Trump says he will scrap trade deal with UK

In his latest rant Trump has said he could stop the trade deal he agreed to with the UK, after Reeves criticised the fact that the war in Iran has no exit plan.
I think the truth is that as the ongoing war continues to wreak havoc with the world economy there will be many governments speaking out more robustly about Trumps costly error which will affect their people adversely. He has made a humongous mess of things and rather than face this is lashing out at governments well and truly pee’ed off with rising prices at the petrol pumps and rising energy bills, as well as prices going up in the shops and mortgages in the UK affected, not sure if the increase in mortgages is the case for other countries but they will certainly be experiencing a cost of living crisis.

Jane43, it is possible to have both.

Meloni had a good answer to Trump's whinging about not joining in the war.
She named all of the countries who already have nuclear weapons, and added that only one has already used them.

Not a fan of hers but well said 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Ah! Great point she made there!

The rhetoric used by the regime has been the same for 47 years, they use the same threatening hyperbole as many in the ME. And Israel has also been saying they will wipe Iran off the face of the earth, thing is they are making good on that threat.

Brexit appears to have caused damage to the UK, and whilst I appreciate the referendum result was agreed to leave I do not think the full impact was known and we do need to have stronger ties with Europe. Trump cannot be trusted. His word cannot be relied upon and he is happy to pour criticism to anyone within his mind set and who will not bow to his bullying. Our government is in a difficult position and Keir Starmer bashing is not good for anyone. I would hate his job. His approach has been calm and not to rush into an illegal war is a credit to him but I do think he needs to move quicker on some of the things that could help our farmers, economy and relationships with other governments. Not everything can be blamed on the Labour government. Nevertheless Mr. Trump will continue to cause major problems with his continued egotistical rantings almost akin to sundowning, and he needs to be removed from office before things get even worse. Im heading for the duvet now and will get right under it.

Absolutely not.
We had a reasonable trade deal with America, better than most, which has been systematically undone by Starmer's behaviour.
His intention has always been to return to Europe, ignoring the democratic result of the Referendum, and he is achieving his aim. Disaster awaits.

I don't agree with you. Starmer has been very diplomatic, it's Trump who has been a total loon. Starmer has shown great restraint in the face of criticism by Trump. Despite all that, Starmer has said nothing bad about Trump. Trump is peeved because the UK and other nations didn't support the illegal offensive war he and Israel started.

Lovetopaint037 Thu 16-Apr-26 17:48:01

It’s the strange world of Dr Strangelove which is how I have seen Trump ever since he was elected. What is even stranger is the apparent lack of action by the American people. How can one man turn the world upside down, depict himself as Christ, hold himself above the Pope, insult our PM and get away with it ? As for the murder of so many innocents well I can only recall Jesus saying as he gathered some children around him that whoever hurt one of these it was better that he be cast into the furthermost ocean. He is a sick maniac and needs to be got rid of as soon as possible.

so many innocents!,
!!!!!

Flakesdayout. You said what I was thinking. The UK cannot trust America under Trump and I think this special relationship has now ended. Do your worse Trump because we refuse to be bullied by an impetious man child.

This is yet another fairly well known conspiracy theory, sadly the USA is rife with such.

IMO, Trump has some form or combination of personality disorder/s such as Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD).

IMO, it’s not dementia alone, look back, his behaviour, even as a child, according to those who knew him then, which comprised a somewhat emotionally neglected yet incredibly entitled and privileged childhood, it seems no one ever said “no” to him and he simply cannot cope with being told no.

He appears to have no emotional intelligence, no handle on his temper, no thought of others, he doesn’t understand boundaries or consequences and he’s just a pointless useless dangerous human being! In my very humble opinion!

The trouble is the "professor" in your video link is not actually a university professor and neither is he an accredited geopolitical expert. This video content has been described as 'delusional rants' by critics.

His "forecasts' and 'predictions' are based on weak evidence and have no verification. Many users and researchers have debunked this High School teacher's credentials and say his video content should, be treated as speculative commentary and/or entertainment.

Trump has managed to make the USA unrecognizable to its friends in 12 months of reckless and dangerous behaviour. America is no longer the friend and ally of Europe we must pivot/uncouple away from the USA, like a slow divorce as quickly as humanly possible. it will take time but there is no going back.

I don’t like Starmer at all but compared with Trump he is a saint ! Trump is a turning out to be a crap artist.

In all honesty Trump is a sadist, toxic, cruel, pedaphile, phisher and bully ..

It is best for The U.K. to "drive in another direction" and avoid as if he is Covid !!

This is man who separates children from their parents and puts them in "cages" !! and sends the parents to 3rd world countries such as Libya.

The self-styled "Professor Jiang" (who has never taught at university level) is a conspiracy theorist and I won't be paying much attention, but thanks for posting. It's an example of the kind of misinformation which floods the internet.

I think he proved this in his last POTUS stint. Yet, still they voted for him.

HowNowBrownCow Thu 16-Apr-26 20:17:26

Goodbye Mr Trump, please close the door quietly on your way out!

We are clearly not valued or respected by the Trump administration so the so called special relationship doesn’t really exist in real terms. People voted Brexit in part to free us from a super state pulling strings, so why allow another country to hold us to ransom. We have a great opportunity to mend our relationship with the rest of Europe and sack off the orange man child, biding our time with dignity until someone more sensible takes office 🙏
I am a socialist but wasn’t a big Starmer fan, however I am impressed with his handling of Trump, usually POTUS says jump and we ask how high.

“The A carbon dioxide (CO2) plant has reopened as part of a contingency plan against supply disruption caused by the war in Iran.
The plant in Teesside, operated by Ensus, manufactures bioethanol, which produces CO2 used in food and drink production and the slaughter of livestock.
It comes as the government warned the UK could face some food shortages by the summer, in a worst case scenario, if the conflict continued.
Ensus chairman Grant Pearson said it was important to protect "our key supply chains", while a government spokesperson said it was "continuing to work with business groups to tackle the impact of events in the Middle East".
They added the government planned for a "worse case scenario" and it was not "a prediction of future events".
The government decided to temporarily restart the Ensus bioethanol plant in Redcar, which was mothballed after a trade deal with the US to remove a tariff on American ethanol imports.”
More pro activity (reactivity?)from the government. The previous government imo didn’t plan ahead for any of the problems were facing now eg gas storage.

Agree totally.
For it is not just the POTUS we can’t trust it is the voters, and they aren’t going anywhere. What if they vote in another loon after Trump, perhaps Vance will get his chance, God help us.
In any case it has made all western allies reevaluate their relationship with the US and Europe with the UK is looking at their own defences without relying on the US. These kind of decisions will separate us from the US, and are too costly for us to reverse once Trump is out of the Whitehouse.
The die has been cast.

DrWatson Fri 17-Apr-26 00:59:56

Thx Eazy, Brexit WAS indeed 'democratic', but by an extremely narrow majority.

Many organisations have written into their constitution (some countries also) the necessity for a 2-thirds majority, or similar (60 to 40% perhaps?) for various types of momentous change. Sadly, but perhaps not surprisingly, messrs Dave & George didn't have the wit to make that specification.

Just to be clear, WHICH parts of the UK's activities since Brexit are you claiming to be an outstanding success?

Juliepat Fri 17-Apr-26 07:09:52

I can't believe that any rational person believes the UK should support Trump. He is an egotistical bully and blasphemer
We are lucky to have a Prime Minister that consults others before acting.
