ferry thanks for posting that. While the keyboard warriors would be running away the police have to run towards and tackle a crazed man with a knife who would have gone on with his murderous rampage.

I have often in the past criticised the behaviour of the Met police.
I am very sad it is necessary but I was in awe at their response, considerable bravery.

On the BBC News last night they said the perpetrator was well known as having serious violent and mental health issues. Here we go again. Why then is he at liberty to walk the streets? We are too slow to learn and too slow to act.

Moving to a less Jewish area is a non starter.
As a Jew you would loose your whole support system. You would no longer be able to live your life as a practicing Jew.
No kosher shops, no schools, no synagogue, not wearing the clothes that you would normally wear.
No hairdressers to care for the women’s wigs.
It’s a whole life way of living.

This seems to have been an attack by someone with long standing mental health issues.
So, suddenly the magic money tree produces more money for the police.
Perhaps if Mental Health had not been so cash strapped, with workers in it leaving or even having breakdowns as they are so overworked,. Staffing has been cut, whilst workloads substantially increased.
The best security against this sort of attack (against anybody), would be a very substantial and on-going increase in NHS mental health funding.

It is odd when these mental health episodes target Jews rather than I don't know Hindus or catholics, it seems to be a very specific type of 'mental health'.

Saudi Arabia
UAE
Bahrain
Jordan.
Bar one of the above the common denominator is obvious.

Of course that hasn't been suggested TerriBull. In some cases that would mean dismantling the demographics of whole cities. And that would effectively be ethnic cleansing.

But apparently, the very few small enclaves where for very practical reasons the Jewish community live are ok to dismantle and separate people from their friends, their schools, their work, their shops, their places of worship - in fact dismantle a whole community that has been built up over many years. That's seemingly not ethnic cleansing, it's "for their safety".

Short term measures can be taken (banning anti-Semitic marches, deporting hate preachers, more security, etc.,) though they won't guarantee total safety.

Long term education has to address latent anti-Semitism in the population which has been inculcated for centuries.

Jewish people should not have to change their lifestyle or be hounded out of their homes. Haven't they had to do that for centuries.
Society needs to change. I agree with Grantanow about education starting in the nursery.
This can never be an easy fix but we have to try. It's intolerable that this hatred leading to violence is happening in this century.

Has anybody seen anything further about the other attack that morning which was thought to be allegedly by the same perpetrator? I saw it reported immediately after the Golders Green attack, but nothing since.

What a mess this country is in! If only more politicians understood human nature. By allowing all these pro-Palestine marches they are actively encouraging anti-Jewish feeling. It goes beyond what is happening in Israel.

Ok I will bite. People who play this game are going to get a shock if I know anything about this country. So if that's the choice put before us I stand with the Jewish community.

Sorry, but I don't understand this post. Which game are (which) people playing, and why will they get a shock - ie what is likely to happen? And what do you know about the UK that you're not saying? Also, what is the choice put before us?

Too easy for terrorists to identify a group and cause mayhem. Not so easy if as a Jewish person I spread myself into the local community, although if I am a practicing Jew the synagogue must be a risk.

I really don't see why Jewish people should have to move away from friends, family, support groups, for their own safety in the United Kingdom in the 21st century.

That is quite an astonishing suggestion and suggestive of what has happened over centuries of persecution of Jewish people who have had to flee their homes because their lives were in danger to seek sanctuary elsewhere.

This is one of the countries where they sought sanctuary and, sadly, it is no longer safe.
