What time do you get up

Since you retired. I get up between 8.00 and 8.30, but DH always, on the dot, gets up at 6.30, anything later is ‘wasting the day’. I had years of having to get up early for work and am so glad I can relax now.

I’m waking at 3.30 am at the mo and I’m exhausted! I think it’s to do with the clocks changing this weekend it always plays havoc with my body clock.

Shel1951 Fri 23-Oct-26 13:50:52

Around 6.30 but don't get up till 7.00,I read a little, get my thoughts together then up 7.00 sometimes 6.45 if I need to make sandwiches. I enjoy early morning, tbh I wake up around 5 but go back to sleep,

We don’t live together but my partner always gets up at seven so our shared dog expects her breakfast at seven, too. So when she’s with me ( which is most of the time) I have to get up at seven. Which annoys me as he retired when he was 55 so hasn’t worked for nearly twenty years whereas I only retired a few years ago and, not being a morning person relished the thought of not having to get up at seven. I have, however, over the past couple of weeks, managed to persuade her to sleep later.

6.00 - 6.30 in summer, to walk the dogs. Now with darker mornings it’s more like 7.15 - 7.30. Without dogs I’d be more likely to stay in bed till about 8.00.

0645 to 0700, leisurely and frugal breakfast with the paper, then shower. Staying at a hotel, up nearer 0800, and the full English.

Georgesgran Fri 23-Oct-26 13:05:14

Hate the dark mornings too Helter it’s bringing out my inner hedgehog 🦔!

HelterSkelter1 Fri 23-Oct-26 12:50:28

Georgesgran you and your DH had to get up early as did most of us in our younger days.
It's people now, who have no need to get up early and just boast about it as if they were judged to be better than others who did what they want, that annoy me.
Sometimes I am up at crack of dawn and sometimes 9.30/10.00. But it doesn't matter a jot. Likewise if I spend all day cleaning, which I don't, or feet up reading. As you say each to their own.
Don't like the eaely mornings in the dark now though. Summer is best.

Now we’re retired , we wake at 7ish ,One of us goes down to let the dog out and make a cuppa , which we drink in bed watching the news and checking emails . We get up at 8ish to have breakfast and walk the dog .

Depends on whether or not we have GC here that need taking to school/college.

If I have nothing scheduled I get up when I feel like it. DH brings TIB any time between 6.30-8.00am. It’s not unusual for me to go down make toast and a latte and take it back upstairs. I lay on top of the bed unless it’s cold/dismal then I get back in.

I love the freedom of doing me, my way

Georgesgran Fri 23-Oct-26 12:35:42

I think a lot of us become set in our ways and to some degree continue as we were brought up. There was so much cleaning, cooking, gardening and shopping etc to do in the 50/60s, I can remember my Mum feeling guilty to be sitting in the sun for an hour! My Dad was out of the house by 7am six days a week and continued getting up and ready before 7am to the day he died.
DH worked away and just rolled out of bed and walked to his office for 9am, whereas at home, I was up at stupid o’clock to clean out kennels and do a 50mile round trip to take the DDs to school by 9am. In fact, when DH took early retirement, he’d get up 2 hours earlier than when he worked to take over the dog duties.

I don’t think we are martyrs though - each to their own.

HelterSkelter1 Fri 23-Oct-26 12:26:15

I don't miss early mornings scraping the car. In my early 20s I had a Morris Minor and the heater only started to limp into life as I drove into the car park at work. And the office was in a place difficult to get to by bus on time. More than 53 years ago, but I can remember how cold I was...and got up at 6.00.

Oh - don't ask! Just eating breakfast here at 9.50am!!

Yay!! A person after my own heart! 🥳🥳🥳

Depending on how well or badly I’ve slept, any time between around 7.30 and 9.30. After a bad night I often finally go into a deep sleep very late.

Unless there’s something I really need to get up for, in which case I’ll set the alarm to be sure, I’m really not bothered about sleeping late.

crazyH Fri 23-Oct-26 11:16:19

An owl here - never in bed before midnight and never up before 9am

henetha Fri 23-Oct-26 11:06:55

The alarm goes off at 7.45 and I make sure I'm up and with a cup of tea before 8.

GrannyIvy Fri 23-Oct-26 11:04:23

Awake around 6 but like a coffee in bed at 7.30 ish and I then get up anytime between then and 9 am depending what is planned. No set times now I’m retired and DH the same. We read and DD2 always call on her way to work to check in. Lazy gran … I never feel guilty either picking my book up in the day. I worked hard up very early for many years.

SporeRB01 Fri 23-Oct-26 10:54:35

Around 9am to 9:30am. Go to sleep between 12pm to 1am. I only set the alarm and get up earlier if I have an early morning appointment.

I do not like waking up when it is still pitch black outside.

Fallingstar Fri 23-Oct-26 10:42:37

Up at 6 to check on DH, give him meds he needs before brekkie and make us both a cuppa and I stay with him until about 8/8.30 he usually goes back to sleep and I read.

😁 Ditto!

Last night I was trying to finish a book so was reading into the early hours. This morning was rather slow, there is usually no need to rush around early in the mornings now unless I have an appointment or meeting of some kind.

Alwaysoptumistic Fri 23-Oct-26 10:18:11

Late one today, got up just before 10am but didn’t go to bed till gone 1am.
I rarely get up before 9am now I’m retired.
I average 8 hours good sleep each night which for me is the most important thing

BlueBelle Fri 23-Oct-26 10:18:04

6 am same as I always have and probably always will
Go to bed 11 ish sleep till about 2 or 3 am have an hour or so awake then another sleep till 5 or 6 then up, can’t lie in bed never have. Mum and Dad were 6 am people as were my grandparents 🥱

Greyduster Fri 23-Oct-26 10:10:58

Me too Luckygirl! I’ve been awake since silly o’clock but refuse to get up at an ungodly hour. Unless I have any early appointments or an early start to get to an activity, I will sit in bed drinking coffee, answering emails, staring ant Gransnet, until around nine. Even after he retired, DH was always up with the lark (a hangover from his military days) and liked me to be as well. It rarely happened!

Lixy2 Fri 23-Oct-26 10:10:40

Early morning here - the radio alarm goes on for the shipping forecast. Coffee in bed listening to the farming news and the headlines, then up and doing.

Bed by 10pm at the latest.
Years ago I used to go to bed after the 9 o’clock news but the tv schedules changed so now I just potter after 9, getting the breakfast things ready.

There’s no moral high ground about being up earlyish, just the way my body works best.

MiniMoon Fri 23-Oct-26 10:01:47

I've always been a night owl, rarely going g to bed before 11pm, then reading sometimes until 1am. I usually get up around 8:30 - 8:45.
