Good choice of names! tcrsmile ?

Grany Sat 12-Jun-21 15:48:22

Don't forget queen and PC also get money from the two duchies, several millions each, despite belonging to the nation, not included when working out funding, though never mind Osbourne gave overly generous Sovereign Grant included a golden rachet meaning this money can only ever go up never down. Ripping off the nation, money in off shore account not piggy bank. Don't pay inheritance tax

Anniebach Sat 12-Jun-21 15:50:21

Grany how can it be true ? You make such unbelievable accusations,

25Avalon Sat 12-Jun-21 15:54:33

The Duchies do not belong to the nation.

Elegran Sat 12-Jun-21 16:02:42

I used to counter Grany's posts with the factual versions, but I don't any more.

It's worrying, though, that some believe it.

I know, we could have a Presidential system like, for example, France, it would only cost twice as much.
Bargain.

It does become tedious, doesn't it Elegran.

Not everything comes down to money though.

Some of it comes down to not having a feudal state.

maddyone Sat 12-Jun-21 16:12:27

maddyone could be greeted by the butler at the front door of course.

But of course. I wouldn’t expect any less grin

Callistemon Sat 12-Jun-21 16:14:14

So you won't want the Queen and her descendants as Head of State when Scotland becomes independent?

I'm still confused.
Perhaps I'm just thick.

Just think, President Nicola could be skipping across the Balmoral acres after it's been confiscated, that would be lovely.

Callistemon Sat 12-Jun-21 16:17:25

Some of it comes down to not having a feudal state.

I keep forgetting I'm a subject and a forelock- tugging serf.
My passport tells me I'm a citizen, must be a lie.

Orf to the Tower for me.

Alegrias1 Sat 12-Jun-21 16:17:54

Me, personally Call, no.

But I'm in the minority, most people still want the Queen and her descendants to be HoS. So its not even up for discussion right now. I know you're joking but some people do actually think that voting for independence means President Nicola hmm. Or worse still, President Alex!

Anyway Balmoral is their private residence, so they can stay there as long as they like.

Maybe maddyone would like to be our HoS? grin

Galaxy Sat 12-Jun-21 16:21:27

Yes it's nothing to do with money for me, the whole concept of bowing etc feels to me something out of a feudal society. And increasingly it's the element of soap opera and I think it's becoming increasingly unpleasant for those who live within it.

Duchy of Lancaster lands were granted by Henry 111 to his son Edmund Crouchback in 1265. The lands had originally belonged to Simon de Montefort and had been confiscated by the king. Cornwall was also a gift from Edward 111rd to his son the Black Prince and passed down the centuries. Neither of these belong to the state and are owned privately by the sovereign and P of W.
Why so sneery about Catherine's qualifications. A level Maths and a good degree sound ok to me. But,dear me,the snobby comments about her background and her not be interested in education ! Nasty, particularly when said by someone who knows absolutely nothing about her except of course her despised ancestry. I love our RF, as do all my family including G.C's and the trooping this morning was fantastic. Medieval pageantry? Bring it on!

maddyone Sat 12-Jun-21 16:30:41

Maybe maddyone would like to our HofS? grin

I’m not sure you’d grin if I was, heavens forbid. I hate to think of the mess I’d undoubtedly make of it. Anyway,I’m not Scottish, but my Godfather was, does that count?

Alegrias1 Sat 12-Jun-21 16:31:59

Well come and live here for a while and you'll be welcome wink

maddyone Sat 12-Jun-21 16:37:39

Thank you Alegrias but I think I’ll to wait till the pandemic is over, then I’ll up like a shot. I hope Nichola will give me the greeting I deserve. Actually I’ve just seen that the Queen is hosting afternoon tea for President Biden tomorrow. I wonder if Mrs Biden is going too? Perhaps he needs a plus one. I’m free smile

Jabberwok Sat 12-Jun-21 16:38:55

Balmoral and Sandringham are both private estates, as is the Castle of Mey so they cannot be confiscated . Sorry to disappoint all those who wish them homeless come the republican dream.
I too am curious about the property in Wales Annie! I wonder if we will find out where it is? Caernarfon Castle? Harlech?

Alegrias1 Sat 12-Jun-21 16:42:17

I just said that Balmoral was their private residence so your ire is a bit misplaced!

maddyone Sat 12-Jun-21 17:13:32

Well I just popped into the kitchen to mix up a banana cake for the exclusive garden party I’m holding tomorrow.

That’s means sandwiches and cake in the garden with the family grin although my daughter in law and I are partial to a little tipple of Prosseco with our food.

Do you think the Queen will come if I ask her? It’s probably a bit late in the day to issue an invitation though, and anyway, she’s got the Bidens at hers tomorrow.

Callistemon Sat 12-Jun-21 17:22:12

You could invite the Bidens too.
I'm sure lockdown banana cake will be a novelty for them!

Which reminds me, I have two over ripe bananas, must ask Cook to make a cake.

trisher Sat 12-Jun-21 17:24:06

Funny all the misapprehensions royal supporters labour under and all the false accusations hurled at republicans.
Trooping the Colour is not Medieval it is 17th century. It may now be pageantry but it's origins were practical. You wanted your troops to recognise and not kill soldiers on their side who were identified by the colours they wore, which also appeared on the regimental flag.

As far as Katherine and education goes I don't consider an A level and a degree makes anyone an expert or a supporter of children's education (and that includes Gavin Williamson).

I don't want anyone to be homeless. I do want to see the show and pageantry seperated from the democratic government of the country.
I think if we have a monarch then they should have no part in government and they should have to pay taxes like any other citizen, income tax, capital gains tax, VAT, council tax and inheritance tax and anything else the rest of us do.
I also think there should be a retirement age for the job.

Callistemon Sat 12-Jun-21 17:24:40

Maybe maddyone would like to be our HoS?

I'm sure maddyone would make an excellent HofS but she'd probably proclaim that everyone should eat banana cake every Sunday.

Alegrias1 Sat 12-Jun-21 17:25:28

I could live with that. grin

trisher Sat 12-Jun-21 17:28:28

Would the banana cake be supplied or would we have to buy it?

Calendargirl Sat 12-Jun-21 18:24:49

Harry and Meghan, Escaping The Palace

Obviously an updated version of Colditz.

Harry in the Steve McQueen role?

Meghan, hmm, not sure, probably writing herself a starring role as we speak.
