Good morning from a clear, dawning Bristol. It would appear that the days are already getting shorter. Still no rain, none forecast.
I was given several lbs of rhubarb from the vicar’s allotment, so made several people very happy. What was left, I stewed with oranges and ginger for myself.
Today, I’m serving coffee. The church now looks very smart with its heating chandeliers and just heaters in the aisles.
My ankle is almost painless but still very swollen and starting to show some spectacular bruising. I’m being very kind to it, with cold packs and elevation.

Very little sleep again, I seem to be managing on less every week.
Yesterday the temperature was better for me, in fact I closed some small windows which have been open for weeks
I am pleased you are getting over your fall grandMattie it can really shake us up as we get older.
Gardeners come today but there is little for them to do apart from removing dead plants, the lawns haven’t grown at all.

How is it August already?😱. It reminds me of a soap opera I used to be hooked on which started with the words ‘Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of our Lives’. So true, and the older we get there is less sand in the top so it rushes faster!

grandMatiie is it wise to be serving coffee when your ankle is swollen? Please take care, you really ought to have it raised on a pillow and take things easy until it’s better.

I had my little Treasure number 2 on his own yesterday. He’s a different child when there’s nobody around but the two of us, I really enjoyed his company, he’s full of questions. He made some jelly for me although admonished me as it has sugar in it which his mother has taught him is the work of the devil!😂

I intend to do some cleaning today. I did my front steps (five of them down to the front door) which were filthy due to the dust blown about in the wind,

I also vacuumed through and also the fake turf out the back! I must look crazy but it’s like mowing the lawn!😅

First I shall get on my cross trainer. I’m doing better and got the resistance level up to 6 yesterday without it feeling too much.

Good morning from south Glos, another warm day ahead.
I’m having coffee with a friend this morning, we’ll sit outside under her old apple tree that’s festooned with mistletoe.
I had my hair trimmed yesterday, enjoyed a lovely chat with my hairdresser who always makes me laugh.
I bought fish and chips from the chippy for dinner (we eat at lunchtime), delicious as usual.
I need to give the living room a good tidy today, it’s a bit cluttered in places, then I will carry on with my sashiko, I’m loving it.
Hospital bag packing has begun, I need to fit everything into a bag no bigger than a supermarket bag for life (including adding the clothes that I’ll be wearing to hospital).
I have two pages of written instructions to re read to make sure I don’t forget anything or do something forbidden!
Plant watering shortly, hosepipe ban so I’m eking out what little I have in the water butt.

Morning all from West Oxfordshire - and white rabbits 🐰!

I didn’t get up to much yesterday. My cough and cold were still with me and I took the decision to cancel my trip to an outdoor theatre.

However, I will go and collect a dress from the seamstress and click and collect a parcel from Waitrose.

GM: I used to do a lot of patchwork 40 years ago, usually the hexagon variety. Usually all by hand. Now I am sewing squares on my sewing machine. Any quilting will be by hand - I us d to do it by machine. I am currently using up a lot of fabric I have had for years. I even found sone fabric leftover from when my mum made my daughter her first school dresses 40 years ago!

Another perfect fit honeycomb blind suddenly broke a string yesterday morning, thankfully only a small blind this time. I wonder if they are meant to do this, like replacing a light bulb used to be the option. I took it down and replaced the string before my day even started. No way am I spending on an expensive new blind

The road was blocked to where I live so I walked my shopping trolley full of bagged good clothing to the salvation army, I did that twice, I wanted to remove those clothes pdq in case I changed my mind

Second interlock t shirt is finished, machines and room cleaned. Kitchen cleaned and some dusting done

I am all ready for a free day today starting with extended cycling plus allotment this morning and some Marie Kondo this afternoon, when I am going to handle one wearable item at a time. I can see me also prepping and cutting out another toile, from my yarn -dyed patterned red linen remnant. Margo pinafore by Tammy Handmade, I have never made any of her patterns but she gets lovely reviews. I will make sure it is big enough to ensure it gets worn. Working on a new pattern and associated alterations stretches my brain and small motor skills. It is good for me and very enjoyable

Good morning from South Lanarkshire where it’s rather overcast.

I did a bit of dust removal yesterday before taking up my crochet which has been neglected over the summer. I felt the need to be doing something productive but calm so spent a peaceful few hours listening to my audiobook and getting on with the baby blanket, it’s almost finished now.

If I can summon the will there are kitchen cupboards calling out to be cleaned and tidied but I’m making no promises.

Good Morning everyone from the central south coast. It is cooler this morning but set to warm up again. We seem to be stuck in this pattern and still no sign of any rain. It is very like summer 1976.

I had my haircut yesterday and was happy to see the photos of my lovely hairdresser's new baby granddaughter. She was born by emergency c-section last weekend and is just beautiful. My Mum used to say that new babies bring love with them and this little one certainly has done just that.

DH and I, both wobbly on our feet, managed to do some deadheading in the garden before it got too hot. I am quite nervous as that is what I was doing, when I did my spectacular dive into the rose bushes, in June. Still suffering side effects.

DD and her soon to be husband are back in our area this weekend for a birthday party of one of their old village friends. We shall be seeing them at some point, possibly for breakfast tomorrow morning but I await confirmation from her. DH is going for a coffee and cake morning ride with his cycling club this morning and I have some admin to do.

Good morning everyone and happy White Rabbits Day from a bright and sunny Northampton; bit cooler again today.

Enjoyed my dance classes yesterday especially the ballet, and it was so good to be back again with good friends - I managed the three classes ok but needed a rest during tap class.

Had a light lunch when I got home and then sat out in the garden as it wasn't so hot. Noticed that my pergola is showing its age (30 yrs!) and some of the wood is rotting - might have to think about replacing it next year.

A visit to the shops this morning, including a detour to B&M and Matalan, then to M&S Food and Sainsbury's. Shall take my trolley just in case!

Nothing else planned for today except a steak dinner tonight.

We had a lovely evening yesterday making homemade pizzas and playing cards outside.
DD2, DGD1 and I are off to IKEA and Dunelm this morning to buy A what she needs for University in September. I think there will be compromise.

The roofers finished the repairs yesterday and the plumber fitted a new sink drain and presented me with the rotten one he replaced.
I saw the physio who says I am getting better and gave me more exercises but advised against resuming long walks. Just plenty of short ones.
Two friends came for supper. We had fresh herring in oatmeal - a rare treat.

Goodness, gMattie surely you shouldn't be standing serving coffee while your ankle is still swollen. Take a rest!

Don't worry too much about what to bring to hospital R&L just a few essentials - phone charger etc.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 11° and cloudy. Rosesandlilac I think I probably would be the same- keeping busy would suit me. GrandMattie don't overdo it. Gagagran I'm wobbly on my legs too! My balance is poor. Bellasnana a very busy day for you yesterday!
Yesterday dd picked me up and, after she dropped off dgs1, we headed for a local café. It was small but very friendly. I had a filled roll which I regretted later as I felt unwell back home. I laid down for a while and actually fell asleep. Then I ordered new clothes for the boys and new jackets for me. Afterwards I watched a series from BBC which my hairdresser recommended.
Today is housework day. The bed will be stripped, bathroom cleaned etc. All necessary but boring. I intend to go to aldi to stock up. My usual garden centre breakfast is cancelled because my friend is unwell. I might still go and buy shoes though. They have a good Pavers outlet. Have a good day all.

My sinusitis dizziness woke me in the night so I am hoping my new nasal spray works soon.

We have to go to the garden centre this morning and then DS2 is popping in before we go to a local theatre to watch a showcase put on by a theatre school run by our next door neighbou. We will meet DD3 and DGD3 there and go for a meal with them after at our local marina.

Yesterday it rained for precisely two minutes, it wasn't enough to wet the ground.
Today DS and both GDs are visiting, looking forward to hearing how they have spent their holiday, such busy lives.
Have missed GD2's piano playing, hopefully she will be in the music room this evening. She will be studying music at A level so no pressure.

Good morning from a bright W Kent where I shall be doing a quick dash to the supermarket. DB arrives later so house full up again. Amazed I can do any of this still but feeling really tired.
Yesterday we went with both DDs and SIL to our favourite garden and had lunch and a pleasant wander, I think this counts as taking the oldies out and we thoroughly enjoyed it all I am sure we will be back to real life soon

Yesterday I had an unplanned trip out with Dd and DGD . They messaged me and said they were going to Lake Meadows - would I like to join them. Initially I said no thanks as I was tired with a head full of things to think about., but then thought ‘why not’. We had a lovely few hours there. A beautiful place for walks around the lake, a park for DGD , cafe with nicely cooked food, finishing off with an ice cream overlooking the lake.

DGD is such an easy child to take out. No demands, just gets on and finds enjoyment in everything.

Today is a day of rest 🤞. I’ll walk little pooch and get the paper and then relax and read. That’s the plan anyway.

Good morning Michael and all GNs from a cool, bright South Yorkshire.

Yesterday I tackled the inside windows which is a fairly easy job. The window cleaner cleans the outsides but there are two of the bedroom ones that he can’t clean, even with an extension pole, as they can’t be reached, so they require me to climb onto the inside windowsill and do contortions to get my arm through small gaps! I’m getting too old for it - I need to train an apprentice! When we lived in Holland, we had a house with windows that opened inwards - very sensible people, the Dutch!

I went out in the afternoon and bought bird food, and a jam funnel as I am now up to my knees in plums and must set too and make jam this weekend. It was very good last year as I managed to get the set right. That hasn’t always happened!

Today I will prune my lavender and deadhead the buddleia. Nothing much else on the cards except for a small grocery shop first thing.

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. Blue sky, a few fluffy white clouds and sunshine again. It feels a little cooler this morning but another warm day is forecast.
I did some admin yesterday, made some decisions about what to keep of my godmother’s stuff, fortunately she wasn’t one to keep a lot of photos etc so the decisions were fairly easy to make.
I’ll take out the dwarf bean plants today, they’ve been quite productive but are definitely finished now.

August already, it’s definitely getting dark earlier in the evenings, I don’t notice it as much in the mornings.

Good morning Mick and everyone from bright Carlisle.

Yesterday I went into town to collect my prescription and a parcel from M&S. I'd brought a large bag of books with me, however, when I got to the Oxfam book shop 40 minutes after it was supposed to be open, it was still closed and I thought likely to remain that way. So it was back home with them, will try at a later date.
On my way back to the car I pulled a calf muscle going down some steps. Why I can't imagine, just being careful as usual. Once home I opened my french windows and stepped over the sill causing another very painful wrench to the muscle which made me squeal out loud! I hobbled about the rest of the day and spent the time reading mostly.

Today the muscle has improved but I'm not chancing a walk to get my paper. As I won't drive to somewhere I can walk to, I'm going to the garden centre for coffee and who knows what plus a visit to the nearby food hall for local meat and some fruit. Then I'll see what the rest of the day brings. I do hate sitting about when I could be doing things, preferably outside so I hope this leg sorts itself out quickly.

I can hardly believe it's August already, it's supposed to be one of the rainier months, let's hope it is.
