I think it’s the pretending that I find irritating about Carole Vordeman. The comment about ‘I might have surgery in a couple of years or so”. When it’s quite obvious she’s been having surgery for years.

Nigella I haven’t seen for ages.

And yes, like you, I hate the way films, television etc always seem to portray the older man as having a much younger wfe or girl friend even when they’re supposed to be the same age. Iremeber Sheika Hancock being turned down for the wife in ‘A Year in Provence’ opposite John Thaw - even though they were actually husband and wife in reality- and a much, much younger actress being cast in the role.

They were supposed to be a retired couple. 🤔

I think Carol looks amazing, she’s a bright, well educated woman with strong opinions.

I also like Nigella for similar reasons.

I wouldn’t have cosmetic surgery, though think it’s an interesting topic.

I do admire Dolly Parton and her approach to maintaining her looks but I would be too frightened to have cosmetic surgery.
I used to think that I would like to have a tummy tuck surgery.
then I had actual surgery for health reasons.
Only if I need it for health reasons now.....

Each to their own and if it makes you feel better about yourself even better. But I do find celebrities who deny they have had tweaks very annoying.
"Oh,, it's all down to yoga and a healthy lifestyle" or "I just avoid sunlight on my skin!"

Apparently Misandry (who Knew?) is the equivalent of prejudice against men. Many men have tweaks, surgeries and veneers on teeth. Perhaps we should counter attack.

I think society is still a long way from valuing women for themselves and not judging them so much by their appearance and age. The television stations seem to sideline and retire women at a much younger age than men who seem to go on until they are too crumbly to carry on.

It is the culture of having to stay young and beautiful so that you don't become invisible that makes people like Carol Vorderman and Joan Collins want to embrace eternal youth.

I'm male and had heard of misandry. However, I am of the opinion that women are pulled to bits, metaphorically speaking, far more online and elsewhere, than men are. I would bet my last Rolo that most of those keyboard warriors wouldn't say a single thing to their online targets in real life.

As for the OP ageism towards women is deeply rooted in society in my opinion, but there really is no justification for it.

Of course it's happening big time. An older mans wrinkles can become "interesting" a fascinating face carved in time" but often women its "oh, she's good for her age" 🙄.

This has put me off I Jack Wright unless of course he is going to be bumped of by said Much Younger wife for his dosh. 😉
