Sometimes old threads are so out of date they become irrelevant.

There seems to be some very odd threads here right now - those I can hardly follow they are so convoluted. Some that are so bizarre they seem quite unbelievable.
Almost every thread that discusses a mere mundane activity like shopping or watching TV seem to have far more of the "Oh I don't do that/watch that and I never would" type comments. What the **? Why comment at all? What value are these people adding to the thread?
And there should be a warning sign that pops up before you comment RTT (Read the thread)! People asking questions that have already been answered - suggesting things that have already been discussed or making suggestions when the poster has clearly dealt with whatever issue was troubling them.
And yes, I probably am having a grumpy Granny day
but there seems to be a surplus of the odd ones right now.

And threads that started years before and for some reason someone has posted and resurrected it so it appears on trending. You post without realising it’s two years out of date until some savvy gnetter points it out. Why is this allowed to happen?
I don’t think it really matters how old the thread is if people still find the subject interesting..
I don’t really agree as many are very out of date with possibly the original poster moved, no longer on GN, or heavens above may no longer be with us.
One recently was about a young grandson it was so old the grandson was probably out at work or married by now much better to start a new one about the same subject if needed
The same advice may not even be relevant ten years on

There’s nowt as strange as folk.
Very true. And not just on this site but generally in life I have found that people are all a bit odd including me and mine.

I agree with that, Shinamae, some old threads can be interesting. Very often, it seems, they are revived by a troll, someone reports it, and because the thread is near the top of the list, other people start posting.

Does anyone else start typing and then decide they have nothing interesting to add, so they scrub it?
I do this quite a lot, or I post something then think it sounds stupid and I wish I hadn’t bothered.
My version is everyone is strange to everyone else.

Is it - dying I mean?
Shouldnt think so. Several new names in the last 2 months.

I hope it isn’t dying I only joined relatively recently. Perhaps my contributions were the nail in the coffin🤣
Tbh I am a pretty good ‘closer’ inasmuch as on a fair few threads I am the last poster then it drops rapidly down the ranks before disappearing.
Perhaps this will also be the last post 🫣

I agree David and best left alone I will not be replying further, than I did as I was reported for what I considered a helpful post 🤷🏼♀️
There is currently one thread that is unbelievable it's not malicious and I'm not going to comment because it seems to be from a highly disturbed lady seeking attention.

Yes, regularly.
GN reflects society. Some people in every age are kind, helpful, informative, positive, funny, witty, èmpathetic, but some are mean, silly, arrogant, weird, unhelpful, negative, self centered, martyrs and sometimes downright bonkers.
But GN is a bit/very addictive..I am trying to ration myself!
JanesandJon yes I often find that happens to me too 😂
and I think ‘well I said that half a page ago’ but the truth is a lot and I mean a lot of people, do only read the original post, they then whizz down to answer it, without even skim reading the previous answers. I do always try and skim through the answers stopping at the interesting ones to read more thoroughly.
But in answer to the original post I do think we have some extra strange ones at the moment, and definitely not kids
Romola yes very often. Sometimes I make what I think is a valid point, only to be ignored. Then some’queen bee’ makes the same point further down thread and everyone rushes to applaud her. I often think of leaving also.

Agree with the RTT suggestion. There is a current thread where the poster is still receiving replies to wording in her OP which she subsequently accepted as fair comment and changed the word. Posters are still continuing to disagree with her because they have not read her later post! I am not saying they shouldn’t have disagreed with her but once she had corrected herself that should have been it. RTT.
Must be feeling grumpy also tonight as I rarely comment on thus type of post. 🫣
