Reminiscing about childhood sweets

Was there a sweet mixture called 'Winter mix', or something similar? I used to like the clove taste. They were little pillow shaped, shiny hard sweets and stripey!

I remember them they were called winter mix and they were lovely. Can’t get them now. I don’t think…

I have never liked liquorice and we were once taken on a school trip to Pontefract to visit the castle and Barrett’s factory. We could sample the products and I was so miffed that it was all liquorice. My favourites were Fruit Salad and Sour Apples.

Does anyone remember butterscotch tablets? I haven't seen them for years.

I loved caramac but think it’s only recently been discontinued. There is a Cadbury version now. Not as crisp or dark.

I had a special way of eating Crunchie bars. Bite the end off then use my tongue to suck out the honeycomb, leaving a hollow chocolate tube. Needed a longer tongue to reach the end. Did anyone else indulge in un-ladylike practices with their confectionery? (No, I'm not talking Mars Bars here!)

Granmarderby as I said earlier, you can still get it in certain shops. I saw it last week. Thought of buying it, but find it too sickly now.

My lovely mum used to make toffee for bonfire night. It was just like Thornton’s. Two trays would be ready for us when we ran home from school. We always had friends with us who knew what a treat we would be having. Happy days.

I have just made toffee apples, my mother's recipe. My craving forced me to do it. Heaven help my teeth, but I have to say that the one I have just finished was exactly like the ones my mother made.
Please do not tell my dentist.

Oooh yes Summerfly a school friends mum used to make it and friend would bring it to school wrapped in foil. She was very popular on those days😀
Also the long lost Mint Cracknel yum. Not going to Australia for it…

Not a childhood reminiscence, but when I was pregnant with our first son, I ate 1/4lb of Clarnico Peppermint Creams almost every day. Crisp sugar coating and a firm white minty filling.
Are they still around?

No wonder dentists are so wealthy!

I think it was called Sherbert Dip Granmarderby10. Another of my favourites. Modern day I am also partial to the fizzy haribo.

I had a lovely childhood friend Jill. Her parents owned a little sweet shop & our formative years consisted of skipping, playing with Barbie dolls and eating lots of sweets. I remember fairy drops, rhubarb & custard chunks, anaiseed -flavoured ribbons, bull-eyes,
traffic-light lollies & crisps with a little bag of salt in them. Happy days. I still think of you Jill.😊

Allira my local cafe sell lots of old fashioned sweets they’re all in jars and they’ve got gobstoppers the size which would choke a horse, I bought flying saucers recently and soor plooms , I just love those old fashioned sweets the cafe has a real variety you won’t get anywhere else near me, I just have to watch I don’t chip my teeth and do my best to sook them to the bitter end

I'm not sure of the spelling but I loved Kali. It was sold in triangular paper bags and came in all different colours
