Disclaimer: I have nothing against veganism. Each to their own.

I bought this (pictured) in Morrison's a couple of days ago. It's vegan mould and mildew remover! I looked at other products that tackle this job. All have similar ingredients, none of which are derived from animals. I bought this one because it was only £1. The others were much dearer for less product! I'm glad to report that it did an excellent job but really??? Vegan!

tell me, what is the point of being "aware" or "alert" to injustice and we do NOTHING about it?

Lxrl Tue 28-Jan-20 10:04:03

@Nannan2 if something is vegan it is automatically dairy free, there is your answer. Saying both dairy free and vegan is redundant.

Lxrl Tue 28-Jan-20 10:03:14

@Chewbacca that just means they've not been tested on animals, which is better than them being tested on animals... I'm not a vegan but its not rocket science either

Nannan2 Tue 28-Jan-20 10:02:26

And all this stuff for vegans and gluten free is ticking me off cause theres hardly anything to advertise LACTOSE FREE,and theres been a shortage of the products since before xmas of lactose free items in every shop- dairy free too takes a back seat to veganism, even though a dietary requirement should take precedence over a lifestyle choice i thinkhmm( i bet you wish you'd never asked now don't you?!not whilst I'm sleep-deprived?hmm

I know it bothers some meat-eaters when vegetarian products are called something meaty. But what's in your hotdog meat eaters?

'woke' is a political concept. I said this many months ago. You only have to see just how many companies and politicians are intent on being woke. Awful word and awful reactions.

Neilspurgeon0 Tue 28-Jan-20 09:58:43

I rather think that “woke” is supposed to mean what we used to call “with it”. I was in 1967, today life is far too interesting and I am much to busy to bovver wiv that sort of trendy trash, so no, i is unawakened and verra happy to be so.

Yearoff Tue 28-Jan-20 09:54:09

I think veganism is a life choice. No animal products or testing. So vegan shampoo toiletries and cosmetics not tested on animals. I presume the same for cleaning products. This was explained to me by a vegan when I mocked vegan shampoo saying “are you going to be eating that”.

Nannan2 Tue 28-Jan-20 09:53:22

I was 'woke' at 5.50 by a very bad cough, and now im about to try catch up on a bit of sleep theres a blinking load of noise outside by someone either tree cutting or a motorbike revving or some such so im not best pleased!angry

I’m very unwoke nanKate.
It doesn’t seem to be causing me many problems, all the people I talk to are unwoke too.
That’s probably because we are old, you see - I’ve just proved that I am not woke to ageism.

NanKate Tue 28-Jan-20 07:50:34

Thanks for the explanations.. I’m glad I am not the only one who was in the dark about the meaning.

I wonder if I am ‘unwoke’ ?

Calendargirl Tue 28-Jan-20 07:45:20

Why call them meatballs though? In all seriousness, why not call them ‘aubergineballs’ as that is what they are?

BBbevan Tue 28-Jan-20 07:44:44

Yes thank you. Just waiting for my early morning cuppa ?????

craftergran Tue 28-Jan-20 07:41:26

I am just glad someone explained what woke was. I couldnt be bothered looking it up.

kittylester Tue 28-Jan-20 07:26:31

I'm somewhat cheesed (!!!!) off with vegans.

I haven't eaten gluten for years and was enjoying the fact that gf awareness had risen. All of a sudden I find lots of stuff is now gf and vegan which is not the same thing at all.

giulia Tue 28-Jan-20 06:39:05

toscalily The vegetable "meatballs" you saw were probably made with aubergines. My husband makes them and it's true you cannot tell the difference. We are NOT vegans!

toscalily Mon 27-Jan-20 23:29:04

I was in Aldi today and noticed there was a product labeled vegetable "meatballs" grin Also, I woke up this morning and and I'm still awake now reading this!
I find the word 'woke" irritating in the way it is now being used, seems to be popping up all over the place even on Gransnet.

SirChenjin Mon 27-Jan-20 20:27:23

Aldi now do vegan sausage rolls and they’re not half bad

Iam64 Mon 27-Jan-20 20:26:47

Ah vegan sausage rolls - what could possibly go wrong.

Chewbacca Mon 27-Jan-20 20:20:22

Aldi are currently selling vegan make up remover wipes. They're as bad for the environment regarding disposal as the regular ones so not that "woke". It seems to be a fad to slap vegan on anything and it's immediately "better". hmm

SueDonim Mon 27-Jan-20 20:19:40

I don’t think we’re supposed to name names, Iam64, but they were from a well known high street baker that also sells vegan sausage rolls. grin

Iam64 Mon 27-Jan-20 20:04:05

It's a good idea to label food and other items (including sofas as shoes) as vegan. I'm light years away from being vegan but could pass as a vegetarian if I had to. Eat meat 2 or 3 times a week, that's been the case for years.
I do have vegan friends and knowing I could by donuts if they were calling for a cuppa, well that's good

SueDonim Mon 27-Jan-20 19:52:07

I bought two ring donuts recently and they were labelled vegan. I wasn’t bothered one way or another but asked the shop about them. Apparently, they’ve always been vegan but now they label them as such. grin

smile
That sounds like it could be fun. Hope its a 3 seater.

Iam64 Mon 27-Jan-20 18:31:47

MissAdventure, maybe we could organise one of those GN virtual parties, and all eat the sofa
