(57 Posts)

This report lists 149 local authority areas were rape gangs operate/d

There are going to be new and thorough investigations, with no stone left unturned.

Let’s hope so…

Finally.

It’s taken a long time, this has been ignored for decades.

ViceVersa Tue 16-Jun-26 19:56:23

It's horrific. The testimonies from the victims are harrowing beyond belief.

Aveline Tue 16-Jun-26 20:03:35

Thank God they've got round to this. I look forward to hearing about long sentences and strong deterrence.

CatsWhiskas Tue 16-Jun-26 20:11:54

Is this about Operation Beaconport?

Finally and not before time.

Thank you for starting this thread GrannyGravy13 but I'm astounded that such an important topic has generated less posts than advice about duvets.
I know from other threads many members are now wary of posting on N&P but for this to drift quietly down off the main active suggestions list is puzzling.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 17-Jun-26 08:21:46

I think it’s easier to brush these awful crimes and coverups under the carpet, than face up to the reality of the horrors these children and young women endured.

I saw an interview with one of the survivors earlier in the week, it was heartbreaking.

There hasn't been much about what it actually is in the mainstream news. I suspect people don't know what it's all about, which is why I posted the link to the NCA article.

I have a family member who works for NCA. I have a small
insight into how committed they are. But I have little faith in local police forces carrying through information/ instructions from the NCA.

It has been on BBC and SKY, I can only assume that other things are more important 🤷‍♀️

It’s probably the usual PC stuff and people dare not say anything for fear of being called racist.

It’s massive and these gangs of Indian/Pakistani descent have carried out their vile attacks on white British girls all over the country. It’s still going on too.

Thank you for the link CatsWhiskas.

The whole issue is entirely sickening and beyond shocking. What can the survivors of this horror, so brave in sharing dreadful details of the suffering they have endured, feel when it seems they are again of less importance, virtually ignored.

It's really hard to believe the lack of support.

I don't watch TV and I know quite a few other people who don't. It's far better to go back to the source of the story anyway and find out what is actually happening.

That's an assumption. It would be better to read the article from the NCA and wait to find out any conclusions before jumping to your own conclusions.

So do I (have a family member who works for the NCA and specifically on grooming gangs).

I’d missed this GrannyGravy, thanks for the post. I’ll read up. I’ve some experience of child sexual abuse and exploitation by these gangs. I can onky stress that my experience did not involve any of the staff from various agencies fearing being accused of racism during investigations. The ethnicity and backgrounds of the abusers was discussed without fear or favour

It's partly to stop these kind of allegations from escalating that the government instructed the NCA to take action along with the police forces themselves.

While I accept that some of these gang members are groups of Asians, I hope this thread doesn't turn into an immigrant bashing exercise. I feel that the subject is far too serious for that.

These young children have not only been groomed and sexually abused, their situation has not been taken seriously enough by the police and other agencies. The damage done to these children by these gangs cannot be underestimated and the failure of the authorities to tackle this problem effectively, up until now, is disgraceful.

I only hope that this latest report does not turn out to be too little too late and that, for once, lessons will have been learned.

Aveline Wed 17-Jun-26 09:19:21

It is already too little and too late for hundreds of young girls.

Aveline

You're absolutely right Aveline
And while there's such obfuscation still around the issue of race shutting down open and vigorous discussion it will continue.

It is not about race or ethnicity. If the evidence is there, prosecute, bring the disgusting perpetrators to justice no matter what.

Which is why it's so scandalous that the previous Conservative governments took so little action. Thank goodness for Labour and Yvette Cooper (when she was Home Secretary), who instigated the current operation.

I agree with you. Obfuscation is an issue. If the evidence is there, prosecute. If it isn't there, people should keep their mouths shut. I seem to remember that Louise Casey said something similar.

It's not a report - yet. It's an operation to force police forces to revisit past cases and to examine them in new ways in line with national protocols.

OK thanks for correcting me.
