do you have a built in kitchen bin?

I have just had in the last couple of months had a new kitchen fitted. I have an island with a gas hob and under the work surface area is a large drawer with 3 bins. One for general waste, one for recycling and one for compost. It’s fantastic and great to just be able to wipe all the waste from the work surface directly into the bin. I find this particularly handy fir when I’ve been making bread and can sweep the spare flour away without it getting everywhere. Totally recommend.

I used to be a cleaner and hated these bins , I felt that they were too beautiful to be used for rubbish ! Storage for other things would have been my choice. They were always overflowing , rubbish was down the back and underneath , recycling was muddled by a busy family . Sleek and aesthetically pleasing from the outside but a grisly nightmare inside !

I love my hidden bin. I don’t think I lose cupboard space because if I had a freestanding unit one of the cupboards would have to go. It is emptied daily and gets a good scrub regularly as would a free standing bin. It is only for general waste though, as recycling goes straight into the Swedish retailers recycling bins in our attached garage.

At the bottom of our tall cupboard we have a two bins which slide out, one for regular rubbish and the other for recycling. We empty them both every day and it’s nice to have them out of view.

I had one and took it out,more cupboard space and less mess.

Yes, we have a pullout bin in our kitchen that’s divided into 2 separate bins for recycling and emptied regularly. I have a separate compost bin too.

I guess it depends on the size of your kitchen and if you have a utility room too?

I have had my four part pull-out bin since December and I have not found it at all messy.

I have a bin liner in the waste bin, held in place by the bin handles, swill the compost bin and composting bins out occasionally, the bins are so compact it is very difficult to put anything in the wrong bin, nothing has gone either into the cupboard, nor is there mess between the bins.

Just me and DH in household. It might be different if their were children using them, but then whoever heard of a child using a bin!

I've had pull out bins for the past 30 odd years and wouldn't be without them. My two year old grandson knows how to use them properly too so most husbands should manage without too much trouble.

We love the bins being hidden in the cupboard. I pull the door front handle and it slides out to reveal two decent sized bins. It's similar to this

Being sited next to the sink is far more convenient than under the sink. There's an interior shelf above which acts as a cover for the bins and a concealed drawer above the shelf.

Unless you have it in a utility room, I would class it as a waste of a cupboard. We have a small galley type kitchen and I am short of cupboard space despite our kitchen being about 10 years old. DD1 has a utility room and they have a bin cupboard for 4 different types of rubbish and it's out the way beside their washing machine. I wish I had a utility room!

First job on moving in was to remove the bins from the cupboard under the sink. Impossible to keep clean, smelly and awkward to get to.
Stand alone bins in the utility and a small countertop caddy for veg waste.

Utility rooms are wonderful- we had one added after we moved in and the bins are out there. Even a small one is worth it if you have room. We have to separate our waste into 5 separate containers. Compost bin outside too.

2 plastic bins came with my fitted kitchen and I use them for potatoes and onions fresh root veg etc. Easy to clean and there's no room for a veg rack in the kitchen anyway

Anyone on here live in or around Sheffield - maybe out towards Bakewell area? We are planning to move to be nearer to family but have no idea where to start looking ! We are rural at present but with great accesss to a small market town, swimming pool, theatre, cinema . It all seems so urban or busy around there but we really want to be near loved ones so are going to have to compromise. Any advice or information gratefully received !
