Trump and the death penalty

From The Mirror this morning.

These people are already on death row, how do you all feel about the below:-

“US Army prepares for first military executions in 50 years awaiting Trump order
The US Army is drawing up plans to carry out four military executions of death row inmates for the first time in more than 50 years, pending approval from President Donald Trump.

The US Army is preparing to conduct four executions should President Donald Trump issue the command, according to an internal planning document seen by ABC News.

The plan, if implemented, would represent the first occasion the military has executed convicted American prisoners in more than half a century. "Operation Resolute Justice" instructs Army officials to liaise with the Federal Bureau of Prisons to move condemned inmates from the US Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, to the federal execution facility in Terre Haute, Indiana.“

Personally, I simply don’t agree with the death penalty, however horrific the crime, it doesn’t act as a deterrent and I, imo, just find this act quite ironic, committing a murder to punish a murderer for breaking the law by murdering someone? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I do believe some crimes mean that individual should never be free to walk and work alongside the rest of society.

What do you fine folk think and feel about this?

Perhaps a better option is to give these criminals the opportunity to choose between whole life imprisonment, with some form of work being done or the means to take their own lives?

Good, if they are willing and able to fight it State by State.

Welcome to the twenty first century, Alabama: better late than never .
Is it true that there had been problems accessing the products necessary as the manufacturer did not wish to be associated with this?
I have a vague memory of reading this some time ago.

I’m opposed to the death penalty simply because it’s barbaric and I don’t support the state killing people.

I'm opposed to it too Iam - same reasons.

We all agree that life imprisonment should mean life, and penalties for murderers should be harsh.
But killing them in the name of justice is wrong, just plain wrong.
Like so many decisions of Trump's.

Depends on the horrific nature of the murders.
If my family was slaughtered, yes I could pull a lever no problem.

I thought I would come by and drop some harmless (except the the grass) civil disobedience.

Reading the article Trump has yet to authorise these military executions but he has authorised many civilian ones during his presidency so no doubt he will. I am opposed to execution by any means as too many innocent people have been executed. Just look at the case of Andrew Malkinson who has recently been freed from serving 17 years for a crime he did not commit, imagine if he’d been executed!
Also some of the means of execution in the US are nothing short of barbaric. Surely the only humane method, if one had to be used, would be the same drug used for assisted suicide but not self administered.

Very clever, imaround!

Just over 50% of the American population support the death penalty. It used to be 80% so there's a downward trend.

I'm opposed. Always have been. But ... yes, there's a but ... I would not be devastated if Chris Watts received this penalty.
