Is anyone actually surprised? They will literally try anything to get into the UK.

valdali Thu 16-Apr-26 17:12:12

Absolutely but the world was always thus. Where there's something to be exploited to make money... a gap in the market...
Actually Pakistan was quoted on the bbc as one of the places unsafe for gay people and regarding executions there, While Pakistan has laws that allow for the death penalty for same-sex activity, there are no known cases of the government ever carrying out an execution for it.
To be gay (for men, cos the powers that be couldn't imagine women might be) was imprisonable here till 1967. Maybe to claim asylum for this, some sort of personal persecution ought to be required for evidence. After all, if you allow people to come over here on the basis that homosexuality is illegal in their country, then you weaken the homosexual faction in that country who can vote accordingly or campaign to change the status quo, in their country.

That may be so! but this thread is equally about bent manipulative lawyers.

I think that is the most important element in the discussion. People desperate to enter the country are going to try many different, dishonest in some cases, means to get accepted. Lawyers who help them to lie and falsify legal documentation deserve very strict punishment.

Wyllow3 Thu 16-Apr-26 17:22:52

Yes.

Primrose53 Thu 16-Apr-26 17:29:16

twaddle

Primrose53

Another excuse they use is “domestic violence”. They know or are told every trick in the book.

Ah! The amorphous "they". Would it be possible to quantify this group?

You know full well who we are discussing. See the thread title. Migrants!

Wyllow3 Thu 16-Apr-26 17:43:25

Can you provide some evidence, Primrose ?

No, I am not totally doubting you, that it's been used, but just saying it is so isn't enough - some details, the extent, who is doing this, some examples, any facts etc?

Cossy Thu 16-Apr-26 17:50:21

I’m amazed that some people are more outraged by (sometimes) desperate migrants lying to enter the UK than the corrupt lawyers getting them to lie to get both legal aid (payment for said lawyers) and then getting them to lie and indeed create a whole fictitious backstory to try and get their asylum claims accepted!

What is wrong with people! 😱😱😱

Yes. And struck off so they cannot practise again.

sixandahalf 18.26.

Google BBC "Migrants making false claims to stay in UK, BBC investigation finds" for domestic violence reference.

I agree with Allira, Casdon and TerriBull- it's the bent lawyers and "advisors" to blame for encouraging this. May they be found, held accountable and where necessary, struck of the Solictor's register.

Domestic violence was mentioned in the bbc report.
Do you believe the bbc?

Who does most damage, though?
Those despicable lawyers who are making a living by coaching people to cheat, or those lawyers in the USA that use every loophole, every contact, every delaying tactic, every pay-off to keep Trump (who is a very naughty man) un-impeached and free to cause the world grief?

petra Thu 16-Apr-26 18:45:53

When/if 😉 these solicitors are struck off they will still be able to give ( sell 🤬) advice.

On a broader note these solicitors will run rings round the home office if it ever goes to trail.

Both! Both types are utterly despicable

Iam64 Thu 16-Apr-26 18:48:48

I’m astounded it’s taken so long to high light this issue. Let’s hope ‘something ‘ is done. Do Immigration lawyers need greater powers to refuse applicants they doubt - ongoing repeated appeals are so expensive

sixandahalf Thu 16-Apr-26 18:56:24

So I suppose it would be Some Migrants really?

Are Some migrants claiming they are the victims of DV?

These wily individuals are coached by money grabbing lawyers and told to pretend they are in danger?

sixandahalf Thu 16-Apr-26 19:03:30

Refusal Rates: Refusal rates for migrants seeking leave to remain under the 'Domestic Violence rule' rose significantly from 12% to 30% between 2012 and 2016

It seems quite a number of cases were thrown out.

Red herring.

The 'lawyers' and advisers are wily.
The asylum seekers are clutching at straws.

Goady posts are not helpful to balanced discussion.

Gosh you seem remarkably knowledgeable on this subject.

Do you have any links or data at all please?

Who are " they".

Another goady post.

Go on then, I’ll bite …… this time. But expect even this won’t be good enough.

But - there have always been bent lawyers just as there are bent coppers.

It is nothing new.

As do people who lie, to get into this country.

But just because there are does not mean there should be.
They need to be rooted out and charged. Fraud?

Casdon Thu 16-Apr-26 21:22:16

I’ve been thinking about that Allira. It constitutes a betrayal of the UK law different to the usual type of fraud, maybe it should be part of people trafficking, I don’t know.

Allira Thu 16-Apr-26 21:23:31

Me neither.
I'm not a lawyer!
