Good morning, Michael12 and all!

Lying in bed last night at about 11, with my tiny little brain cogs slowly moving around, I was thinking about people with ''the'' in the middle of their names or titles, such as Conan the Barbarian. So I've come up with a few.

1 - William the Conqueror - Billy the Conk!

2 - Attila the Hun.

3 - Vlad the Impaler.

4 - Edward the Confessor - Eddie the Con!

5 - Elizabeth the Second.

6 - Alfred the Great,

7 - Richard the Third.

8 - Henry the Eighth.

Some of those were great, others not so and others definitely not, but you know the greatest of them all?

Gari the Baldi!

Sorry, just my peculiar sense of humour!

I'm at work waiting for customers to come in, guzzling a cuppa and scoffing a pink sparkly doughnut!

Have a good one!

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. A late one from me here in South Yorkshire - I went to bed at ten and didn’t wake up until ten to nine. I must have been unconscious rather than asleep! Unheard of recently.

Usual here today. Writers group at the library this afternoon, and some shopping.

Have the best day you can, folks.

Georgesgran Wed 14-Oct-26 09:01:27

Just read your latest post MD. Well done - hope the rash can be dealt with, plus the bed and whatever else lies in wait! It never just rains, does it? 😘

Morning all from a blue sky autumn morning in West Oxfordshire.

Well done MaryD!

Laundry, ironing and quilting today.

It is the village local history society tonight. The talk is on a house in the village. A fairly old house with a ‘history’.

I’ve had to book Milo the 16-year old black cat in for an appointment at the Vet next week. His fur has started to come out in clumps. His skin looks ok so we have no idea what’s going on.

Have a good day.

Marydoll Wed 14-Oct-26 08:50:02

Baubles, enjoy your volunteering. I am sorry things are no better.💗

Marydoll Wed 14-Oct-26 08:48:45

Success! A doctor phoned me, didn't want to speak to DH (🤣) just me!!

I suspect that there is an alert on his record. wink
This man cannot be trusted.
He has an appointment late afternoon. I am so relieved.

Gingster Wed 14-Oct-26 08:44:16

Good morning all from a bright looking Essex.

Just had a phone call from the company doing our conservatory roof saying the plasterer won’t be coming as his elderly mother has been rushed into hospital. Hopefully he’ll come tomorrow. 🤞.

Today the usual trip up to town, a wander around the market and a coffee with my pal. We always end up in M and S foodhall buying things we didn’t know we needed. Dh loves the sushi so I’ll get him that.

So sorry Marydoll for all your trials. I know that feeling sometimes of just wanting to ‘run away’. Take care 💐.

I hope all poorlies see some improvement today.

baubles Wed 14-Oct-26 08:31:43

Good morning from South Lanarkshire, there’s no rain at the moment.

Very little sleep last night, mainly due to my family worries which aren’t any better.

I’m going to do a few hours work (unpaid) in our local wool shop today. It’s owned by the daughter in law of one of my yarn group friends who covers a morning a week for her and asked if I’d like to join her. So a different kind of volunteering.

Hope your bruises heal quickly Ash, a rude awakening indeed.

Good luck with the phone call MD

Harri thanks

Have the best day possible everyone.

Gelisa Wed 14-Oct-26 08:19:47

Good Morning from Morecambe Bay where a warm sunny day is forecast. We may take advantage of the weather and head into the Lakes. But first it’s my second shingles jab. I hope it’s ok as I’m still feeling the effects of my flu jab!
We will have to include the purchase of a new kettle at some point into the day as ours decided to give up the ghost last night. We have a kettle for using on the gas in the camper so that was pressed into service this morning.
A quick look on the internet this morning brought my attention to water dispensers rather than a traditional kettle. I must keep up with the times!
Ashcombe can you get any arnica for your bruising?
Take care everyone 🌸

karmalady Wed 14-Oct-26 08:12:44

Grandmabatty I could not cope with such a busy day as you had. In days long gone, I used to have a 20 minute quiet time after lunch, me and the dgc, they had a choice of books and sat on the sofa. It was bliss, I had to stop myself nodding off

monk08 Wed 14-Oct-26 08:11:53

Good morning all from the Black country.
Have overslept and its toddlers this morning, would give it a miss but know that a couple of helpers are already off today.
Will pick up DH prescription on way back and we are out for a meal later.
Must give my younger brother a ring as it's his birthday.
Will catch up with everybody's happenings later.
Have the best day you can everyone whatever your plans, and may the poorlies find some respite.

Grammaretto Wed 14-Oct-26 08:11:45

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. There's a red sky but it looks like quite a nice day.

Your poor neighbour Marzipan. I feel for her.

Sorry about your bruises Ashcombe . I hope you have soothing gel. I seem to remember that French pharmacists are well stocked with herbal remedies. Arnica for bruising.

I have "noted my interest" in the most recent house but won't know for some time as it is newly on the market.

Yesterday was busy again. Starting with the boiler in the granny flat being condemned.
I'm advised to replace it but think I may wait a while as the new owners may want to do major changes and rip everything out.

The rest of the day was spent filling my car and the skip with heaps more stuff.

I managed to post pictures of a bed on gumtree as a freebie and someone will collect it!

Yarn group this morning and community lunch.

I hope you enjoy your break gMattie

Sorry to hear your Dollie is unwell on holiday Marydoll . That's extra rotten. 😟
I hope you manage to have a peaceful, pain free day.

Wishing you all a pleasant day.

Gagagran Wed 14-Oct-26 08:08:33

Good Morning everyone from a clear and dry central south coast. The sun is coming up now so it will soon warm up and be a pleasant day out for DH and his cycling club. They are in the South Downs today with a coffee stop followed by lunch out later.

My lovely cleaners have just arrived and admired my stair lift (which is proving a really good help). Then I shall have a quiet day to catch up with some desk work and will watch "Bakeoff" recording later.

So sorry you have so much to cope with Marydoll. Life for you just isn't playing fair. Hope today is better.

G. Mattie I think there are more of us with "eggshell" DDs amongst the Gransnet community. I am very proud of and love my DD but always feel a slight constraint between us and that isn't there with my DS. Is it Mothers and daughters or just different characters? It makes me sad because I always wanted to be close to her but she doesn't seem to want that.

Well, here's hoping we all manage a good day and enjoy what we can. Take care all.

Grandmabatty Wed 14-Oct-26 08:00:38

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 9° and dry. Marydoll a rude awakening! Changing a wet bed is not the best way to start the day. Ashcombe take things easy today. GrandMattie I hope you enjoy your break.
Yesterday the boys were easy which is not always the case. Tesco duly arrived at 8 and both boys helped unload it which means I don't know where half the stuff has gone. Then I dropped off dgs1 at football camp and rushed back to meet a man who was coming to quote for tidying the garden. He was already waiting and walked round with me. After he left, dgs2 got back in the car and headed to soft play, stopping for petrol on the way. Soft play was heaving and I got the last table. Dgs2 was happy because someone from his class was there and they spent an hour tearing around. Once we went home, he was quiet and played happily by colouring in. When we went to pick up dgs1, the heavens opened and the rain was horrendous. I sat in the car for a little but had to go out in it eventually. The wind was ferocious too. It took 2 people to open the door to the sport's centre. Having claimed dgs1, we headed home to find BT digging up the footpath outside my house, ready for installing full fibre. Then I received the quote from the garden people which I agreed with. Fortunately they can come tomorrow and make my garden tidy again. Dinner for me was also sausage, mash and beans but slightly altered- chicken sausage, sweet potato mash and no sugar baked beans.
Today I'm doing an extra childcare shift. A glutton for punishment! Both the other grandparents have hospital appointments so I offered. I will get the boys at 9, then drop off dgs1 at football camp before taking dgs2 to Hobbycraft for Halloween craft supplies. Hopefully that will keep him occupied for a while. Bt will be back again today. Dinner will be salmon with broccoli. Have a good day all.

Good morning from a brightening northwest coast. I had problems with my iPad at the music club yesterday, the second time it’s happened. Although I had downloaded my accompaniments, for some reason, they wouldn’t play through my Bluetooth. I don’t use a microphone and had already sung two unaccompanied folk songs, but it’s a mystery as I don’t need the unreliable internet at the venue if backings are downloaded. Very frustrating. However, I wasn’t on the desk so that was more relaxing and the donations were generous.

More falling asleep in the chair later on after ironing. It just comes over me, whether I want to or not. In the evening a Pride and Prejudice on YouTube from 1980. I like catching up with these old series I never watched at the time.

There is the usual lunchtime recital today, but I feel weary and my hip bothered me in the night. Opera co. rehearsal with a drive into the city tonight.

Glad no bones broken Ashcombe, have a nice trip Grandmattie, you deserve it, hope your home buying works out well Grammaretto and thoughts to all🌺

Good morning. We shall be travelling home later after brunch in Torquay. We have had a lovely few days and
I am now known as the chicken whisperer.
Our friends have four chickens, two of which they thought should be of an age to lay but haven’t.
I said I’d have a word with them.
Hey presto! , yesterday two eggs duly deposited and hopefully they will carry on.
Wishing all a good day with a smile along the way.

Liberty Wed 14-Oct-26 07:56:14

A quick good morning from a bright but chilly Suffolk where I’ll be spending the morning on a Teams meeting. I’m ok with this as long as the technology works as I’ve no idea what to do if it doesn’t!

I’m waiting to hear from a friend what time she wants to meet up for a cup of tea this afternoon which will probably also involve a walk as I’ll miss the morning dog one and my keep fit class.

I’ll read your posts now before logging on to the laptop and hope today is a good one for all with pains easing for those suffering and worries too.

dragonfly46 Wed 14-Oct-26 07:48:31

Good morning from a brightening Leicestershire.

I too got a full line of washing dry yesterday.
Annoyingly having put out three bags for Air Ambulance they didn’t turn up.

Today the car is going in for service. I will get the bus home.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

BlueSapphire Wed 14-Oct-26 07:45:09

Good morning everyone from a clear-skied Northampton, just glanced at the forecast and it will be sunny so have just started the washing machine.

Yesterday was glorious, got the towels dry, and really enjoyed my walk. An excellent turn out, and also afterwards we had celebratory cake, as it was our 8th anniversary.

Starting to get a few things together for my holiday, just got my medication sorted, and made a list of things I must not forget, such as passport, chargers etc.

No plans for today apart from another two loads of was and more holiday prep.

Wishing all a pleasant Wednesday.

brook2704 Wed 14-Oct-26 07:43:52

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s just getting light, it looks dry at the moment but there’s wind and rain in the forecast
Enjoy the time away with your DD gMattie and hope all goes well, I do understand the eggshell feeling
Marydoll hope you DH’s rash is sorted soon and your day improves too, sorry to hear about Dollie being poorly on holiday
We’ve another busy day ahead with the dgc, they’re not really wanting to go out anywhere so we’ll stay in, play a few games, carry on with the big jigsaw that’s all over the dining table and do a bit of cooking etc. The puppy will have a run around the garden and we’ll take her out for a walk in the woods at the back of the house. At the moment it’s all quiet so I’m enjoying the quietness and TIB before everyone is up and the busyness begins
Harrigran 💐
Hoping everyone has the best day they can, take care all

Marydoll Wed 14-Oct-26 07:41:20

After realising DH hadn't changed his email address and dealing with that, Engage isn't working, I am going to have to battle on the phone! 😭

RosesandLilac Wed 14-Oct-26 07:40:45

Good morning, it’s mainly clear and dry here with a pink tinge to the few small clouds over my hillside in south Glos. I slept very well after my efforts in the garden yesterday- I’ve done two thirds of the borders with mulch. My garden is small but it was hard work heaving the bags (60l) around.
I will finish doing it today and get the back borders done too, I think I have enough to go round.
I spent the afternoon knitting the first sock while watching a house restoration programme on iPlayer, very easy viewing.
So, more in the garden today is the plan.
I hope you have a lovely time away grandMattie, the weather looks good.
Oh Marydoll, it’s one thing after another isn’t it? 🥺 I truly feel your frustration and sadness 🤗
I hope your bruises heal quickly Ashcombe.
Best wishes to you all x
🌹

Good morning Mick and everyone from Carlisle where it is a tad chilly and the skies look fairly clear.

Yesterday I did an e consult, the result of which was simply a text message to say the doc had sent a prescription over to the chemist for more antibiotics. I duly went into town to collect them and took the opportunity to get a few items from M&S food hall. Back home to a bit of housework and admin.
Definitely no gardening, the weather, which had been pleasant in the morning, deteriorated into a grey afternoon of wind and frequent, vicious showers.

Today, some vital admin follows and then I may run the vac around and clean the ensuite. The weather forecast is dire, gales are due apparently...just the thought stresses me out.

I think I'll pick out one of Amazon's free potboilers on my Kindle and close the blinds!

Do have a good day everyone if you can.

Jaxjacky Wed 14-Oct-26 07:31:57

Morning, dry and 7 in S Hants, some housework yesterday, couple of phone calls and an early evening pub visit.
Caught up with a couple of friends and their news.
Library today, chicken and sweet potato curry tonight.
Glad you’re not suffering too much Ashcombe.

Good morning Michael and all GN's from a very dark , still North Yorkshire. I have finally made it, am having a rough morning with aches and pains everywhere and a job to move about. Whatever I thought I might plan for today has gone out of the window in favour of "just do whatever I can"as the plan for the day. There is no flipping rime or reason , and I am unfortunately adding painful hands, a neck that feels as though I have slept on it twisted and you get the picture!
Ah well just have to hope that things improve but definitely have to go for any assistance today so painkillers and shower will be the order of the day.

Yesterday was a mixed day but ended mostly with a positive outcome, except that as the day stayed dry and became quite warm, I wished that I had ignored the forecast for rain and stuck some washing in as the wind really blew and anyone who got their washing out , would have got it all dry and smelling beautiful.

I started by ordinary mundane jobs clearing up whilst I spent what seemed forever trying yet again to contact anyone in the hospital about my eye. Having dulcet tones of a recording regretting that the lines were busy and asking me to leave a message or ring later, did not help matters. I would have almost preferred a rough voice saying Hard luck try again!!I actually finally got through to the secretary about 4pm, explaining the situation, asking if I could be treated locally and was ready with pen and notebook to make sure I had got the correct information written down. No, she said she had no information about me from the specialist and that all she could say was that yes I would be able to be seen locally, but that she could do nothing more, until she had spoken to the consultant and found out what was planned for me. So all my getting ready for whatever was to come was wasted, and I came off the phone feeling I had done 5 rounds with Mohamed Ali, as I felt all the tension in my body. Probably the reason I am struggling today.

This was also made worse, as I had planned to ring my brother to wish him Happy Birthday, as didnt think his card would have got there in time. but as I was out last night didnt even do that. I had started the day, tidying up a bit, putting things away and giving the kitchen a cleaning and tidying, whilst making a shopping list and getting my prescription filled out ready to put into the box for repeats at the surgery.

It had rained a bit earlier and felt cold and I had thought that I might go in the car, but the sun came out , and so it was yp, with mac tucked in the bag as a precaution. Arriving at the doctors, someone had put a couple of notice boards close to the box and it would have meant getting off to post my list, and struggling to get back on, but fortunately a lady came in to do the same and I was able to ask her to put mine in too, which she kindly did, so after making yet another effort to get the hospital on the phone I gave up on that front and carried on in shopping mode. The wind was wild by this time, with various debris swirling around and having to watch out for dancing empty dustbins as I went. Regretting that I hadnt got washing in before I left, I did at least do quite well with shopping and ended up in Tesco actually finding a couple of things that I had wanted but had been out of stock for ages, however the pataks lime pickle was nowhere to be seen, so put a star beside it on the list to remind me to look elsewhere. Dont use a lot of it, but it does add something to my curries. Came home and continued sorting things out whilst continuing to try and raise someone at the hospital, which finally about 4,15pm I did at least get the secretary. After that I felt in need of getting out for a little while, rang a friend Janet, but she was already out with her dog at a different field to normal at the other end of town. The wind made it hard to hear her, so I decided that I would still go out for a little, and quite enjoyed being on the yellow peril in the wild wind. Came home, got something to eat and tidied myself up and got ready for the games night. Decided that the car would be safer in the wild wind and got there in good time. Very quiet in the pub and no loud football on, so our group was the largest there and we were able to hear what everyone was saying without shouting.

There were only 6 of us there , quite a poor turn out for our usual gang, so we had to play two 3 people games. In my group we played a game that I have played before , and so I was able to remember some of the rules and it was good to play it as it allowed me to remind myself of the rules and start to see more of the complicated possibilities compared to just being glad to get my go sorted. Nothing exciting but hopefully the next time we play it I will be less of a slowcoach. I was glad to get my brain thinking of something other than the hospital and my eye and what arrangements needed to be made. Just sitting down without something else to get my teeth into doesnt work, so that helped quite a bit. I have decided to sell a couple of things so have an old small dollspram and a biggish dolls house, which in times past I had enjoyed looking at all the very old and interesting furniture and things, but want to pass it on to someone who will do something with it, and get a bit more space. One of the players who is very on the ball with the internet and her phone etc., has kindly said she will come round and take photos etc for me to put it onto her market thing, so that will be very good on two levels. One I will definitely have to tidy up more before she comes and hopefully will get rid of these items, but I also plan to study closely how and what she does so that I learn how to do such things for the future. Well that is the plan anyway! I know that this winter I must pull my socks up and become more efficient at using my phone for more than text and phone calls. But I find it so much easier to use my laptop as I can touch type and not even have to think where my fingers are, whilst using the phone is very frustrating as it constantly freezes as I am too fast, or I get the wrong key as it is so awkward to use, and I have to pay attention to it too. I came home, pleased to have got my brain thinking of something other than the hospital and watched Downton as a wayto kep my mind away from other things and then to bed .

There is a bit more light now, and I can see the tree against the sky, very little wind, no sign of squirrels yet. Just heard a lovely Debussy piece after my beloved J S Bach, so feeling better for that and now is time to creak my way to the kettle and then the shower. It is market day so will go down on the yp for a few veg and bits and pieces, but then I think the best I can hope for is to finally come to the end of the ironing, followed by some paperwork. I picked up some venison from the reduced box so I think I shall also get some casserole made up today. It will be a nice change and suitable for a chilly day with maybe a jacket potato and must get more apples stewed so hopefully will be succesful with the mundane jobs before going tonight to whist, so the day is more or less mapped out, and I will give him time to get up and going before ringing my brother and catching up with news and views from the family their end . Plan to try and get my son and see if we can arrange a possible meet up on saturday. Bit of a short notice but might work. Would love to do a bit of tidying in the garden, but am not stupid enough to attempt it at the moment.

Hope you have a good trip in on the bus and get to see some cycling Michael. Hope all goes well today at the cafe and you get everything done ready for your trip with your Dd GrandMattie. I will get myself going and then come back to read all the posts whilst I have something to eat. Having a change of cereal, as Weetabix seemed to be getting lighter and breaking up easily, and Tesco had quite a good offer on a large box of Shreddies, which I do like, but are usually quite pricy, so that will be a pleasant change. Not quite got to the porridge stage yet, as to me that means I accept it is getting towards winter!

May you all have a good day, with something successful, whether it is getting in touch with some elusive person or getting to the end of a job. Wishing you all a happy day and a chance to be in touch with loved ones wherever they may be.
