I remember the drone of bombers during WW2 and the anxiety of the grown-ups as they watched the planes.
I remember pikelets being toasted over the fire on a long toasting fork whilst the Ink Spots were singing on the wireless.
I remember seeing my father for the first time when he returned from the war in the spring of 1945.
I remember the air raid shelter opposite our house and I remember the day it was knocked down when the war was over.

Ditto to bomb damage. I remember seeing it everywhere (S London) in the 50s - and in summer, rose bay willow herb growing all over it.

Played on the bomb sites, made toast on a fork by the fire, coalman sacks on horse and cart also milkman with a horse. Black Maria i did live in a tough area and calling all our neighbours spivs 3

We had gramophone records of the Inkspots, they were very heavy.

I remember Radiograms
I was the youngest of 9 children . One of my older brothers , who was in the merchant navy, bought this for my parents. It was encased in a teak cabinet - it was a piece of furniture in itself.

Quite a few of these! Plus a gent coming round on his bike which featured a knife sharpener, also on a bike the French gentleman with strings of onions.

Coalman delivering sacks of coal of his horse and cart along the alleyway, nd folk moving their washing from the lines strung across the alley, so it didnt get mucky.

Ration books, long queues outside co op . cheese cut with a wire. biscuits sold by weight ( 1/2 lb ). making slides in winter when it had been snowing.

Learning to count using an abacus by French nuns at a nursery school in Egypt.

Sugar in blue bags! And bacon being sliced for you at the old grocer’s shop.
Also, re younger siblings, big tins of National Dried Milk, not to mention cod liver oil 🤮, but also the bottles of ‘orange juice’ with blue tops. 😋
