Trump says he will scrap trade deal with UK

In his latest rant Trump has said he could stop the trade deal he agreed to with the UK, after Reeves criticised the fact that the war in Iran has no exit plan.
I think the truth is that as the ongoing war continues to wreak havoc with the world economy there will be many governments speaking out more robustly about Trumps costly error which will affect their people adversely. He has made a humongous mess of things and rather than face this is lashing out at governments well and truly pee’ed off with rising prices at the petrol pumps and rising energy bills, as well as prices going up in the shops and mortgages in the UK affected, not sure if the increase in mortgages is the case for other countries but they will certainly be experiencing a cost of living crisis.

Cossy I don’t think it’s my opinion. Iran has sworn to destroy Israel.

Cossy I don’t think it’s my opinion. Iran has sworn to destroy Israel.

They had better get a wriggle on in that case - so far Israel and the USA have caused a minimum of £200billion worth of destruction in Iran.

Lebanon is also being destroyed and unless something happens, Netanyahu is not going to stop until he has achieved total destruction - a La Gaza.

Israel will do the same in Iran, although it will be very difficult to achieve.

Ah, the West Bank. So much that is illegal going on there, while the world focuses on the Strait of Hormus.

ronib Thu 16-Apr-26 12:22:52

Is it a case of I have to kill you first?

Maremia Thu 16-Apr-26 12:23:07

Netanyahu, what can I say?

ronib Thu 16-Apr-26 13:27:14

Maremia. Ayatollah, say something. Your silence keeps us in unending darkness and war.

Does anyone believe that trump and what's happening the wars, Christian, Muslim and jews being aggressive to each other are signs that we are in the last days? I've read some interesting things that appear to point to that. Just interested in people's opinions.

Sick to death of the demented, orange, buffoon. It’s tine he was removed.
Can only imagine when the King goes, Trump will parade him like a trophy, probably want to gild him too.
My hope is that Charles uses an excuse “suddenly becoming too ill to travel”.

I really don’t think so, there will always be war and conflicts unfortunately.

Trump has sworn to destroy much of many things!

Sadly historically some countries despise each other and there’s normally a reason.

Not to attack Iran would lead to Iran developing nuclear weapons and with its current theocracy, to fulfil its objective of destroying Israel. Simple.

If gaining nukes meant Iran would use them against Israel they would wipe out their own country too, also if this is the remit when countries we consider rogue get nukes I would expect Northern Korea to use theirs.
In a nutshell nukes are not so much a weapon as a deterrent and certainly Israel and the US would not have attacked Iran if they had them.

They are a deterrent and it’s worked very well for us so far.
Other countries will also have them as a deterrent but when rogue nations have them such as Iran then it’s entirely possible they would actually use them.
Death is martyrdom to them and they care nothing for the lives of fellow Iranians as we saw in January.
They just see ‘the cause’ like any extremists. The world allows them to have nuclear bombs at their peril.

AGAA4 Thu 16-Apr-26 14:23:59

As has been said many times Iran having a nuclear weapon doesn't mean they will wipe out Israel. It is a deterrent.
Would the US have attacked Iran if they had a nuclear weapon. I doubt it.
Like other countries they want to feel safer.
The reason for attacking Iran was not about nuclear weapons. That's just hogwash.

Cossy Thu 16-Apr-26 14:24:34

oreo I would say that there’s other nations who quite easily “go rogue” - should “the world” attempt to stop them, and at what cost?

AGAA4 Thu 16-Apr-26 14:27:50

Oreo Iran wouldn't want to destroy itself for the sake of nuking Israel. Israel has a nuclear weapon and hates Iran so understandable that they want that deterrent too.

I know a Trump fanatic who says that Trump is a very clever man and will soon instigate a New World Order and everything in the world will be wonderful. Is this person seriously deluded or does anyone else believe that too? Reminds me of predictions of the second coming of Christ! In fact, wasn’t Trump depicting himself as a Christlike figure earlier this week? There’s a lot of speculation from other sources that say Trump has some form of dementia. My mother had dementia and it’s a truly terrifying condition which I wouldn’t wish on anyone, but could Trump be heading that way if he’s not there already?! He seems to get more and more unpredictable and erratic every day.

I think the mullahs in the regime would be happy to go out in a blaze of glory tbh.

IMO regardless of how good the next POTUS may be, the damage done to America's relationship and reputation not just with the UK but so many other countries, will never be completely repaired.

Damage has been done to their own country too, I am in regular contact with my friend in the USA, she says it was a divided country split down the middle when Trump became POTUS but now many more people are against him even MAGA supporters. ICE, cost of living, health care and welfare cuts and now Vance’s latest attack on the Pope have added to the division. Trump thought he was indomitable, as illustrated by his claim that he could shoot somebody dead on Fifth Avenue and people would still vote for him, but the mid terms will tell a very different story.

I think his problem is megalomania rather than dementia.

Trump's behaviour is becoming more and more bizarre. He reacts strongly to any small criticism. He is writing on his Truth Social in the early hours of if the morning.
It's thought his narcissistic personality isn't coping with the failure of this war and he lashes out in very inappropriate ways.
He is clearly ill and needs somebody to insist on medical assessment.
How much worse will get before someone says enough.

I quite agree Trump does need a mental health assessment. I read an article by a psychologist who said there is a type of dementia where people don't have the usual symptoms of forgetfulness. It made a lot of sense. Here is a link to it:

I think we can be sure that the Ayatollahs and those at the top are no more interested in martyrdom than you or I but happy to martyr their own people. So they will not fire nukes that could also wipe them out. I mean why hide in bunkers in Tehran if they want to martyr themselves.

ronib Thu 16-Apr-26 15:09:23

Israel has phenomenal technical ability to kill Ayatollahs and top tier players in the government and armed forces. It will continue to use this capability.

It's always sickened me how fast world leaders send their armies out to die for them. A lot of the armed forces are the young poor and neglected who signed up to have a roof over their heads and a job. Such a terrible waste of young lives.

Maremia Thu 16-Apr-26 15:29:46

If so ronib, why did they need to drag the USA into the war?

Good! In that case, it doesn't need the UK's or anybody else's help. We can leave Israel to clear up the mess with a clear conscience.

Maremia Thu 16-Apr-26 15:34:52

Meloni had a good answer to Trump's whinging about not joining in the war.
She named all of the countries who already have nuclear weapons, and added that only one has already used them.
