A thread for those who are watching it.

Not sure how interested in it I will be.
Like I said on the not watching thread, it may depend how far some Countires I am interested in, get to, in the competition.

Forget England. Best team to watch. Irrespective of the time they play. Argentina by a country mile.

Lionel Messi scored 3 magical goals in their match against Algeria. He is now 38 and this is his six world cup.

A genius and a real football God.

Speaking of women’s participation the game I have just watched had a woman referee and very determined she was too.

Never have liked football even moreso nowadays with all the money involved. Older brother was a professional, played for his country as a youth and an adult.

Was that the South Africa game?

I think all the officials apart from the VAR were female 👍🏻

Yes it was and they were.
I was very pleased to see.

Sarnia are you aware that Emma Hayes is British and umm had a fair bit of success as Chelsea women's manager? That's why the USA women's team 'poached' her away to coach their national team.

I confess that I was not aware of her achievements. However, my 2 sons, 1 of my daughters and a grandson, all Chelsea supporters have let me know in no uncertain terms. I am suitably chastened. blush

You're forgiven! I too am a lifelong Chelsea supporter unlike my husband, sons and grandsons who support a different London club 🙄

You'll miss it! It's on Sunday at 2am I think 🤔

Wow.

Are the rest of the family into football?

Being an ex-Pat living in the States, I was dreading how the American coverage might be. Well, it has been absolutely superb. DH and I haven’t missed a match, and this particular World Cup tournament has been simply wonderful so far. All the fans of the world united and at peace together. Pity it couldn’t be like this all the time. And those 4 goals for England against Croatia. Wow! Just wow!

They say sport joins nations together.
I think it does.
Well it can do.

There should be a dedicated channel, I hate football, why should I miss my favourite programmes

JoeyJo Fri 19-Jun-26 10:17:29

I record every game so I can miss out all the pundit chat - I don't care, watch the fouls- don't like taking a dive and take a bathroom break when necessary. Loving wall to wall footie and watching players from my favourite team play in their national teams. So far they have done well. Sick of left hand legs, right hand pitches and water breaks in normal temperatures. And Messi was terrific. Loving life.

There is a thread which was started before this one] called "anyone not watching the football[something like that].
Some echo your sentiments.

The World Cup is being uplifting so far, I would say.

We record too.
I start watching pundits, then mentally switch off.

As others have said, drawback to this World Cup are the timings.
I would have watched a match last night but it started at 11pm. No thanks!

Scotland are playing Morocco at 11 tonight. I’ll watch the start at least. smile

Maremia Fri 19-Jun-26 14:03:53

Yes come on Scotland, they need luck and a fair wind tonight.

MT62 Fri 19-Jun-26 19:31:26

You wouldn’t think there was a World Cup on. Absolutely Zilch atmosphere over here. Hardly a flag up.

fancythat Fri 19-Jun-26 19:33:10

I expect the hospitality industry would have liked the venues to be different, so that the times of matches were quite different.

MT62 Fri 19-Jun-26 19:34:01

Scotland have the best fans. They certainly know how to celebrate.
My dad would have been so proud.
