Odd - weird and wonderful - almost unbelievable - or is it just me?

There seems to be some very odd threads here right now - those I can hardly follow they are so convoluted. Some that are so bizarre they seem quite unbelievable.

Almost every thread that discusses a mere mundane activity like shopping or watching TV seem to have far more of the "Oh I don't do that/watch that and I never would" type comments. What the **? Why comment at all? What value are these people adding to the thread?

And there should be a warning sign that pops up before you comment RTT (Read the thread)! People asking questions that have already been answered - suggesting things that have already been discussed or making suggestions when the poster has clearly dealt with whatever issue was troubling them.

And yes, I probably am having a grumpy Granny day grin but there seems to be a surplus of the odd ones right now.

It's probably the heat...

And some people wish to try to be superior to others, I have realised.

I have just read a thread which was very bizarre. I have seen posts in the past where the original poster is accused of being a troll, though I never guessed that. This one seems too far fetched to be possible (though I could be wrong).

I think GNHQ have now commented on that thread 🦋

It's the school holidays.

I had to go and find it.

Yes, glad.

There have been too many posters lately, trying to police threads.
Glad LilyGransnet wrote what she did.

It's the school holidays.

It is.
But there are also threads which are started which are genuine it seems.

Gransnet innit?
It was ever thus!

And those not to everyone's cup of tea.
But so what?
Move on, or whatever GN wrote.

There are people who enjoy discussion, and a deeper conversation; who are used to reading and listening attentively, teasing out information, comparing facts, focussed thinking. Who can remember the details provided by the OP, decipher scrambled grammar, etc, take a little trouble because because they are actually interested in the topic, or other people and what makes them tick.

There are other people who clearly don't really connect with others. A simple sentence is all they seek and they are really only talking to themselves, familiar, reassuring, undemanding. My favourite colour is blue. My first holiday was in Slough. Today I got up, caught the bus, saw some people; usual coffee, weather fine. Or, they ask pointless questions to elicit a response. What is your favourite TV program?

Social media draws lonely isolated people with mental illness who struggle in real life, and online, with their confusion and resentment.

In a group of mature to elderly people, like GN, inevitably some are displaying age-related mental decline.

Definitely a few of those lately.

You ask what value are these people adding to the thread
I would hazard a different point of view.
Where’s the interest when everyone is agreeing 🤷‍♀️
I do appreciate that a lot of members feel safe in what I call the price of eggs in Tesco threads.

Ferry23 😁 I know what you mean and add to that a lot of kvetching about insignificant things….ah well wine L’chaim!
It’s forums innit?
Family dinnertime now so wish you a good night😃

Does anyone else start typing and then decide they have nothing interesting to add, so they scrub it?

I do this quite a lot, or I post something then think it sounds stupid and I wish I hadn’t bothered.

Most threads are genuine, I think. The odd one, though. . .

Agree with the RTT suggestion. There is a current thread where the poster is still receiving replies to wording in her OP which she subsequently accepted as fair comment and changed the word. Posters are still continuing to disagree with her because they have not read her later post! I am not saying they shouldn’t have disagreed with her but once she had corrected herself that should have been it. RTT.

Must be feeling grumpy also tonight as I rarely comment on thus type of post. 🫣
