Anyone do these

I have moments when I need to unwind and sometimes do these on my phone.

What I would like is a nice wooden puzzle with an art theme.

Any recommendations?

There are some if you look online but they're very expensive in comparison to those made of board. They don't seem to have many pieces either, usually 250 or 500.
Wentworth, Victory, there are others.

Ones from British firms on good board are fine, but beware cheaper ones from Amazon etc as they can be very flimsy, as I found when I gave one to DH one Christmas.

Figured 'Art do wooden jigsaws for adults. My daughter has one which she has kept on display. It seems very good quality and she said they were quite reasonable compared to other companies.

We did a lot in lockdown. Our most difficult was one of Hokusai’s The Great Wave . Took both of use nearly three weeks

I love jigsaws- mostly good quality board ones. The only wooden ones I've done are Wentworth- quite expensive and also difficult as pieces are funny shapes.
Just got a present in post from daughter, who bought one using Vinted. I've also found nice jigsaws in charity shops or parish sales.

Do you use a board? I would need to do it on my lap as so much surface space is taken up with my art materials.

I love jigsaw puzzles. Just finished the latest one. Buy most on eBay. If you use that would be worth doing a search for Wentworth Puzzles, they are wood. Only ever done a very small one, really weirdly shaped pieces.
I use a board on a camping table. Wouldn’t be able to do them on my lap, my back would totally give up the ghost.

I use a board with edges my OH made, which holds a standard 1000 piece puzzle. Also have smaller board for smaller jigsaws. I can put on coffee table and sometimes pull forward so half on knees (have to be careful!)

I'm a puzzle addict and love both wooden and cardboard puzzles. I tend to stick to the cardboard puzzles as I go for the image, not the material, and the wooden puzzles aren't cheap.

If you're really interested in wooden puzzles, take a look at The Benevolent Confraternity of Dissectologists (don't be put off by the name). They have meet-ups, face-to-face and online, they research puzzles and have many puzzles for sale at their 'conference', some not so expensive at all.

I am never without a jigsaw I love doing them, I only do 1000 piece ones and buy them from charity shops at £2 a pop As soon as I finish one I take a photo and start another I have an edged board my dad made me many years ago.

BlueBelle Wed 07-Oct-26 13:52:36

I do them on the floor and can easily slide the board behind the sofa if anyone is coming

DH and I usually eat in the kitchen. The ,empty large dining table is excellent for undisturbed jigsaws

I bought DH a puzzle felt mat. You're supposed to be able to roll it up and it keeps the partially completed puzzle intact.
He didn't get on with it so it was a waste of money.

Some puzzle boards are on a tilt so there would be room for other things underneath.

Taking a photo is a great idea. I must remember to start doing that to prevent further embarrassment!

I bought a charity shop jigsaw a month ago, not realising until I started doing it that I had actually done that exact same jigsaw (well, same picture anyway) at some time in the last five or so years.

What is really embarrassing that that after picking my next jigsaw, I suddenly realized after starting it that I had made the same mistake again - it was another jigsaw that I'd done before.

I admitted my first mistake to OH, but Im not telling him that I've done it again blush

I have two things that I can do 1000 piece jigsaws on and move them around as necessary. One is my large craft cutting mat. It is flexible, but I can still move it from room to room with a half-finished jigsaw on it. The other is a large whiteboard.
But I couldn't use either of them on my lap.

Over summer though, I used a little picnic table outside in my little summerhouse (when it wasn't too hot).

I love jigsaws but only do them online. So many to choose from and you can choose how many pieces you want.
I do them on iPad.

I am not sure if you can get hold of them in the UK, but I have heard of a very unique jigsaw puzzle company called Odd Pieces. The front of the box depicts a scene from a story that is included in the box. The actual puzzle depicts a scene that occurs a few seconds AFTER the one on the box - so it is a surprise!

I finnd the ones online a bit to easy as the pieces can only go one way up. Or are there ones thst are different?

These puzzles are called Wasjig here. I have a few and they are very good fun.

Love Jigsaws prefer 500 piece ones to 1000. I have been through loads of boxes of 4 Gibson ones. I love retro ones like retros sweets or food. Also like book spine and postcard jigsaws. The most unusual and querky jigsaws I have found are from Waterstones they have a good mix of choices.

Granless Thu 08-Oct-26 13:52:55

I too love jigsaws. WASGIJ (jigsaw backwards, got it?) is the only jigsaw I tend to do these days - I find the conventional ones boring.

Grandmotherto8 Thu 08-Oct-26 14:15:00

Go on Vinted, there are dozens of wonderful 'new with tags' jigsaws for bargain prices. Remember always offer a slightly lower price!

Wheniwasyourage Thu 08-Oct-26 15:21:52

I love jigsaws too and do them on the dining table with a heat mat and a cloth which can cover them if we should want to use the table. That was a tip from a GN poster, but I'm afraid I've forgotten who it was.

I like the Wasgij ones too, and other cartoon ones like Jan van Haasteren's, rather than just photos. Charity shops are indeed a very good source.

The Hokusai Great Wave one has always tempted me, JamesandJon33, but if it's that difficult I might not use my Waterstones Plus points on it!
