Rennee Good's family lawyers have now released the results of an independent autopsy, showing three gunshot wounds. She was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said at the time the agent opened fire after Good tried to ram officers with her vehicle.

The DHS has not yet published the outcome of its investigation. We await details of what legal action Good's family lawyers may take against DHS. This thread has been started as the previous thread comes towards its 1000 post end to discuss the aftermath, impact and repercussions.

That is an amazing turnaround in Texas, of all places.
Also, yes WhiteWave, wonderful to see that wee boy being freed, although his status is still not secure. 👏

Really good news to see the Democratic candidate's success in Texas- let's hope the tide will continue to turn in other traditionally republican states.

Amazing visual isn't it? I'm going to see if I can find the 2024 one to compare.

ProPublica identified the officers who killed Pretti. Their article and statement from the Editor.

It's only fair that they should be named. They are supposed to be public servants, and it has been so wrong that any of them were allowed to hide from scrutiny.

Trying to follow what is happening with the government shutdown, but there are confusing reports.

Maremia Mon 02-Feb-26 16:48:54

Will the Dems succeed in blocking that money input to ICE?

imaround Mon 02-Feb-26 16:59:49

They have so far Maremia. And there are Republicans who voted to shut it down as well. There seems to be quite a bit of backlash about these files among Republicans that I can see from my end.

Do I think this will take him down? No. If nothing else, MAGA appears to be holding on to the delusion that Trump is doing what is best for them, so they are OK with some "bad" things happening of that means they get what they want, IMO.

Pretti's death has been ruled a homicide by the Coroner. We all knew that because we have eyes, but it is on official documents now.

Here is information on it here in the US. I have no idea if it different here, but can't imagine it would be much different.

"The federal agents led by an ICE officer who surrounded and fatally shot Renee Good in Minneapolis last month appear to have violated the agency’s policies regarding the use of force during nearly every step of the encounter, according to internal documents obtained by HuffPost."

Thank goodness someone with power is thinking that way, documenting it, and so, preparing for action to be taken to achieve justice.

Maremia Tue 03-Feb-26 13:23:43

And now the ICE agents have been told to wear bodycams.

imaround Tue 03-Feb-26 13:58:51

They were told to wear body cams months ago. Congress even set aside money IIRC.

Internal document here:

The day after Renee Good was murdered, agent shot 2 people in Portland. There was never much about it because the agents didn't wear body cameras and, so far, no bystander video had been seen.

It was the same tired trope. They were dangerous gang members who tried to run them over.

Information is finally coming out.

"But court records obtained by the Guardian reveal a Department of Justice prosecutor later directly contradicted DHS’ Tren de Aragua statements in court, telling a judge, “We’re not suggesting … [Niño-Moncada] is a gang member.” An FBI affidavit issued following the incident also suggests that in the previous shooting cited by DHS, Zambrano-Contreras was not a suspect, but rather a reported victim of a sexual assault and robbery. Neither Niño-Moncada or Zambrano-Contreras have prior criminal convictions, their lawyers have said."

What does it mean when Trump says he intends to nationalise the elections snd the republicans will take it over?

imaround Tue 03-Feb-26 19:01:45

Each state runs its own elections. They all have different rules and laws, but they all adhere to Federal requirements and laws.

In this case, I haven't read it closely, it seems as though he doesn't like mail in voting and sanctuary cities and thinks those places allow illegals to vote. So, to keep it "fair" and "secure" he wants the GOP to move those areas under federal control.

All their manipulation is backfiring on them. Texas Gerrymandered based on the Latino vote. And then this happened this weekend.

We are about to see Texas turn blue on 2026 I think. And the best part is, they did it to themselves with Gerrymanderig. grin

An interesting article on authoritarianism failure. Huff isn't usually paywalled, but it was giving me pop ups. Hope it works.

Facebook reports now saying that ICE agents are complaining about not being paid.
Maybe some will resign.

imaround Tue 03-Feb-26 23:08:36

That is true. All they have to do is quit. At any time. Though that won't save them from consequences.

This is probably the best clap back to Trump I have seen so far.

Oh look. Nothing has changed. Someone is going to be murdered again.

ICE draws guns on protestors in Minneapolis. Again.

Doesn't matter if they win the Nobel Peace Prize or not. There is going to be almost a whole year's worth of publicity for this nomination. People are learning how to play this dark and dangerous 'game'.

Just watched the amazing protest Super Bowl halftime show. I don't speak a lick of Spanish, but it was fun to watch and dance to the music. Can't wait to watch the meltdown.

Ha ha. It seems that Trump hated it...
