Bath mats.

I have about 6 mats, all are heavyweight ribbed cotton in different patterns, in either white or charcoal. They are gorgeous and have often been used as a cover on my coffee table.... or as a runner on a bigger table to set a vase of flowers on (straight from being laundered, I add).

They've all been picked up in charity shops for a couple of £ each and it's quite possible that they are meant to be table covers/runners.

Because of their size, which would be larger than a standard bath mat, some of them get in the way when opening the bathroom door so as a rule the mat in use sits folded over the side of the bath and is put down for showers/baths.
The floor is charcoal tiles and I only use the one mat at any time.

I keep a small microfibre mop head with an extending shaft in the hot press down the side of the hot water tank, and this is wonderful for a quickie wipe around the bathroom floor if needed, just a spray of Flash and a quick shuftie with the mop... £1 from Pound Shop.

The mat/rug from Dunelm in my lounge didn't even cost anywhere near £65.

Please don't be so nastily dismissive of toilet pedestal mats.
You may find one day you will realise the necessity of them.

Annsixty I personally think they are needed in a bathroom it seems as though we are in the minority but don't worry I will carry on using them. One day others might realise how much they are necessity of life.

I got a lovely grey set for the shower room which match the colour of the carpet from Dunelm.

Oh how I wish I didn't involve myself in such innocuous threads which impact on my personal circumstances.

Annsixty, I’m very upset that you have been upset by some comments. Please don’t get stressed over other people’s opinions, you’ve got quite enough on your plate as it is.

If it’s any consolation, I have used pedestal mats all my married life and shall continue to do so. I still can’t see how they can be considered unhygienic - as I said before, you don’t eat off them. It is a personal preference and each to their own. I couldn’t care less what anybody else thinks. My bathrooms, my choice

Have a look in Matalan. I bought two bath mats 10 years ago for about £8 each. Good thick Cotton all the way through without that awful rubber backing. I’ve still got them and they have kept their colour despite numerous washes.

Some of the patronising remarks about pedestal mats are beyond the pale. Whatever one puts on one's bathroom floor is a matter of personal choice.

annsixty We have a pedestal mat - my OH is in perfect health, I just got him too late to train him! thankfully he has other good qualities but I do grind my teeth a lot .... We actually have lots of mats as with towels, washed daily. I am sure, certain sure, he grinds his teeth over some of my habits - could star a new thread or threads?

I have loads of mats ,bathroom and living room ones, none are down . When OH started tripping they all came up on the orders of the OT and the District Nurse , now that he is chairbound I still can't have mats , they tangle the wheels of the huge chair , it has to be wheeled from room to room . I used to have matching mats and towels only out for visitors lol Mats do seem to finish off ones décor

'It see nothing wrong with using pedestal mats. I have three. My husband is careful but I know he splashes. I'd rather it land on the mat than the floor, rather be soaked up on the mat than carried on the soles of shoes and feet to other floors and carpet. No one washes the floor every time their husband spends a penny (unless they have OCD) so I think mats are more hygienic, not less. I have the lightweight, quick dry ones from M&S, they are excellent. And I add a dash of disinfectant to the fabric softener compartment when they are being washed.
Judging by the vast numbers of mats available, plenty of people use them.

I hate pedestal mats. Ok. Just my preference. I'm sure that, as adults, we can state our preferences without other GNs thinking that we're casting aspersions on THEIR choices.

Paw used to have a raised “throne” (you know what I mean) over the loo and it was set quite high to make it easier for him to stand up.
Now, if you will forgive TMI and are not eating your breakfast, this meant a gap between the throne seat and the loo seat so that there could be a leak when used in the sitting position. I said TMI but we live in the real world.
Which would I have preferred- washing the bathroom floor every day or changing the pedestal mat?
I leave you to guess but hope that the style fashionistas who exclaim Yuk! have better things to be frightfully house and garden about.
(Makes you wonder whether they don’t actually use a loo themselves?)

I don't have a pedastal mat, now my boys have left gone. But I totally understand the necessity! [Flowers]

I must be really dumb. I never thought of the drip factor... I bought new mats when we moved because OH insisted he wanted something soft to stand on. As we have underfloor heating I prefer to go barefoot but like to step onto a mat when wet from the shower. Now I’ve got all sorts of things to think about...

We don't have a pedestal mat and I have to wipe the floor when the GS's are here BUT yesterday was a REVELATION! My 2 year old GS took himself off to the loo and I hurriedly followed - just in case - and he (1) lifted the seat (2) did a wee WITHOUT any spillage (3) wiped himself with some loo roll (4) 'adjusted his clothing' (5) flushed the loo and (6) washed his hands. All without any prompting. It was the first GS in our family to do this and long may it continue!!! And yes, he is 2 - well, a couple of months off 3. I was absolutely amazed - and needless to say he was proud as was his mum.

I know exactly what you mean as I have (in my 'second career') worked as a carer and some of those clients have needed height helpers, as I call them. Yes, the gap is visible and it can be a bind washing the floor OR the mats but pref to wash the mat as the liquid has been absorbed.

Bath mats from IKEA, definitely! They do a lovely dark grey one, so you can put any bright colour with them.
They are the bobbly , microfibre type, very absorbent and wash like a dream.
Always have three on the go, one on, one off and one in the wash!
