Good morning, it’s been raining here on the hillside in south Glos at last! I’m not convinced that we’ve had much but any is very welcome 🙏.
I finished my garden tidying yesterday, very happy with my efforts. I sorted out my plant pots etc, covered the potting table and mini greenhouse and all’s done bar the mulching.
I have ordered mulch that will be delivered on Monday so once that’s done there’s just the occasional pruning to do and brushing up the leaves in due time.
The washing dried outside despite it not being a promising forecast, always a bonus.
Today I intend to do some art work, I need to stop procrastinating (one thing I am excellent at!) and just get on with it.
I need to start a pair of socks I promised I’d make for a friend, I have the wool etc so that’s something else to do too.
I hope that you have a good day x

Good morning from Bristol. It’s dark and wet here too. I think there’s been light rain all night as the puddles are large.
After months of light/no work on the estate, especially on the rotten bay windows, the surveyor has started to come almost daily to check the work needed/being done! So perhaps my pessimistic prediction of scaffolding coming down at Easter won’t happen. It might even be before Christmas! 👏👏👏👏. Things are happening at last! And the clearing of the ex-manager’s slummish house and garden is also starting; and, with any luck, the cost will be borne by the management, not the residents!
I had a nice walk in the autumn sunshine, to my Spanish class 1.5 miles away. We had a lot of discussion on one of Isabel Allende’s short story, then role playing on putting questions to the “colonel” (role taken by a few random students chosen by the tutor) in the style of various publications. The questions ranged from silly to quite interesting, and was very funny indeed!
I got a lift halfway home and, serendipitously, got a bus immediately, the rest of the way home. Normally an easy walk, but I’m tired after the class.
I made some biscuits after lunch, following a new recipe. I don’t think I’ll make them again, they are very boring in flavour.
FAB cafe this morning; I may or may not go to morning prayers first. I hope the attendance is better than the 6 who came on Saturday!
I hope everyone’s day pans out as they would wish. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good morning Michael and all GNs on a cold dark morning in North Yorkshire, I have been awake since about 3am and tried to get back to sleep but in a lot of pain and so gave up and got up about 4am.I have got the sound of waves and the sea on at the moment which is at least soothing to listen too and doesnt disturb anyone else.

Yesterday, I made some progress but oh so slow. Frustration level very high, as my back didnt improve at all all day and it just seemed such a wretched battle to do the least thing. I was still hunting for some paperwork and so did make quite a satisfying inroad to papers and got into efficient mode, putting things onto the calendar and into the diary, so as to get myself up to date with appointments etc. I also used my rather grumpy weary state of mind to pen various emails to people such as Tesco, where in my local shop they have changed 3 checkouts to this wretched selfservice, which is no good for me and so now these three checkouts are hardly used at all in the week time and the bored staff member who has to hang around supposedly being there to help people to use the new checkouts, was somewhat fed up. So I have sent to their head office, with my disapproval of their new idea, and that they are not even able to be switched between the two versions. meaning that for those of us unable to use them, we are stuck waiting in longer queues for the few checkouts available to us. I am sorry for the checkout staff as people are moaning at them and they can do nothing about it. They dont want them either of course because it is just a way of getting us the customers to do their work for them. Well I have a cunning plan as Baldric says. I have decided that if nothing improves I will choose my time and go and use these new checkouts. As I have difficulty loading things easily onto the top anyway and now will have to do that , then put it through the scanner and then load it up into my bags, I will be quite a long time and should make quite a hold up. I am even thinking of getting a friend to do the same and mentioning it to the local paper , where we might get quite a bit of publicity. However that is just a possible idea, not going to do it yet.

I had an irritating few minutes getting ready to go out, when whatever I needed seemed to have either disappeared or fallen on the floor, and the grabber wasnt working well either, perhaps it has come to the end of its life and I need another.

Anyway I did finally get going and called in at Upfront , where I was able to show the article about funds being available from a housing group for charity and the lady took a photo of it, so that I kept the original, and was going to make sure that those involved in asking for supports for different things that we do there got it and hopefully it will lead to a bit of help for some of the things we do, and she had not seen it and said no one else had mentioned it, so I did feel that at least one thing I had done that day was worthwhile. I then delivered a sample to the doctors, and went on to the library, and very annoyingly , after the usual hassle to get into the library found my reading glasses missing from my bag, which was very irritating, and just showed how I am struggling at the moment, as normally checking my bag for keys and glasses are the last thing I do before leaving.. Anyway after doing a few more jobs, I got myself ready and off to the games night. It had been raining that fine rain "mizzling" we call it, where there is little to see but it soaks in ,so should improve the garden, but meant that I had to go in the car. It was good to see the group, with a few people missing, and I had to concentrate on a complicated game, which as I hadnt been for a few weeks, ended up putting my head in a spin. I started well with the simple if this then that, but eventually my back was hurting so much and I wasnt making much sense of my goes, and when someone came in late, I took the opportunity to bow out and give them my place and go home. My back was so painful that I just went to lie down and watched Downton Abbey, a good thing to keep my mind off things like my eye situation.

I found the letter about my eye, but put it to one side to read this morning, as I knew if I looked at it last night the ideas would be going round and round inmy brain, but today I must grasp the nettle and once I have all the facts in front of me, I hope I shall have a clear idea of what I need to do next. Oh what a pity we cannot just take an eye out and leave it for them to deal with and come back later!!

So this morning I need to do at least a bit of ironing, which as it is quite cold is quite a warming job to do, and it is always cheering to see a pile of clean and ironed things at the ready. I managed togo through a few more clothes yesterday too, so did feel I had made an effort, but oh there is still so much to do.

Today I will start by clearing up more bits and pieces, need to ferret in my files and check when the MOT is due, have another look at bus timetables to think of meeting my son and family and have a tidy up. This afternoon I am going to Strikes,to meet a friend in the cafe, and they have sent an offer of 10% of plants , so of course I need to have an enjoyable time searching through the plants - that is if I think 10% of too much is still not too much!! Nothing set up for tonight, so hope for a bit of piece tonight.

Hope you have a good trip in on the bus and enjoy your cycling Mick, and that the other lucky GN's who are still fast asleep get up to a good day. Wearily yours !

Good morning from Herefordshire. It is raining here too. When it is light I will take a short walk, hoping to smell the rain. I remember as a child regularly experiencing that fresh scent yet it rarely happens now.

Today's plan is to get some life admin out of the way before working on my knitted nativity scene. I need to plan its progress between now and December otherwise I might not get it finished. I am easily distracted by other craft projects unless I plan!

Happy Wednesday all.

Good morning from Sheffield
I’m awake early today. Not through choice. Hubby is having to have carpel tunnel surgery on both hands. Until then he is in quite a lot of pain in the night. He couldn’t find the stronger pain relief at 4 this morning . Him looking for it woke me up and then I was awake for the day.
I am having lunch at a friends with some other friends that I haven’t seen for a while so I’m looking forward to that. Then this evening we are going to see a comedian that we both like. Should be good

Take care everyone flowers

Usedtobeblonde Wed 07-Oct-26 06:33:00

Good morning from a dark, damp Stockport.
I haven’t been well for a couple of days but feel somewhat better this morning.
I had to cancel meeting up with FGT which was very disappointing for me but we shall rearrange soon.

I slept most of Monday and last evening I had an early tea and the next thing I knew it was 7:30pm so I just came straight to bed and I don’t feel so fatigued today.

I shall visit my neighbour as usual this afternoon,
the laundry I should have dealt with on Monday is still looking reproachfully at me from the basket so I must decide if that gets done or waits until tomorrow .
First thing after breakfast must be shower and hair wash.

I hope your days prove more exciting than mine are at present.

kittylester Wed 07-Oct-26 06:43:25

Good morning all from a still dry North Leicestershire. Hope that changes.

Exciting day in prospect - it doesn't take much at the moment. Our cleaner should arrive at 9 by which time DH will be at the gym. At some point we expect scaffolders here as the roof men are due on Friday. And I need to go and buy new baking trays and wooden spoons.

Have the best day possible everyone.

ginny Wed 07-Oct-26 06:44:28

Good morning. As nice as our neighbours are, they don’t seem to be able to go out early without Mali’s noise and waking me up. Hence this early ( for me) post.
I have a cake and millionaires shortbread to make this morning. This afternoon is craft club but some else is leading the project.
WI this evening but I can’t remember who the speaker is.
Wishing all a good day and thoughts with all who have worries or illness to deal with.

ginny Wed 07-Oct-26 06:57:27

Maii’s = making.
Just started raining heavily here.

karmalady Wed 07-Oct-26 06:59:47

Good morning from s somerset, we have had a fair bit of rain and there is more to come for the rest of the week. Bit by bit is good, gives it a chance to soak in

My dress is finished, it was a new pattern, very easy and I am happy with it. I have just cut it out again but shorter, in a better fabric for autumn, a Japanese double gauze, only 104" wide. I had to jiggle the positioning and used every scrap

I will be quietly active today, mainly to do with sewing, I have a lot of bias binding to make for starters. Some kitchen stuff to do and bathrooms to clean

Redcar Wed 07-Oct-26 07:10:29

Good morning from mid Essex. It’s cloudy, slightly misty and very mild at 14 degrees. A wet day is forecast and will be welcome, although I’m off to Hyde Hall RHS gardens to meet friends for coffee and a dry drive would be nice! I must check the roads as I know there are some closures on my way there.

I cut the grass and raked up some moss yesterday, hoping to encourage the rain to soak in. I’m thinking I’ll have to reseed most of what was the lawn, it looks awful at the moment.

utbb I’m pleased you’re feeling a little better today and hope the improvement continues.

Thinking of all who are struggling with life’s challenges at the moment and hoping that life gets easier for you.

Safe travels for anyone on the move today and happy holidays for those who are going away soon.

Have the best day possible everyone.

brook2704 Wed 07-Oct-26 07:25:09

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s just getting light, it looks cloudy and dry.
Hoping all goes well for your DH today melanie
I’ve a quick volunteering session online this morning and then off to the gym afterwards. It was good to catch up with pals there yesterday, hopefully more of the same today. I’ll be in this afternoon and then off out line dancing this evening
Good to hear you’re feeling a bit better uttb
Hoping everyone has the best day they can, take care all 💐

Gingster Wed 07-Oct-26 07:25:21

Good morning all and it’s Misty and damp out there.
Much as I’ve prayed for rain, it’s come at a bad time as my conservatory roof is being replaced.
They’ve worked hard for two days, knowing the rain was coming, so we have the frame and insulation up. 🤞. I expect by the time they leave today, it will be waterproof.,

Today I’ll go up to town and meet my pal for coffee, Dd might join us as she’s taking her little pooch to be groomed and will have a spare hour or so.

We’re still trying to get DH’s premium bonds topped up - it’s taken at least two months, filling in forms, telephone calls an on line. On Sunday I thought we were there until we wanted to transfer money and they said the Bank was unavailable for this service. 😡. I’ll try again today.

I hope your struggles ease a bit today Madeleine. 💐.
Glad you’re feeling better Utbb.

Take care all and enjoy the rain. ☔️

Marzipan22 Wed 07-Oct-26 07:25:35

Good morning from a calm, dark, dry, Cornwall. Please send some of your rain our way!

Changed my plan as I arrived at the station yesterday and went to Totnes for the day. It's full of independent shops and so many interesting charity shops and cafés. It's a pretty place but I'm always drawn to back streets (sounds a bit dodgy 😬) looking for things to photograph. I do like a nice bit of weathered paintwork as you can see. 😃

There was just too much choice in the charity shops (and also some big prices) so I simply came home with four huge red pears from a greengrocer's stall plus a wodge of brie. It was good to have a change of scenery, though I appreciate that I'm thoroughly spoilt living in Cornwall.

Today I have to parcel up and send a present to my daughter, then make hummus from butter beans which I'll take to my mid-week Bible study/chat/lunch group.

Gingster Wed 07-Oct-26 07:28:42

Redcar our builders come from Halstead and say the A12 hasn’t been a problem this week, so hopefully you’ll be ok on that dratted road .
Enjoy Hyde Hall. 🪴

Jaxjacky Wed 07-Oct-26 07:29:53

Morning from a wet S Hants, haven’t said that for a long time.
Not a good night with my tooth, or lack of, so I’ll wish you all a pleasant day.

dragonfly46 Wed 07-Oct-26 07:33:40

Good morning from a damp Leicestershire. It has rained here kitty.

Today they are coming to treat my lawn. I raked it after Pilates yesterday and so now I am aching!

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

Greyduster Wed 07-Oct-26 07:39:34

Good morning Michael and all GNs from a very wet South Yorkshire. The rain is most welcome.

I felt very under the weather last night and I wonder if it’s a hangover from my flu jab, which doesn’t usually affect me. I’ll see how I feel when I get up, but may give writers group a miss today. Not much of interest yesterday. My reading group were a bit of a slog. They all seemed tired. Perhaps big school is taking its toll after reception.

I was pleased to learn from the dealership yesterday that my Mini will not need a service this year, which is going to save me some money. I’d forgotten that service intervals are two yearly and the car will tell me when it’s due. My neighbour gave me the name of a good local garage that will carry out the MOT and it’s near enough for me to walk there, leave the car and walk back, though he said he’d be pleased to give me a lift if I needed one.

Have the best day you can, folks.

hollysteers Wed 07-Oct-26 07:44:07

Good morning from a dull northwest coast. Music club yesterday and I was on the desk. My songs a bit croaky, but it was a good session.

I watched a Hardy Wessex tale from the 70s in the evening which I found devastating. As usual, Hardy not one for a happy ending…

My hip ached in the night, so a bit of tossing and turning. I was dreaming about a fall out with Catherine, Princess of Wales. I was apologising and it was getting really interesting when the cat jumped on me.
It was over whether or not to go out for a meal and she had not wanted to as flying somewhere later.
“Don’t worry” I said, bitterly “I’ll just bring some sandwiches wrapped in brown paper”😁

My bedroom and porch are being measured up for redecoration today and I have a rehearsal tonight.

Thoughts to all poorlies and those with worries of any kind🌺

kittylester Wed 07-Oct-26 07:46:50

It is raining here now, dragonfly.

Marzipan22 Wed 07-Oct-26 07:49:52

You've set me off coughing with laughing at your dream hollysteers. 😃

Ashcombe Wed 07-Oct-26 07:50:55

Good morning from a wet corner of La Sarthe where the rain is very welcome as we have drought restrictions in place.

We have slept late (France being an hour ahead) as I think the travelling has caught up with us. Perry 🐈 was pleased to be home but hasn’t appeared yet this morning. No doubt he has found a cosy corner in the barn.

I hope you continue to feel better, Usedtobeblonde and that your DH’s surgery goes to plan, Melanie.

I have fond memories of visiting Totnes in the days when I could walk better, Marzipan. I love all the individual shops there.

Happy hump day, everyone! 🦩💐🦩🥰🦩

Grandmabatty Wed 07-Oct-26 07:54:08

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently a chilly 4° and dry with a hazy blue sky. The living roomwindow has quite a layer of condensationon it. I think its time to dig out the dehumidifier. Jaxjacky I'm sorry you had a bad night. It's rotten.
Yesterday i had my diabetic review which was not good news. My blood sugars are horrifically high. They have come down since last year but not by enough. The practice nurse was talking about insulin which I'm resisting at the moment. However I think it is in my future. I've to go back in 4 weeks and she's given me a lot of information home to read, as well as additional medication. I gave dd all the food I shouldn't buy. I will cut out potatoes and cut down bread. Last night was a painful night for me too, jaxjacky and therefore a disturbed sleep.
Today I will have porridge for breakfast which is allowable. Then I shall head to the school library to work. Once home, I have some deliveries coming with Christmas presents. I will potter about and find things to do. Have a good day all.

Liberty Wed 07-Oct-26 07:56:49

Good morning from a dry and sunny Suffolk where rain, which we so desperately need,is forecast later. I see that has changed overnight to ‘Mist’ so I’m hoping it changes back.

I have my Keep Fit class in just over an hour and then coffee afterwards with 3 friends from the class. We usually go to the Adnams cafe and get a discount as 1 friend has shares in the business. It’s always a good chance to catch up on what’s happening in their lives and locally as well as lots of laughs.

Hope those not feeling their best have a better day.
