It certainly is a long way but worth it. We like Kirkcudbright. It's been, and to an extent remains, an artists town. I can see why artists are attracted there. There's something about the quality of the light.
Portpatrick is lovely too but a lot further on. We sometimes stay at a gorgeous hotel nearby and can see the lights of Northern Ireland from the bay window in the dining room.
It all feels a world apart from the rest of Scotland.
