. I loved the humour and gorgeous setting.

gracesmum Sat 19-Oct-13 23:35:52

Oh Salvo - will you never learn?

Mishap Sat 19-Oct-13 23:14:57

The "new" Livia is a bit wooden. Mind you, after tonight's episode, she will have good reason to be a bit frosty - will she find out?

The Italians are really subtle about their "come-ons" aren't they?!

vegasmags Sat 19-Oct-13 19:37:22

Thank you gangy I am on full alert for 9 pm!

bluebell Sat 19-Oct-13 17:13:42

Thank you - been really busy this week and not read RT

gangy5 Sat 19-Oct-13 17:00:18

MONTALBANO ALERT Incase you don't spot it the old boy is back this evening. I can't believe our luck - I thought we'd have to wait a bit after the running of the young series.

I've been pleasantly surprised by the Young Montalbano and find him quite credible, including bandiness. I do so hope, though, that he's not a permanent replacement for the mature Salvo, any idea when he may be on screen again? Mind you, with Borgen starting again soon, I shall enjoy the autumn Saturday nights, too.

Hopefully they'll be repeated one day dustyangel but in the meantime there are always the books. I'm just rereading them for the third time smile

gangy5 Tue 08-Oct-13 20:18:33

Well put gracesmum - am of the same opinion!

gracesmum Tue 08-Oct-13 16:51:03

Dusty he's short, bald and has bandy legs!!! But somehow irresistible wink

dustyangel Tue 08-Oct-13 16:37:07

wink

soop Tue 08-Oct-13 15:54:47

dustyangel Gorgeous, isn't he...or I should say, aren't they. grin

dustyangel Tue 08-Oct-13 11:01:55

That should read The More Mature Montalbano.

dustyangel Tue 08-Oct-13 10:46:42

*you lot*,as Soop would say, have got me completely hooked on "The Young Montalbano". Fortunately DH is as well. I've never seen "The More Montalbano" so can only imagine it 20 years on. Does anyone know if it will be repeated?

Deedaa Mon 07-Oct-13 22:37:32

I take back my complaint about Catarella. He may have appeared 20 years too early but he is very funny smile

gangy5 Mon 30-Sept-13 17:16:03

Particularly enjoyed last Saturdays and now getting used to Montalbano the Younger.
I have to admit that when I'm tired I find the sub titles difficult to follow so have taken to recording it so that I can concentrate on it earlier in the day.

soop Sun 29-Sept-13 12:35:14

Sigh! Isn't Montalbano dishy...wink

gracesmum Sun 29-Sept-13 12:16:19

Oh I thought the young Mimi was just what the "mature" one might have been in his youth!! Fortunately he has improved with age (and become more attractive)
I am loving it - now we have il giovane Fazio to complete the trio and I am agog to see more! smile

Mamie Mon 23-Sept-13 08:27:43

Hmm, just seen number 3 (missed 1 and 2 because we were away) and am disappointed. Felt like it was introducing characters from the future all the way through, linked by a weak plot and a formula based entirely on the original. Quite like the young Salvo and Livia, but thought the young Mimi had nothing to do with the mature one.
Bit like Endeavour - nice idea, good acting, but oh so déjà vu.
