Crikey, a week in hospital! She must have been poorly.

There seems to be a dreadful strain of the flu about right now.
A few people I know have had it and one ended up in hospital like Carrie. We had the jab but people who have had the jab have reportedly got it really badly.
This cold weather with people staying indoors will only have made things worse I'm afraid.

Poor Carrie, hope she’s on the mend now.

Goodness, she is young to be so poorly with that, hope she recovers soon. It shows how serious the viruses going round this winter can be.

You can pay for it at most pharmacies if you are not in the cohort for a free one.

I ended up in hospital for a week with pneumonia. I was 27. Awful experience!

Wilfred has probably started school now and children bring all kinds of bugs and viruses home with them.

As well as that, there seem to be a lot of nasty viruses around this winter as well as 'flu.

I hope Carrie is recovering well; it seems as if it was nasty and sounds quite frightening, especially in a younger person.

We get all sorts off our GCs, they are nursery age and rarely come home without a snotty nose and cough.
Haven't had the flu yet, got it last year, first time in years, and would not want that again.

I wonder if that means she was treated by the NHS and not privately.

Private hospitals don’t deal with medical emergencies of that kind, you would always be admitted under the NHS.

Flu vaccines are by necessity from the most recent strains - last year’s, to have time to make millions of doses. Therefore, if the virus has mutated, even slightly, the vaccine may not be as effective.
Sounds like this is the case.

DDs and SinLs have always paid privately for the jab, as they aren’t eligible for the free NHS ones. Better safe than sorry, even if this years isn’t as effective as previous years.
