No, don't get your hopes up, ladies, it hasn't got him in it - it's a six-part prequel which starts tonight on BBC 4 starring Michele Riondino and might be worth a look...

wisewoman grin

Couldn't get the first episode on Catch-up, but managed to get last night's one and enjoyed it so much. Laughed out loud at Cattarella! Wasn't the scene where Salvo's father visited and left him wine rather poignant? We've all been there, haven't we...knowing when it's time to go, so we make all sorts of excuses wink!

Must be old age, but I find myself drifting off to sleep quite often around 9:30 pm most evenings if watching TV and it's fatal if watching Montalbano sad it's all so quick-fire if I miss 30 seconds of dialogue every so often I start losing the plot (not that unusual as it seems to be my default mode!).

I am enjoying this series though, almost as good as 'old' Montalbano!

Marelli Sun 15-Sept-13 17:16:35

Moomin, that's why I have to watch it on Catch-up! Find it impossible to watch TV until 11pm and Montalbano does need constant watching! Actually I fell asleep while watching it this afternoon too...but only for a minute or two blush!

O nod off during the evening now but thankfully woke up last night as the film Starter for Ten started; never got round to reading the book but I thoroughly enjoyed the film smile.

Does anyone else find these BBC four films with subtitles are a good way to relax. You can't really do anything else while reading subtitles - you can't even jump up and down or fidget in case you miss something. It has made me realise how often I watch tv while reading gransnet and other distractions at the same time.

Marelli Sun 15-Sept-13 18:00:52

I agree, wisewoman! I very rarely sit and watch a programme without laptop or my knitting on my knee (sometimes both). smile

Do you remember the days when watching tv was an activity in itself with the whole family gathered round. Now we seem to be so easily distracted and are constantly multitasking. Is it a sign that the programmes are not as good or is it just because in the early days tv was so exciting and new? Just musing about it.

Grannylin Sun 15-Sept-13 18:10:19

I watched Montalbano last night and also fell asleep for a brief period in the middle..too cosy and too much wine methinks wink

dustyangel Sun 15-Sept-13 18:16:16

I was annoyed earlier when I caught sight if this thread and realised that I'd forgotten to record it. I thought DH watched it under sufferance last week, he hadn't realised it was subtitles.
However he has come up trumps and sorted out how to get it on catch up through the computer. Says it's surprisingly hypnotic. smile

I went on a cruise around Sicily in the spring and have spent the new episodes going look we walked up / down / round there. It's a mishmash of places but I wanted to go back.

Deedaa Sun 22-Sept-13 21:52:04

I'm liking this more and more smile

Mishap Sun 22-Sept-13 22:38:00

It is lovely - I enjoy it loads. And the young guy is sufficiently bandy to be plausible!

Mamie Mon 23-Sept-13 08:27:43

Hmm, just seen number 3 (missed 1 and 2 because we were away) and am disappointed. Felt like it was introducing characters from the future all the way through, linked by a weak plot and a formula based entirely on the original. Quite like the young Salvo and Livia, but thought the young Mimi had nothing to do with the mature one.
Bit like Endeavour - nice idea, good acting, but oh so déjà vu.

gracesmum Sun 29-Sept-13 12:16:19

Oh I thought the young Mimi was just what the "mature" one might have been in his youth!! Fortunately he has improved with age (and become more attractive)
I am loving it - now we have il giovane Fazio to complete the trio and I am agog to see more! smile

soop Sun 29-Sept-13 12:35:14

Sigh! Isn't Montalbano dishy...wink

gangy5 Mon 30-Sept-13 17:16:03

Particularly enjoyed last Saturdays and now getting used to Montalbano the Younger.
I have to admit that when I'm tired I find the sub titles difficult to follow so have taken to recording it so that I can concentrate on it earlier in the day.

Deedaa Mon 07-Oct-13 22:37:32

I take back my complaint about Catarella. He may have appeared 20 years too early but he is very funny smile

dustyangel Tue 08-Oct-13 10:46:42

*you lot*,as Soop would say, have got me completely hooked on "The Young Montalbano". Fortunately DH is as well. I've never seen "The More Montalbano" so can only imagine it 20 years on. Does anyone know if it will be repeated?

dustyangel Tue 08-Oct-13 11:01:55

That should read The More Mature Montalbano.

soop Tue 08-Oct-13 15:54:47

dustyangel Gorgeous, isn't he...or I should say, aren't they. grin

dustyangel Tue 08-Oct-13 16:37:07

wink

gracesmum Tue 08-Oct-13 16:51:03

Dusty he's short, bald and has bandy legs!!! But somehow irresistible wink

gangy5 Tue 08-Oct-13 20:18:33

Well put gracesmum - am of the same opinion!

Deedaa Tue 08-Oct-13 22:05:22

Hopefully they'll be repeated one day dustyangel but in the meantime there are always the books. I'm just rereading them for the third time smile
