Good Morning Everyone,
A dark but wet start to the day here in brackley this morning.
Todays plan a early bus to Bicester , have a coffee and a snack , maybe a beer as ell , before a shop and hopefully cat to those I know.
Watch the Tour of Spain on TV , my health is OK.
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning from a damp Bristol. It has rained a little in the night and we are set for a moist morning.
Yesterday was (sort of) quiet. A quick Tesco shop, the home for the crest of the day.
The last of the scaffolding was put up around my flat, one pole about 2 feet from the exact middle of my front door! Considering that he painting etc., started at the end of April and was due to take “10-12 weeks”, with everything signed off last Friday, the residents are not happy. At least, the vocal ones aren’t. The rest are content to grumble but do absolutely nothing about it.
I’m joining three other residents this afternoon to assess what has/hasn’t been done and report back to the management: whether “they” will take any notice is quite another story.
After that, I’ve got a meeting of the local old age charities, advisory group.
I hope madeleine’s” leg improves, that *fgt’s tummy bug doesn’t spoil her little jaunt, and that everyone else has a good day.

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is still dark and I’ve been awake since twenty to two😩! All attempts to get back to sleep have failed and then you pass the point of no return where you’re afraid to drop off. I have an early chiropractor appointment this morning which entails a drive, so I couldn’t risk oversleeping.

Yesterday I went and ordered a new fridge. It’s basically the same make and model as the one it’s replacing but really not as well made and I’ll be lucky if it lasts as long - though having said that, at my age it could outlast me!

This afternoon I am back at school with a new cohort of Year3 readers. I hope they’ll be kind to me😂! Mind you, I might be asleep with my head on the desk by two o’clock!!

Have the best day you can, folks.

Good morning from s somerset, a dismal start to the day, dark skies, cool and rainy but good weather for the ground, which is bone dry and like a dust bowl

I did a quick allotment visit yesterday and pulled up all my desiccated and ruined cabbages. Cleared a few tomato plants from another bed and have prepped that bed for allium planting, which will happen in a few weeks. The squashes are hardening nicely

Maddison top 2 is now half finished, very quick to make and cosier than t shirts. Spiders are emerging in the house and disappearing beforeI can get the vac cleaner, I must collect conkers this year. There are at least two lurking in my bedroom

I made a meat order, not a lot because it is grass fed organic and very expensive. It could last a year as I always make it stretch and that will be delivered next week. Today I am going to make a batch of ready meals for the freezer, mild curries

No other work for me, just a bit of the daily pottering and knitting. I have to do a lot of driving tomorrow and need the rest today

Bellasnana Tue 08-Sept-26 05:42:14

Good morning from Malta where it is still dark but a sunny day is promised with a high of 36°C.

Thoroughly enjoyed having the boys all day yesterday, they really are such sweet little chaps, always on the go but full of enthusiasm and such good company.

At around 3pm DGS1 brought a pillow which he plonked on me then climbed on my knee and went to sleep. I was pinned under him for an hour and a half but I didn’t mind as I love how he felt safe and loved enough to sleep on me., plus I could watch those precious little faces for ages.

His brother also gave in and had a nap next to us on the sofa so I was able to have 40 winks as well!

I miss them. The house is so quiet without them but I am having them several times this week and next so will look forward to it.

It is a public holiday here today, Victory Day ( victory of the Knights of St. John against the Turks in 1565). It is also our village festa dedicated to the Nativity of Our Lady.

I have some ironing to do but not much else. A nap will be necessary as I shall be getting up at silly o’clock tomorrow to watch Alcaraz v Shelton.

Wishing you all a good day.☀️

Good morning from dark and breezy South Lanarkshire.

Made a start on my crocheted Christmas angels last night, it’s a pleasant way to pass the time while listening to an audiobook or a radio programme, our yarn group will produce hundreds of them over the next three months ready for our annual give away.

Charity shop today, I’m hoping that the dust has settled after recent events and we can all enjoy working together again.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

Good morning all from North Leicestershire where it is also very dark.

Up early as we have to collect Wolfie again. He is still not well enough to go to school. He was a very chatty boy yesterday and both dh and I were wiped out by the time he left.

Have the best day possible everyone.

RosesandLilac Tue 08-Sept-26 06:23:43

Good morning, it’s wet, dark and chilly here in south Glos.
I’ve been awake since 3, goodness knows why, dozed a bit and then gave up and tidied my bedside table 🙄
I went into town early yesterday, intending to have a coffee before paying a cheque into the building society. I went to draw out some money and discovered that you can pay in cheques via the ATM, so that’s what I did! No need to hang around waiting for them to open so instead of getting a coffee I did a quick bit of grocery shopping and came home.
I had lots of blood taken late morning (10 vials!), apparently it seems that I might have Lupus? Hence the telephone consultation with a haematologist on Friday.
A quiet afternoon, I was tired after wandering around town. I did take a bowl of ratatouille to a friend along the road who was very touched.
Absolutely nothing planned for today, tidying and usual chores. There’s chicken Biryani for dinner, quick and easy.
Wishing you a peaceful day x

Good morning from a very wet Torbay after rain fell all night and continues to do so.

Luckily, Props has been cancelled so I have an indoor day today with various domestic jobs planned. Before that, my DD2 will be ringing me (hands free) as she drives to school. They have had rather a shaky start to the new term with her DH and her DS having (what she thinks was) Covid.

Wishing a better day to all who are unwell, especially those in pain. 🦩💐🦩🥰🦩

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 11° and rain is likely. Bellasnana sleeping boys sound just lovely.
Yesterday was quieter then expected. Once I'd dropped off dgs1 at football, I asked dgs2 if he wanted to go to soft play but he didnt. So back to grandma's house. He played quite happily and pulled out the felt pens to draw. Then all went quiet. I eventually headed to the kitchen to see what he was up to and found blue felt pen adoring my kitchen door handle and on my (white) kitchen door! It won't come off easily and I will have to try some strong stuff.
In the afternoon I had a very upset stomach. The doctor had warned me that it was a symptom of gallbladder trouble, so I was ok but it wiped me out. The clinic phoned to say I needed a full arm full of blood taken as I was overdue a diabetic review. We picked up dgs1 who was horrified at his brother's art work. They were both good then I dropped off dgs1 at his football training and dd picked up dgs2 and I went home. I was tired and early to bed then woke and couldn't easily fall over, so I was up drinking tea at 2 am.
Today I will get the boys and bring them back to my house for breakfast before taking them to school. Then home for a nap, I think. I will pick them up later and they'll come back to me for an hour before home. A lot of driving about these two days. Have a good day all.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 08-Sept-26 06:58:29

Good morning from a grey S E Essex, we have 100% chance of rain all day according to the weather app ☔️☔️☔️

The nearly 17 yr old (DGS2) starts sixth form college today, he has chosen the one near us. It is a difficult journey from where he lives involving multiple buses, or two buses and a train. The plan is when we are back from this little holiday he will stay with us one night a week. Which means that three nights a week we will have various GS’s staying here…

Cleaning fairies are here first thing, I will go to the gym for Pilates, then I need to start packing.

Wishing all the poorly morning friends well 🙋‍♀️

Good morning from Haverfordwest
Goodness it rained in the night but today is going to be dry with sunny spells. We are cycling today on the Brunel Line. A disused railway line. It should be flat and also no cars. I don’t like cycling on roads. The edges of roads are full of holes and drains etc and when a car passes and I have to get in to the edge, it’s stressful.
Our Gousto box was delivered here successfully. We rarely go out for food, this suits us fine.
Take care everyone flowers

Good morning from a lovely rainy Cornwall where I'm dicing with who knows what in posting again after endless problems with Gransnet and my phone. I've asked the powers-that-be to assure me that the site is secure.

Anyway, that aside, I've had lots of jaunts to lots of places on buses and the usual coffees in various cafes. Yesterday I discovered a weekly sewing group, something I've been wanting for ages. They were so welcoming and when they asked what I did sewing-wise and I explained that I remake clothes and also have a vast collection of denim pockets they didn't bat an eyelid so I know I'll fit in.

A friend has offered me her unused overlocker machine which I'm in awe of as I was about to spend £200 on buying one.

Today I have a fast-tracked hospital appointment to investigate a swelling in my neck for cancer. However the accompanying letter tells me that 98% of investigations prove to be benign. Oh good. wink

Found this photo on my phone of me cuddling a polar bear last year. Why not? grin

madeleine45 Tue 08-Sept-26 07:27:44

Good morning Michael and all GN's on a damp still morning in North Yorkshire, I am already up and dressed, as I have an early dentists appointment . This week has been absolutely nothing like normal, and it continues! I had been to the dentists, because I knew it was well over 6 months, since the last visit but couldnt remember the actual date. It turned out that I was well overdue, and so today was booked.

Well it is difficult enough, but the dentist I knew and trusted has left, so starting with a new person means added stress anyway, However I awarded myself a goldstar for making an appointment and knew there is a feeling of something a bit odd , which needs to be checked out. But now of course, with all the happenings of this last week, I will get to see her, but she will not be doing anything today. I cannot risk having anything unnecessary done, as I am still battling with the cellulitis etc.

Well, another day that did not go according to plan yesterday. However, at least the brain is in gear, and I of course see so many jobs not done and wondering how I didnt notice this and that before! Physically not good for most of the day, with my leg, and back, were constantly nagging at me, but mentally thank god, I was at last in charge. So I actually did manage to get a few things done.

I left early, expecting to be back to read more posts and catch up, but the day developed in a different way. One of the main things I had to do was to get fuel for the car, and as it was getting right down, and I do not totally trust the gauge which sometimes shows a quarter and then rapidly drops to zero, I decided that I would kill two birds with one stone and go to Thirsk , where the Tesco garage are very helpful to me and I show my blue badge and give a little tap on the horn and they come out to me. Standing still putting fuel in is always painful at the best of times, and I wasnt wanting to do it myself. So once the lady had come out and started filling it up, I slowly hobbled to the shop bit to pay, and was so slow I was only just entering the door when she arrived back from filling it . Oh cringe the cost had gone up to 160p a litre and I can see that I shall be checking on the bus pass and only venturing down the town on the yellow peril!

Well I was pleased to feel that the car was a bit more ready for action and have got the picnic box into autumn mode, and checked that my bright yellow jacket is at the ready inside the car for the darker days. There was some shopping I could have done, but suddenly remembered that I had said I would go to a meeting that afternoon and decided that I needed to take things steady ( I do take note of your comments ) and decided that I would instead go and buy my bread and then descend upon Cafe Nero, where I would have a much needed coffee and a rest in a chair that didnt hurt my back so much.

Had forgotten it was market day, and had quite a struggle to get parked anywhere near Neros, but had to just hang around, until there was a space, not a cat in hells chance of walking over the cobbles and uneven pavement in the state I was in, but ah at last, I arrived with bone china mug at the ready.

The staff who know me quite well, had seen me hobbling in and called to me to choose a seat and they would come over to me. What bliss!, I found a chair that was comfortable for me, carefully lowered myself into it, and by the time I was sat down , the kind staff were at my side and took my mug and I decided to have a treat so ordered , of course, my favourite apricot croissant, to be warmed and the coffee to come with it. Ah what bliss , to sit in relative comfort and anticipate my treat.

A lovely friendly little dog was watching my every movement whilst eating the croissant, her tail wagging and that way they have of sitting but sort of fidgeting at the same time, and looking in hopes of a treat. She kept shuffling towards me and the gentleman who she belonged to , told her off and went to pull her away, but I said she was very well behaved and no bother.

We got talking , first of the price of the fuel at the moment, and then onto various other things, finding we had quite a lot in common, as he was also a teacher and a linguist, and had lived out in some of the places I had been. It was rather nice to chat to someone who knew areas I had been in and as he was younger than me , he had been there later than I had, and so I quite enjoyed hearing of the changes that had happened and he seemed quite eager to hear of various dictators, who had been around when I was abroad.

Well , he eventually went, saying he would look out for me again in Neros and that he had enjoyed our talk, as there were few people who he could talk to about such things. I also enjoyed the meeting and felt much refreshed by the whole encounter, but due to that I decided not to go to the meeting . I hadnt committed myself ,it was just something I thought of doing, but now was feeling that having as much rest as I could and allowing myself to just stop was more important.

I find that when situations arise unexpectedly I can deal with whatever I have to - well no choice really - but I hate that being out of control situation, where you cannot plan in advance and are not actually the person who is in charge of what happens next. That makes me tense up and spend ages thinking if this then that , and what about the other? This all goes on inside my head , but outwardly I appear to be dealing with things ok. But whilst I can tell myself that it is ok now to relax, my body takes its own time to relax. I have never found any way of forcing things, just have to wait for it to improve by themselves.

Meandering my way home I decided to nip into my local smaller tesco for a few necessary bits whilst I was out. Actually for once, I was able to get several things that had been out of stock, and had to buy an extra bag as I only had one with me. Then I went home, and couldnt park close to the flat, so just got the frozen bits and one or two important things and left the rest to get out this morning. Then I did very little, just made the most of some king prawns I had bought in the bargain box and got some sticky rice done and had a very simple prawn feast with just soy sauce, not all the usual concoction I tend to make. So was quite happy to be a slob and listen to radio three and then watch vigil, surrounded by shopping and mess waiting to be attended to, but which I calmly ignored and went off to bed, only suddenly remembering that it was the bin men today, and so had to get out, stick dressing gown on and collect up all the rubbish and go out and stick it in the shed.

So have heard my beloved Bach and the sky is lightening up and a very slight breeze now, but there is definitely that sense of it being an autumn morning today. My son is 51 today, sent him a happy birthday email as I dont know where he is at the moment, but will hopefully speak to him this evening. He started his new job yesterday, so fingers crossed that it all went well and he will settle in there well. Ah we never change do we? Our children are always our children to us, no matter what they do or where they go, we can still worry about them, hoping they are eating well, getting enough sleep etc etc!

Well ladies and gentlemen, I am starting to feel rather anxious, despite knowing she wont be doing anything today, and so need to gather my bags and bits, so that I can go on to do various necessary things afterwards. I cant concentrate until I have this out of the way, so mundane jobs are quite good for now, and will get the washing up done and the bed made so that hopefully I shall return to a better looking flat and then I shall be going back to read all the missed bits of news from you all and then I need to concentrate on doing some paperwork and finding documents , which hopefully I shall be in a better frame of mind to do later.

Wishing you all a good start to your day, and may we all have an improving day. At least I feel in a better state of mind, and whilst my leg isnt doing much better it is no worse ,so at least I am only stationary, not going backwards. I am going to be more positive and book my rail trip in advance to get a cheaper fare. I could have done it a week ago, but with all the things happening I didnt feel sure that it was worth it, so I must be feeling more positive now. Onward and upward as they say. Have a good day

Good morning all from a very wet Black country.
Today is my 73rd birthday we are going for a meal later, other than that nothing else planned saw the family Sunday.
Hope FGT is feeling better and can begin to enjoy her time in Ibiza.
Have a nice day everyone whatever your plans 😎.

monk08 Tue 08-Sept-26 07:36:46

Good to see you back Marzipan.

Gagagran Tue 08-Sept-26 07:39:39

Good Morning everyone from a very wet, central south coast. It was raining hard at 3am and still is. I am delighted to see the rain, which we need desperately.

My plan to reduce the contents of the freezer continues and I am trying to make sure we do not end up throwing out food which should be eaten. The problem is we have very different dietary needs and DH is a hearty eater but I am not. I am managing by adding carbs to his meal, whilst I just have the protein element with salad or veg. I am not a potato or pasta fan but he is.

Love the photo of you and your giant bear, Marzipan! Good luck with the appointment and fingers crossed for a reassuring result.

Safe travels everyone and hope that all with struggles of any kind have an easier day.

WhiteSwan63 Tue 08-Sept-26 07:39:52

Good morning from a damp, dull and grey east coast.

Happy birthday Monk08 enjoy your day

I’ve had a bad night sleep so I’ve been pottering around since four. DH has had a bad night too so he’s in a bad mood. Oh dear🤦

My sister and brother in law are arriving from Kent today to stay a couple of nights. They are helping with uncles life celebration gathering tomorrow. I love it when my sister visits they are such great company. It will be good having them with us tomorrow.

We will go over and visit our little ladies later as they arrived home from their holiday at 4-am this morning. We have a card for DGD2 who’s starting school tomorrow. We have missed them so much.

DH is cooking avocado and eggs on toast so I’d best go and help.

Have a good day with moments of joy🌼

Redcar Tue 08-Sept-26 07:44:50

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. We have very welcome rain at last, not sure how long it will last. The rest of the week looks dry again.
I had an unsuccessful shopping trip into the nearest town yesterday morning but did take a few books to the charity book shop. I can only take a few at a time, so more visits will be needed.
I’ll go to the local garden centre this morning to get some bulbs, then see my dementia friend later. I sat with her yesterday afternoon as her DH had a doctors appointment.

Good to see you back marzipan I hope your hospital appointment is reassuring this afternoon. Good you’ve been able to find a sewing group that you can fit in with!

melanie I hope you have a safe and enjoyable cycle ride today.

Hoping that all those on holiday have a lovely time, that those who aren’t well feel better today and that all doctors and hospital appointments go well!

Have the best day you can everyone.

Gingster Tue 08-Sept-26 07:45:19

Good morning all and yes, we have rain. Lovely!

This morning the district nurse will come and take blood from Dh. He’s very overdue so we’ll see the outcome re diabetes. Honestly I’m thinking it’s a waste of time. He has a very sweet tooth and won’t cut down on anything. I’ve given up !
It’s his life and he lives it how he wants.

Later morning we have the accountant coming. Supposed to be yesterday but she was unwell. DS2 can’t make it today, so it will just be and her trying to fathom paperwork. 🤯. Oh well, that what we’re paying her for . 💷💷💷💷. Dh will be here but can’t shine a light on much, … and then suddenly he’ll remember something vital. Let’s hope.,🤞.

I hope to get to Bridge this afternoon as I haven’t been for a couple of weeks. I really enjoy it and it’s good for the brain to be thinking of something different.

My friend phoned me yesterday, her husband is away with his brothers and she went into the garden, tripped on a paving stone, and fell into their swimming pool, deep end. She isn’t a great swimmer and is quite overweight , fully clothed. She struggled to get out with bruised, probably cracked ribs. She could have knocked herself out.

She honestly could have died. All alone with no one around.
Things happen so quickly . You read about mysteries like this ‘woman found drowned in pool’ . Husband would be under suspicion or a burglary.
Thankfully all is well apart from bruising and cuts.

A lesson to us all, Take Care!

HelterSkelter1 Tue 08-Sept-26 07:46:34

Good morning from a drizzly N Surrey. Overcast and a bit grey. No matter. We need plenty of drizzle to soften the earth before we get rainstorms which most likely we will do going towards late autumn/winter.
Yesterday the washing machine was delivered and connected. Wonderful. I did several loads which dried quickly on the line.

Too wet today to do more, but tomorrow onwards I will crack on. I will feel better when the decks are clearer. I only ever have a single duvet on my bed until it gets really cold and it is so much easier and lighter to change its cover and quicker to launder.

A sad task today. I collect DHs ashes. They will stay here until DDs and I decide where they will be scattered. DHs sister is staying with me so I won't be alone. I think I will like having them in the house.

I slept well last night. In chunks as usual but more chunks than usual. Too cloudy to see the pretty new moon early this morning. Maybe tomorrow.

Finally our resident robin has returned to the garden. Where on earth do they go in the summer?

I haven't seen Marzipans posts for some time and I do enjoy reading about her vibrant town and bus trips. (Good luck with your tests Marzipan).
Likewise Madeleines descriptions of the dales.

I wish you all a good day.

Grandmabatty Tue 08-Sept-26 07:48:17

Happy birthday Monk08 have a lovely day. Marzipan good to see you posting. I missed you.
