Since you retired. I get up between 8.00 and 8.30, but DH always, on the dot, gets up at 6.30, anything later is ‘wasting the day’. I had years of having to get up early for work and am so glad I can relax now.

The alarm goes off at 7.45 and I make sure I'm up and with a cup of tea before 8.

An owl here - never in bed before midnight and never up before 9am

Depending on how well or badly I’ve slept, any time between around 7.30 and 9.30. After a bad night I often finally go into a deep sleep very late.

Unless there’s something I really need to get up for, in which case I’ll set the alarm to be sure, I’m really not bothered about sleeping late.

I don't miss early mornings scraping the car. In my early 20s I had a Morris Minor and the heater only started to limp into life as I drove into the car park at work. And the office was in a place difficult to get to by bus on time. More than 53 years ago, but I can remember how cold I was...and got up at 6.00.

I think a lot of us become set in our ways and to some degree continue as we were brought up. There was so much cleaning, cooking, gardening and shopping etc to do in the 50/60s, I can remember my Mum feeling guilty to be sitting in the sun for an hour! My Dad was out of the house by 7am six days a week and continued getting up and ready before 7am to the day he died.
DH worked away and just rolled out of bed and walked to his office for 9am, whereas at home, I was up at stupid o’clock to clean out kennels and do a 50mile round trip to take the DDs to school by 9am. In fact, when DH took early retirement, he’d get up 2 hours earlier than when he worked to take over the dog duties.

I don’t think we are martyrs though - each to their own.

Depends on whether or not we have GC here that need taking to school/college.

If I have nothing scheduled I get up when I feel like it. DH brings TIB any time between 6.30-8.00am. It’s not unusual for me to go down make toast and a latte and take it back upstairs. I lay on top of the bed unless it’s cold/dismal then I get back in.

I love the freedom of doing me, my way

Now we’re retired , we wake at 7ish ,One of us goes down to let the dog out and make a cuppa , which we drink in bed watching the news and checking emails . We get up at 8ish to have breakfast and walk the dog .

Georgesgran you and your DH had to get up early as did most of us in our younger days.
It's people now, who have no need to get up early and just boast about it as if they were judged to be better than others who did what they want, that annoy me.
Sometimes I am up at crack of dawn and sometimes 9.30/10.00. But it doesn't matter a jot. Likewise if I spend all day cleaning, which I don't, or feet up reading. As you say each to their own.
Don't like the eaely mornings in the dark now though. Summer is best.

Hate the dark mornings too Helter it’s bringing out my inner hedgehog 🦔!

0645 to 0700, leisurely and frugal breakfast with the paper, then shower. Staying at a hotel, up nearer 0800, and the full English.

NonnaW Fri 23-Oct-26 13:39:23

6.00 - 6.30 in summer, to walk the dogs. Now with darker mornings it’s more like 7.15 - 7.30. Without dogs I’d be more likely to stay in bed till about 8.00.

We don’t live together but my partner always gets up at seven so our shared dog expects her breakfast at seven, too. So when she’s with me ( which is most of the time) I have to get up at seven. Which annoys me as he retired when he was 55 so hasn’t worked for nearly twenty years whereas I only retired a few years ago and, not being a morning person relished the thought of not having to get up at seven. I have, however, over the past couple of weeks, managed to persuade her to sleep later.

Shel1951 Fri 23-Oct-26 13:50:52

Around 6.30 but don't get up till 7.00,I read a little, get my thoughts together then up 7.00 sometimes 6.45 if I need to make sandwiches. I enjoy early morning, tbh I wake up around 5 but go back to sleep,

Erica23 Fri 23-Oct-26 17:16:01

I’m waking at 3.30 am at the mo and I’m exhausted! I think it’s to do with the clocks changing this weekend it always plays havoc with my body clock.
