The Young Montalbano

I am reserving judgement, ana as much as I enjoyed "Endeavour" in its own right, for instance, he wasn't Morse (to me) . For me, the charm of Montalbano is that he is of a certain age, lacking the Italian "bella figura" and not a dashing young Latin lover .We can laugh with him and at, eg. Mimi's peccadilloes, but I wonder how I will feel if "young Montalbano" is too young and too gorgeous. Worth a look anyway!

Reserving judgement, too, although I shall have to watch it on "catch up".

Oh - so it's not him?? DH just told me that Montalbano was on tonight and I thought it was HIM - and it's not...... I'll watch it though - I'll just have to put up with it. It'll whet my appetite for the real man !

Well I am on holiday in French / Catalan telly land and the Radio Times didn't come before we left so I haven't set it up to record. But what I want to know is, is he bandy-legged too? I am relying on you GK.....

Just finished watching it - both DH and I enjoyed it.

Couldn't get into it, I'm afraid. I kept trying to look at his legs...

I thought the legs were reasonably bandy and he'd got quite a lot of the mannerisms. Caterella was completely wrong and doesn't appear till the second book so didn't even need to be in it.

And the scenery is wonderful of course.

Yes!! What a nice young man and completely credible - even with all that hair. I really liked it- even down to a younger Catarella. That's my Saturday evenings sorted for the next 6 weeks!

Not a bad start and our hero is reasonably convincing. We may even see him swimming sometime soon - once he discards that sheepskin coat. A welcome alternative to the hyped jingoism of the Last Night of the Proms!

The second half of Last Night has almost become a caricature of itself, hasn't it? Marin Alsop is a wonderful conductor but I fondly remember the likes of Andrew Davis and loved the Sea Shanties.

If I can't have old Montalbano then I will settle for watching the young one. No swimming yet but plenty of steps. Wondering when Livia will appear.

Just watched it and to my surprise I loved it. The young M is as fascinating as the older one. I too looked to see if the legs were bandy and they were!

I am smitten by Il giovane Montalbano. And he certainly has the mannerisms.

As a fan of the older Salvo, I wondered how much I would enjoy the new younger one, having just watched it tonight, I really enjoyed the new series, he is a delight, and I feel it can only get better!

Oh how frustrating. Here I am stuck with French or Catalan telly, the sun, the Mediterranean 10 metres away, all the anchovy paste I can eat and no Montelbano. Though Mr. Mamie can still do a mean crawl across the bay....

I loved it. I was getting serious withdrawal symptoms when Montalbano ended. I found what I missed most was the opening music and overhead views of Sicily though!

He is just as gorgeous as the older one! Much to my surprise I enjoyed it just as much. Didn't notice the legs - too busy looking at eyes and hair.

I was musing ... so how did he end up on his own as an adult? - the older Montalbano seems to have intermittent girlfriend(s)/slightly chequered love life. Now I'll find out!

Well, I think that the young Montalbano is as dishy as the mature Montalbano.
We thoroughly enjoyed the last series and have so far enjoyed the new. There is no "in yer face" violence or bad language. The scenery is beautiful. The language and characters, delightful. All good stuff.
