Oh dear.

Tracy Brabin, aged 58y, Labour MP for Batley, ex ‘Corrie’ soap actress wore this yesterday in the HoC.

I was embarrassed on her behalf. What do you think about her choice of outfit for work?

Do stop stirring the pot suzie
Say what you want to without constant insults to other posters.

Yehbutnobut Wed 05-Feb-20 14:35:38

And had you bothered to read the thread you would know that.

suziewoozie Wed 05-Feb-20 14:35:45

FFS lemon how the hell do you know she would have done it again? She’s never done it before so logic - yes I know a silly concept - would actually mean she was very unlikely to do it again. Once ffs. Once. Pathetic. Whereas BJ lies every single time he opens his mouth.

suziewoozie Wed 05-Feb-20 14:39:02

Stop telling me what to do * lemon*. I know you and your lot are annoyed at how this thread has gone. Get over it. There are so many pearls scattered on the floor after being clutched so hard that this thread has become a health and safety hazard.

It must take so much energy to make angry comments all the time suzie time for a cuppa? brew

In the immortal words of Rita Duckworth when seeing a shirt Jack picked; "Have you no taste or discretion"
We are all judged by how we turn ourselves out. A girl of 18 can be forgiven for a wardrobe error but not a woman of 58.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 05-Feb-20 14:42:58

lemongrove have you checked your in-box?

Many of you sound like my mother's generation. I'm 73 so you can imagine how ancient you sound.

Why can't you accept that the shoulder slipped?

Maybe she likes to wear strapless bras because the straps cut into her shoulders. By the way, if you looked closely at the pix you would see the folds in the fabric on her right arm which suggests that it was a sleeve that slipped.

I'm writing as someone who doesn't wear a bra most days, unless I'm going out or we are expecting visitors because I find it more comfortable.

Re Corbyn - he is now wearing a grubby anorak, he is wearing a padded coat with a hood - no marks detectable in the pictures - which was appropriate for the weather and his age.

Summerlove If a male can’t concentrate because of what a woman is wearing, said male should really not be out in public. A woman’s clothing choice shouldn’t distract a man.
But it seems this woman's clothing choice has distracted everyone, men and women! ?

Daisymae Wed 05-Feb-20 14:46:06

It's an off the shoulder dress. Apparently now flying off the shelves. However not appropriate for work.

SirChenjin Wed 05-Feb-20 14:48:39

If only our incumbent PM demonstrated the discretion required by some posters on here.

A shoulder really isn’t worth getting so her up about. If she’d appeared in a t shirt with the slogan ‘smack my bitch up’ and wearing nothing on her bottom half but a pair of crotchless knickers then I might have raised an eyebrow - but a bare shoulder? Just not important in the overall scheme of things.

SirChenjin Wed 05-Feb-20 14:49:05

Het

Nezumi65 Wed 05-Feb-20 15:05:59

I wouldn’t care what Priti Patel was wearing either. I do care that she doesn’t know the difference between terrorism and counter-terrorism.

lemongrove Wed 05-Feb-20 15:16:08

Yes, I just did thanks GrannyGravy smile

prestbury Wed 05-Feb-20 15:25:15

I cannot believe the vitriol from a lot of Gransnetters on this subject.

While I agree the dress was inappropriate for the HoC, Tracy Brabin has explained that she was at a music event that afternoon and was summoned to the dispatch box to speak, which she was not expecting to do that day. I would expect no time to get changed.

The extensive shoulder slip is probably the way she was stooping and supporting herself at the dispatch box as she currently has a broken ankle and a plaster cast up to her knee.

Callistemon Wed 05-Feb-20 15:31:51

Alexa we might question whether or not this is appropriate workwear but it doesn't mean we disapprove of the dress itself.

I'm not particularly keen on the one shoulder or cold shoulder look for myself but it doesn't mean that I would criticise a friend with nice shoulders wearing that dress for a night out, in fact it could look quite glam.

I think most of the vitriol is on other fora and could be from younger people
And not all Gransnetrers are old as has been pointed out quite vociferously recently.
Certainly few are elderly, and using elderly as an insult is ageist, isn't it?

suziewoozie Wed 05-Feb-20 15:36:31

prestbury yes she came from another event ( for which the dress was quite appropriate) and was called unexpectedly to the house. Her left leg is in plaster upto her knee so I expect nipping home to change wasn’t an option. As she can’t put weight on her left leg, she leaned to the right at the dispatch box and that may well explain the extra slippage. Credit to her for carrying on working when she could do easily have hidden in a fridge

SirChenjin Wed 05-Feb-20 15:37:36

Thank you for confirming that prestbury. It explains perfectly just what a complete storm in a teacup this whole non-incident was.

Callistemon Wed 05-Feb-20 15:37:45

JenniferE what did she say?

It seems to have been lost in the mists of the controversy over her dress.
So had she worn something suitable for work we might now know!

suziewoozie Wed 05-Feb-20 15:38:37

prest sorry for repeating your points but maybe the context is worth giving twice in view of the judgemental, misogynistic drivel on this thread

suziewoozie Wed 05-Feb-20 15:40:32

Well Call so she’s not superwoman. I doubt most of her detractors on here give a damn about what she was saying because it was critical of the blond god.

SirChenjin Wed 05-Feb-20 15:41:23

You’re quite right to repeat it suzie. Context is everything.

Callistemon Wed 05-Feb-20 15:44:43

she's never done it before
I wouldn't know as I have never heard of her before this.

We all know who she is now, though, don't we grin

Oopsminty Wed 05-Feb-20 15:47:28

prestbury yes she came from another event ( for which the dress was quite appropriate)

So now you're all appearing to say that the dress wasn't appropriate for the HoC

Make your minds up!

Callistemon Wed 05-Feb-20 15:48:17

Oh, I can sympathise if she has a broken ankle, well done for turning up.

When I hobbled into work after a foot operation I was told to go home again because their insurance didn't cover me.
