Long line tunic

Has anyone got recommendations for where to shop for a tunic to wear with leggings please.

Tunics can be very clingy. I go for well cut jeans, chinos or linen trousers and a longer line shirt.

I also now think leggings aren't a good look, although used to wear them years ago with a tunic. I much prefer jeans & chinos in various colours. A recent buy are these trousers - really comfortable and go well with tunic or shorter top.

This will properly cause a few raised eyebrows but I seriously wonder how so many women want to wear leggings when really they should not. A straight cut pair of trousers looks so much better on many women., especially as you get older.

Comfort.

And personal choice.

That would be the case if they were the latest fashion but young people I know still wear jeans. It’s mainly us older ladies that have embraced the wearing of oh so comfortable leggings. And I also feel more comfortable wearing Tena lady with leggings blush

Yes definitely try Seasalt, also White Stuff and Apricot, both have nice tunics at quite reasonable prices

I agree with Maybee70 the fact that leggings stretch with you means the lbs can creep on unchecked if you’re not careful but they’re so comfy and easy to wash & dry. I have several pairs in black & navy & wear with tunics and dresses.

I have a drawer full of them ranging in size. They also var in size if bought on the internet. I bought some Love leggings in what I thought was my size and can’t get into them!

I did not mean formal trousers rather I should have said straight leg trousers (cotton or linen) or jeans and I totally agree that a tunic length is more flattering. If you are short like me a longer length blouse often works better as some of the longer tunics are too long. I guess I am in shock from what I saw yesterday, having to go into the town centre to the Council Offices for the first time in many months I saw some sights that I would rather not have. I really could not believe how some women were dressed, not just casual but scruffy, unkempt, and in a couple of cases verging on X-rated.

I agree with you on that point, I’ve noticed too that there do seem to be a lot of women around in town at the moment who look like they have given up caring, which is probably the impact of the pandemic, clothes can be flattering whatever size you are - the worst look of all is anything that’s two sizes to small for you.

I bought some beautiful Italian long line tunics on ebay...Average price 15/20pds...Also sell them on Etsy, would only do for the summer months

Yes, long tunic to knee length or a dress.. and leggings. M&S do a basic black and blue. I wear longer things as cellulite on the thighs can show through leggings!! And that is not a good look... I also find things at Seasalt. They often have a good sale in store and online and they have an outlet store on Ebay.. I've had a couple of good bargains there.

Straight leg trousers are formal, and not a modern shape though toscalily, and a tunic and leggings are comfortable, and flattering because you can only see the leggings from just above the knee down - leggings don’t look good if you wear them with a short top and you’re overweight, but that’s not what’s being discussed here. I don’t wear tunics (or leggings) myself, because I’m a cold being, and I like something I can put a jumper or cardigan over, so I’m a jeans girl - but I try to keep to the more modern shapes, as the cut of your jeans can age you too.

Sahara have beautiful tunics they are pricey so hold out for the sale.

Kate1949 Wed 11-May-22 13:15:52

Dress and leggings here too. If I wear a long tunic, I wear it with jeans.

Davida1968 Wed 11-May-22 13:12:17

Another vote for Seasalt tunics. (Also some of their dresses can work with leggings.) Keep an eye out for their Sales. I've bought their clothing for some time & I'm impressed by the quality.

Yes, Adini is another good brand for tunics. Our local garden centre sells Adini!

MayBee70 Wed 11-May-22 12:38:03

I can’t imagine a life pre leggings as I’ve lived in them for years now. The downside is that I used to control my weight by knowing I’d put on a few pounds because my jeans were tight. Now the leggings grow with me and before I know it I’ve gone up a size ( or two). Being 5.4 , pear shaped with fat legs I think that wearing them with Ugg boots in winter balances me out but I wear 3/4 leggings in summer with trainers.I used to live in Adini tunics because they’re cotton but since I’ve been buying my clothes online I find that Matalan sell really nice things at a good price and their delivery service is excellent. Of all the tunics I’ve got I virtually live in an Adini one which is one of the first ones I ever bought; I’ve got two of them and don’t know what I’ll do when they wear out. I feel very depressed if I try to get into any of my old jeans these days; they hardly go above my knees sad

Rather than wear a long line tunic, I wear a dress if I wear leggings, very forgiving!

jaylucy Wed 11-May-22 12:22:02

Bon Marche have a few tunics and I can recommend their harem trousers instead of leggings!
Whoever it was that reckoned a top and leggings shouldn't be worn if you are larger - well it's down to personal taste and if you don't like it, you don't have to wear it !
I prefer either harem trousers or wide legged ones for my thunder thighs as I have not found a pair of leggings that don't make me feel that I am wrapped in cling film yet!

I agree re Joe Browns. Some beauties there.

Jaxjacky Wed 11-May-22 12:04:19

I’ve used Cotton Traders, Joe Brown’s and Weird Fish, 5’11 size 16.

Thanks for your replies, I am feeling really frumpy at the moment. Legs are not slim. I am 5 foot 3 and a size 12/14.

I am also 5' 3 but a 16 in most clothes so at your clothing size you are not a large lady
I find more fitting clothes more slimming wearing baggy stuff just makes me look bigger. I can't wear leggings as my body may be a 16 but my legs especially at the bottom are in proportion to a size 8 lol

BigBertha1 Wed 11-May-22 11:20:11

I agree all the above are nice. I also have a few from Mud and Water and Lily and me. I think its a great look and comfortable for wearing round the house and garden too.
