Boots Paracetamol Tablets — Adds injury oooooo

Well that’s a shame but I can’t see how they can be liable for how you take your tablets out of their bister pack I m sure
we ve all used hundreds of tablets in blister packs over the years without any injury.

Missing the point there. The foil is extremely sharp so I am presuming that it is a manufacturing fault and just wanted to warn anyone else. Thanks for your comment though.

I did exactly the same a couple of weeks ago. Really painful

Well, we haven’t ’all used hundreds of tablets….without any injury.’ I use a number of prescription meds and regularly end up with nasty little cuts on my fingers from the foil. I don’t think the OP was suggesting that anyone was liable but was simply giving feedback in the hope of some kinder packaging.

Yes, that tablet foil can be lethal. Unfortunately, I have to take quite a few prescription meds and thry are all wrapped up in foil. Some are fine but there are a couple that unless you are extremely careful will give you quite a sharp, deep cut. You suddenly realise you are oozing blood over your tablets. It's a good week when I manage to fill my dosette box without injury, hope your headache clears up soon.x

Ooooo, sorry to hear you have all had similar experiences! It is indeed rather painful. As an aside, I also have secondary to breast cancer lymphoedema so could really have done without a skin puncture. Anyhoo, I will try to be brave lol.

I havent cut myself, but because the foil is so tight, the tablets just end up breaking in half 🙄

Yes, the foil can be very sharp and the cuts are sore, just like little paper cuts. Some packaging is worse than the paracetamol packs.

Perhaps they're tough to prevent small children opening the packs if they managed to get hold of them.

Yes that’s a good point- maybe that’s why they use super glue to seal them & stop little fingers from opening them, including my own, I usually give it up as a bad job 😩

I wonder if vitamin tablets are harmful if taken in larger amounts?
They often come in tubs without child-proof tops.

But then, what child would want to take cod liver oil tablets in quantity? Or any at all if not persuaded?

Well I obviously need to apologise to KatyKrunch for not taking this seriously I have honestly never ever heard of anyone cutting themselves on a blister pack and never had any problems myself so I was thinking it was a very light hearted grumble
If you press on the blister side it just pops out so how could you cut yourself I m not being facetious I ve just been to check how I do it and I don’t see how you would cut yourself ?

I press the blister side , the foil on the other side only half opens , if at all !
I end up taking the nail scissors to it
I did end up cutting myself on the foil as I tried to extract the tablet , I’m more careful now
Another thing is that very few places will recycle the empty blister sheet !

A few months ago, Sainsbury’s changed their paracetamol provider and the tablets were nigh on impossible to remove from the pack without breaking in half…I checked reviews online and there were hundreds of complaints and people just stopped buying them. Sainsbury’s obviously listened and packaging now fine!

Yes I wish I could find where to take the empty packs it seems very ad hoc superdrug used to but now don’t Boots used to but ours doesn’t seem to anymore same with glasses I used to take them to Boots opticians but they wouldn’t accept them last time I tried and ended up taking them all home

I can't understand how you could try to hold the company liable for your own carelessness. I wouldn't blame them if they don't reply to your complaint!

If I took liability against companies every time I'd split my finger on a medicine bubble or hurt my teeth trying to unscrew a medicine bottle, I'd be a multimillionaire by now!

I know exactly how painful those cuts can be, but put some E45 and a plaster on it and move on!

I do press as firmly as I can , end up with aching thumbs , which I then hoped the tablets would help!!

I can't take Boots paracetamol, they make me feel ill .

I'm always doing this as all my meds are in silver foil. No matter how carefully I handle the pack ....it happens!!🥺

What an unpleasant response! I am glad you are so perfect.
How on earth do you interpret the OP’s post as wanting to claim liability / extract compensation? I took it as giving feedback in the hope that the company would improve their packaging. Another poster has said that Sainsbury’s did exactly that.

Every morning I curse the manufacturers of my gastric resistant aspirin. Press from front and should pop out? Like heck it does.I press then dig all around the tablet until a small sign it is being disturbed appears. Then I add pulling and swearing until enough is seen to drag it from its position( perhaps that is why it is termed “resistant”!.

A similar thing happened to our very elderly neighbour. Her prescription medication is despatched in specific quantities which involves the pharmacist actually cutting through the blister packs to make that quantity up by 4 or 6 tablets. This makes the plastic very sharp obviously and the poor lady sliced all the way down her finger…….being on blood thinners she bled profusely and it required a visit to A&E.

I always use my thumb nail to slice the foil before pressing the tablet out you could do the same with a pair of nail scissors. Good luck with the chemo and the lymphoedema. I had same but now 13yrs ago so keep positive.
